Chapter 95: Chapter 91, Withered Tree_1
"How about it? Ge Xing, have you thought it over? Why not join us? We can deal with the river monsters together." Lu Te’s face was full of a triumphant smile.
The Orcs all knew how terrifying the river monsters could be. Every tribe attending the tribe gathering would bring a dozen or so elderly or disabled Orcs to lure the monsters away in the river.
The young female who just spoke said there was no safe way across the Eneru River. If they did not cooperate with the Tumang Tribe...
Looking over the crowd of the Watson Tribe, they had only brought three elderly Orcs. Even if they made it across, they couldn’t get back.
"Enough of your barking! Even if we don’t participate in this tribal gathering, we won’t be joining you. Off you go!" Ge Xing waved dismissively. Although his face remained stern, he finally gave up the idea of cooperating with these hyenas.
"You... fine, if you’re not going with us, then I’ll look forward to seeing more of your tribesmen fall prey to the monsters, hahaha! Let’s go!" Being angered by Ge Xing’s words, Lu Te gave up on trying to convince the Watson Tribe and led his Tumang Tribe away without any further resting.
They headed straight for the riverside. The Eneru River was not far, just about a five-minute walk. Ji Nuan and the rest of the Watson Tribe stood by the river, watching the Orcs of the Tumang Tribe slowly enter the river.
The river was deep. The Orcs of the Tumang Tribe used their natural abilities to swim forward as fast as they could. Among them were quite a few who had participated in several tribe gatherings before. They knew well how dangerous the monsters in the Eneru River could be and, tensing, they moved their limbs with quick strokes aiming for the other side of the river.
However, the river’s indigenous residents obviously had no intention of letting this delivered meal pass by.
There were bursts of conversation among the Tumang Tribe’s crowd.
"Why are there so many dead trees in the river?"
"I don’t know, it’s weird. They’re floating towards us."
"They must have been swept downstream. Ignore them; let’s get to the river bank quickly."
Ji Nuan’s eyes widened as she looked at the "deadwood" that was collecting from all directions on the river. Knowing what they really were, she wouldn’t believe for a minute that they were just deadwood.
They were crocodiles!
From the size and width of the parts exposed above water, one could imagine how huge these crocodiles were. Even if the Orcs in the tribe transformed into massive beasts, they would probably still be insufficient for the crocodiles’ dinner.
"The monsters are coming..." Ji Nuan murmured.
Xiu Yan and Ge Xing looked at her, "How do you know?"
Ji Nuan’s face turned pale as she pointed to the "deadwood" on the river’s surface moving towards the Orocs from the Tumang Tribe, "That’s what they are. They aren’t deadwood swept downstream. Those are the monsters. They’re just showing a small portion above water. Can’t you see them moving towards the Orcs?"
Upon hearing Ji Nuan’s words, Ge Xing and Xiu Yan were startled and looked quickly towards the river.
Sure enough, upon closer inspection, they were no deadwoods. From a higher perspective, one could vaguely see the bodies moving under the water.
Ge Xing hesitated for a moment and then shouted across the river, "Swim faster! The deadwood on the water’s surface are the monsters. You are surrounded."
The Orcs of the Tumang Tribe were stunned at first. Then, under the leadership of Lu Te, they started laughing loudly.
One of the Orcs on the edge touched the rough deadwood next to him, and laughed at Ge Xing, "Chief Ge Xing, you’re saying this is a monster? Have you ever seen such an obedient monster that doesn’t eat Orc... Ahhh!!!"
Before he could finish his sentence, the ’obedient’ deadwood that he was just stroking abruptly sprang up from the water. The creature opened its massive jaws, longer than an Orc’s arm, baring its sharp teeth that glittered coldly in the sunlight, to the astonished eyes of the onlookers.
Without any hesitation, it grabbed the Orc—who was just bragging—in its mouth and disappeared into the river. The Orc didn’t even have time to scream before being dragged down. Only large patches of reddish water spread over the river’s surface, being swept downstream.
At the same time, the other "deadwoods" floating nearby attacked the Orcs of the Tumang Tribe.
For a moment, the river was filled with screams. The originally limpid river was instantly dyed a bloody red, and a strong smell of blood spread.
"Hurry, swim faster!" Lu Te, hiding in the middle of the Orcs, was shouting hoarsely, completely ignoring the tribesmen being bitten by the crocodiles and swimming desperately towards the other side of the river.
As a member of the Snakeman Clan, Ya Li had a natural advantage. He had already reached the other side of the river. Previously, he was leisurely waiting for his tribesmen to cross, but now he was also disgruntled on the riverbank, ready to rescue the swimming tribesmen at any time.
"These... these are really... they are really the monsters." Swallowing hard, Ge Xing found his throat dry. Oh dear, this was truly terrifying!
Although he had participated in many tribe gatherings, he had only encountered these monsters twice. But this was the first time he had watched these monsters attack from the riverbank.
Their teeth were simply unbelievable. They bit into the Orcs so crisply!
