Chapter 245: Chapter 244, Argument_1
Shi Jie and Teng Kui exchanged glances, uttering a bitter laugh. What else could they do in such a situation, where even survival was a challenge?
"The Clan Leader, Ying Da, is back!" A cry from an orc outside the cave spread across, raising orc’s heads, Shi Jie called out to the outside: "Let him come in directly."
Ying Da was the only Eagle Orc in the Dashi Tribe, responsible for daily reconnaissance tasks, and monitoring the progression of the Beast Tide.
The somewhat skinny orc entered the cave, greeted the four clan leaders, and reported: "There’s no sign of the Beast Tide retreating yet. As for the surrounding minor tribes, I think they’re probably wiped out at this point, because I’ve noticed that the Beast Tide downstream has started to gather towards us."
This was essentially a devastating revelation. The faces of the four clan leaders turned dark instantly: "They’re all coming towards us?"
Ying Da nodded, "Yes, the Beast Groups dispersed across the forest and the plains are all starting to mass here."
Sangguo’s eyes instantly turned red: "So what do we do now? Are we really going to die in the jaws of these damn beasts?"
Just then, Dashi, looking weary, raised his face towards Ying Da and said, "You go eat something first, and rest. Then go check the plains to see if there are any tribes left."
Teng Kui turned to him, "Are you referring to the tribe that migrated from upstream?"
Dashi nodded.
Shi Jie glanced at him: "We can’t even ensure our survival right now, and you’re worrying about other tribes!"
Dashi frowned: "I know the Clan Leader of the Watson Tribe, Ge Xing. We’re just sending Ying Da to check on them, that’s all. I didn’t imply doing anything else. Why are you so upset?"
Shi Jie’s face grew red: "Ying Da is part of our Dashi Tribe. If something happens to him on this trip, are you going to be responsible?"
Dashi’s face cooled: "I know you’re upset given the circumstances, but I won’t argue with you. I just hope you calm down. If you don’t want Ying Da to go, I won’t persist."
With that, he said nothing more, turned, and left the cave.
Sangguo and Teng kui exchanged a glance, and Sangguo got up to follow Dashi out of the cave.
Teng Kui patted Shi Jie’s flushed face on the shoulder: "We are all worried and scared, but we need to stay calm. As the tribal chiefs, a lot of people are looking up to us. In this circumstance, only when the four tribes unite can we potentially survive this disaster!"
Shi Jie’s chest rose and fell a few times before he finally sighed, a bitter expression on his face: "When will this Beast Tide ever end!"
He then turned to Ying Da: "Just rest. Tomorrow at noon, when all the Beasts have entered the forest, head to the plains and have a look. Be very careful. You’re our only Eagle Orc."
Ying Da, noting all the chiefs’ strife but unwavering resolve, was moved by their tenacity. He responded: "I understand, don’t worry."
Shi Jie forced a smile: "Alright, off you go."
Ying Da nodded and then left the cave.
Teng Kui patted Shi Jie on the shoulder again: "Come on, let’s go eat something. Only with a full stomach, we can fight those damn beasts! As long as we hold on until they retreat, our tribe will survive and continue the legacy."
