Chapter 150: Chapter 151, City Wall_1
The atmosphere in Chief Ge Xing’s house was somewhat heavy. The ferocious beast that Xiu Yan had killed today had appeared in the tribe at the start of winter. This indicated a severe shortage of food deep in the Eneru River mountains, forcing the beasts to forage prematurely.
"The appearance of ferocious beasts so early, I wonder if there’ll be a large-scale beast tide," Chief Ge Xing sighed softly.
Aunt Shaman pondered, "As the weather becomes colder, prey animals will stay hidden, forcing ferocious beasts to attack the tribe. It seems we need to strengthen our patrols and defenses."
Ji Nuan thought for a while and then looked at the beasts in the room, "We still have a lot of clay bricks left from building the houses. We can use them to build a brick wall for defense."
All eyes brightened at the idea, "This is a good idea. This way, we won’t have to fear that ferocious beasts will randomly break into the tribe and injure anyone."
Xiu Yan lifted his profound wolf-eye gaze to the others, "The leftover clay bricks in the tribe are limited. If we used them all to build the wall, we wouldn’t be able to build very high.
We should use the clay bricks to construct the side walls higher, and fill the middle with soil and rocks."
Looking at the stern-faced orc, Ji Nuan was somewhat surprised. Amazing, my chubby cub. It turns out you don’t just think about delicious food.
She nodded in agreement, "I agree with Brother Xiu Yan’s proposal. This way, our orcs could stand on the constructed wall to patrol, allowing us to see farther."
Xiu Yan’s suggestion was unanimously adopted by the orcs.
For the safety of the tribal people, the orcs put on a piece of beast skin to start work despite the bitter cold. The female and elderly orcs were responsible for making sticky grass water and preparing food inside the houses.
The orcs collaborated and divided the work. Some were building the wall, others were moving sand and rocks.
Viewed from above, the Watson tribe looked like an inverted U character. To facilitate the tribespeople’s cave dwelling, the surrounding area was all smooth cliffs. Their ancestors had gone through great difficulties to secure this territory.
The cliffs made the construction of the city wall easier. only one wall was needed to block the open mouth.
The beast tide was like a boulder hanging over their heads, threatening the lives of the orcs. Whether strong or weak, male or female, everyone actively contributed their strength, and no one was slacking off.
After five days, the outline of the tribe’s city wall was finally completed. The wall, as tall as four orcs, stood like a hibernating beast, guarding the Watson tribe.
Below the city wall, there was space left for a city gate, a door made of the Black Rock wood that Xiu Yan and some of the strongest orcs had risked the snowstorm to bring back from the forest. Six pieces of Black Rock wood wedged the tribe’s gate securely.
Due to the material constraints, the gate of the Watson tribe’s city wall was designed as a drawbridge. It was lowered when going out and for the rest of the time, it remained raised, blocking out the risks from outside.
Inside the city wall near the tribe, steps led to the top of the wall.
The orcs were pouring sand and rocks mixed with sticky grass water inside, gradually filling up the wall.
"Uncle Ge Xing, let’s build a small room here so the orcs can rest and eat here during their shifts. It’s too cold outside," Ji Nuan’s idea came from different TV shows she’d seen before.
Where could Uncle Ge Xing disagree? He immediately nodded, "We’ve run out of clay bricks. Let the orcs bake some at home in the next few days. If each home makes a few, we’ll have enough."
