Chapter 13: Chapter 13, Punishing Manli_1 Ji Nuan was loaded with memories of Shan Zaizai, her heart was still stricken with fear when images of the cold season emerged in her mind. The chill season was incredibly tough. Food, cold, illness, and beasts, every cold season brought death to pups, females, and even Orcs. Grandma Shaman waved her hand, quieting the excited howls of the Orcs. "Alright, since we know that a Giggle Beast can be eaten, I will decree to award Shan Zaizai with a whole Humming Beast when the chill season comes, as a reward." The discovery of a new source of food was a massive contribution to the tribe. The eyes of the crowd were filled with gratitude and respect for Ji Nuan. "I disagree! Why should she get a whole Humming Beast? Shan Zaizai is just a beast!" Manli screamed in protest, the jealousy turning her eyes red. How unfair it was. In her heart, a fire seemed to ignite, making her feel unbelievably upset. Why should a female who is incapable of bearing offspring enjoy the tribe’s food? It was already merciful enough that the tribe hadn’t expelled her. Now her food was to be given to Shan Zaizai. A whole Humming Beast that was enough for her to eat for five to six days! She raised her giant hand, pointing at the quietly minding Ji Nuan: "Grandma Shaman, even though Shan Zaizai discovered this food, she is a barter female who can’t bear offspring. Shouldn’t her contributions to the tribe be expected? Why should food be shared with her?" Such a weak, ugly, and useless female shouldn’t waste the tribe’s food. The Shaman turned to look at Manli, who was quivering with jealously. "What contributions have you, as a female, made to the tribe? Have you gathered food? Have you cleaned Beast Skins? Have you birthed pups? Have you discovered new food sources?" The shaman’s words were as heavy as multiple slaps, hitting Manli’s face one after another. The glances the other females threw at Manli were full of contempt and disdain. Though females were weak, they still gathered food, cleaned Beast Skins, assisted in taking care of the tribe’s pups, and did everything within their capacity. However, Manli was famously lazy in the tribe. She spent her days lounging in her cave, waiting for her male companions to bring back roast meat. She never participated in tasks with other females. Grandma Shaman leaned on her staff. "Manli wastes the food gifted by the Beast God. Take her to the Penalty Cave. Don’t provide her with food." After Grandma Shaman finished speaking, she patted Ji Nuan’s messy head, and was subsequently supported and escorted back by Uncle Bo. Manli had screamed and cursed at Ji Nuan in vain. She was led away by several gigantic Orcs, with her male companions following closely. Ji Nuan ran her hand through the soft fur of Little Silver Wolf, suppressing a smile. "Served her right! Humph." She was no pushover. She had received a tirade of insults without striking back. How nice everyone would be if things continued like this! Ji Nuan picked up a cuddly Little Silver Wolf, removed a black clump from her basket with caution, and gently placed her squishy little friend on the ground. "Aunt Ge Rou, can you help me get a stone knife? I’ll teach you how to eat the Giggle Beast." This time, Ge Rou didn’t hesitate at all. She soon returned from the cave with a stone knife as large as an Orc palm. Accepting the stone knife, Ji Nuan used the blunt side to knock away the layer of clay that encased the rooster. She then peeled off the large leaves on the inside, and a tender, succulent Giggle Beast was revealed to all the beasts. The delicious aroma penetrated the senses of every beast present, incredibly tantalizing. Looking at Little Silver Wolf, who was jiggling his plump little butt in anticipation and circling restlessly, calling out in his baby-like voice, Ji Nuan’s eyes filled with amusement. She laid out the large leaves on the ground, tugged a fragrant leg from the Giggle Beast, and nudged it toward the cub. The cub’s shiny, small, black eyes lit up. He howled at Ji Nuan a couple of times before lowering his head to devour his meal. As he wolfed down the Giggle Beast leg in his mouth, his eyes remained fixed on the Giggle Beast not far away. His protective stance over his food was extremely amusing.
