Chapter 240: Chapter 239, Food is a Big Problem_1
The deep-set eyes turned to Ji Nuan: "You can’t not apply it. If you apply it, it’ll hurt for a bit, but if you don’t, it’ll hurt for a long time."
(Getting hurt feels good for a moment, but being constantly hurt is blissful.)
Ji Nuan couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the sight of the orc who, on ordinary days, was tall and robust, acting as if he were untouchable, but was now whimpering about pain here and there. It was hilariously absurd.
All she could do was glare at him and continue applying the potion.
Xiu Yan gazed down at the little female who was seriously applying the potion to his wounds, his heart felt incredibly soft.
After applying the medication, Ji Nuan tidied up the bed in the tent and looked at the weary-eyed orc: "You rest for a bit. I’m going to check on the other orcs. What would you like to eat tonight?"
Xiu Yan thought for a moment. His first instinct was to blurt out "purple fruit rice" and "stir-fried meat slices," but upon seeing the concerned face of the little female, he replied instead, "Anything you cook, I love."
Ji Nuan glanced at the orc in surprise. Where did he learn to speak such charming words?
She nodded and replied, "All right then, I’ll just make whatever. Rest well!’
Watching as the young female left the beast skin tent, Xiu Yan’s heavy eyelids finally closed, and he wrapped himself in the warm beast skin blanket and fell into a deep sleep.
Thanks to its walls, the Watson Tribe had withstood the onslaught of the beast tide. In contrast, the tribes downstream of Eneru Forest hadn’t been so lucky.
The smaller tribes in the forest were nearly decimated by the beast tide, with almost no survivors from amongst the tribal members.
The combined forces of the four major tribes were entrenched in a standoff with the beast tide. Relying on Dashi Tribe’s fortuitous terrain, they managed to hold off the beast tide’s vanguard at the bottom of the mountain with minimal orc casualties.
However, the expressions on the faces of the four tribal chiefs in the cave at Dashi were far from relaxed.
"With so many beasts, we can’t just keep resisting like this," Sangguo sighed.
Shi Jie paced restlessly, several large blisters forming at the corners of his mouth: "We have no idea when this beast tide will end. We’re already running low on food. With the beast tide blocking us here, we can’t even go hunting."
Teng Kui slammed his fists on the ground: "Damned beasts, they’re even devouring the bodies of their own kind, leaving us without a scrap of food."
Xiong Da, who usually wore a childish grin, now wore a grim expression: "If too many of our tribespeople die, we might miss out on the major trade conference this year."
Upon hearing this, the other chiefs’ faces turned even graver.
The major trade conference...
A secret among the tribes downstream of the Eneru River...
...
"Chief, how much food do we have left?" Ji Nuan asked Chief Ge Xing, who was drooling on the side of the pot while she threw noodles into it.
Ge Xing wiped at the corner of his mouth and thought for a moment before replying: "Enough to feed the tribespeople for another half month."
Ji Nuan’s face tightened: "We need to start thinking about sourcing more food. No one knows how long this beast tide will last. If we’re trapped in the tribe without food, we’ll die."
Ge Xing nodded: "I’ve already told the orcs to collect the bodies of the beasts they’ve killed. These damned beasts, God knows how long they’ve gone without food. They’re even eating the corpses of their own kind."
