Chapter 83: Chapter 79, Preparation for the Assembly_1
Inside the cave, Ge Xing was seated on a Beast Skin resting when he saw Ji Nuan helping the Shaman enter. He suddenly recalled something and spoke, "Ji Nuan, your uncle has something to say to you."
Ji Nuan lifted her head in confusion, looking at him, "What is it, Uncle Clan Leader?"
Ge Xing propped himself up into a sitting position, his face serious, "In half a month, it will be the Tribe gathering in the Eneru Forest. As I mentioned before, I’ll be taking you along to this gathering, so you might want to prepare more for trading what you need during this period."
Ji Nuan’s eyes sparkled. She’d been in this world for a long time now but she hadn’t ventured to other places. This was probably a great opportunity, following the Tribe to the gathering.
With a chirp of excitement, she nodded, "Okay, I got it. By the way, uncle, what is popular at the gathering?"
Ge Xing chuckled, "Of course it would be Beast Skin and food. However, food is not easy to carry, so we will start hunting once we get past the Eneru Mountain. You might want to prepare more Beast Skin."
Ji Nuan pondered for a moment before she raised her head to ask, "What if I prepared some easy to preserve food to bring along?"
The Shaman stepped in quickly, "Easy to preserve food? You mean the Stinky Fruit, right?"
Ji Nuan nodded, "It’s food made from the Stinky Fruit but no beast would be aware that it’s made from the Stinky Fruit. Hehe!"
Ge Xing and the Shaman immediately sighed in relief. The idea that Stinky Fruit could be made into delicious food was best kept only within their Tribe.
However, they didn’t know that over at the Tumang Tribe, Manli had already spread the news that Stinky Fruit could be turned into food to Ya Li and Ya Gu. Though she didn’t know how to do it, she knew the fruit had to be boiled in water.
The Shaman and the Clan Leader of the Tumang Tribe didn’t pay much attention to this information. To them, game was the most important food source. Stinky Fruit merely held the same position as any other fruit gathered by the females.
Hence, the collection of the Stinky Fruit was left to Ya Gu.
"Ah, right, Ji Nuan. You can exchange for a few Slave Beasts at the gathering this time. You’re currently living a very inconvenient life with just one beast." Grandma Shaman mentioned helplessly.
Ji Nuan, this little cub, wasn’t keen on keeping a guardian beast, nor did she have a mate. Although she’s together with Xiu Yan now, there were many things that two beasts couldn’t handle by themselves.
Ji Nuan was taken aback, Slave Beasts? If she wasn’t mistaken, it should mean slaves, right? Have slaves already appeared on the mainland?
Ge Xing smacked the Beast Skin, his face glowing, "Yeah, you should get a few Slave Beasts this time. They can help you when it gets too busy."
For someone who had lived in the 21st century, the existence of slaves gave her an uncomfortable feeling.
Ji Nuan searched her memory for awhile, but still couldn’t find any information about Slave Beasts. She turned helplessly to Chief Ge Xing, "Uncle, what are Slave Beasts?"
Ge Xing was stunned for a moment before he looked at Ji Nuan with a helpless expression, "Slave Beasts are the children of weak Orcs. These Orcs exchange their children with us, the Beast Clan, hoping that they will have food to eat in our tribe and survive."
Ji Nuan nodded in understanding. This seemed to be merely a survival strategy. If the Beast Orcs were not always able to feed themselves, it would be an even greater challenge for the weaker Orcs. These weaker Orcs were sometimes the preferred prey for beasts in the forest, which is why these Orcs were very good at hiding.

In the Food Storage Cave, Ji Nuan dumped the last bit of purple fruit into the clay pot and added enough water. She lit a small burn, slowly simmering it.
She chose a marinated Giggle Beast, cutting its breast meat into small pieces. Together with a few types of fruit seasoning, she split it into two clay bowls to marinate.
The rice porridge in the clay pot was bubbling away, emitting a sweet fragrance. While waiting, Ji Nuan woven two more baskets. These utilities were quite important now, much more practical compared to Beast Skin bags.
When the rice porridge was half-cooked, Xiu Yan returned with two big Green Bull Beasts on his shoulders. In his left hand, he casually swung a little calf that was constantly mooing in panic.
The little guy seemed terrified of the ferocious Silver Wolf Orc. Its four small hooves were stiff as if it was a piece of sun-dried meat, and with Xiu Yan’s movement swaying it, its innocent eyes welled up with tears while it continued to make soft mooing sounds. It was truly pitiable.
Ji Nuan dumped the marinated meat from the bowl into the clay pot to continue simmering it before she got up to leave the cave.
In surprise, she pointed at the mooing calf, "Why did you catch a live one?"
Xiu Yan threw the two Green Bull Beasts onto the ground and lifted his arm that was holding the calf. The poor little thing’s eyes were full of tears as it swayed with his movement like a piece of sun-dried meat.
"Brought it back to drink its blood ah, the other Orcs have already drunk it, you need to replenish your energy too, otherwise you will have no strength." he said.
