Chapter 229: Chapter 228, Earthquake?_1
"What? You said you encountered Ge Xing of Watson Tribe?" A booming voice echoed in the mountain cave of the Gray Bear Tribal Chief.
Sitting at one end of the beast skin rug was a young orc - the one with the straightforward square face, who had previously been encountered in the new settlement of the Watson Tribe.
He nodded and said, "Yes, Father. I heard some noises and signs of orc activity while hunting on the flatlands. So, I went over with the tribespeople and discovered it was the Watson Tribe, messing around with mud."
The Gray Bear Tribal Chief questioned with curiosity, "Mud? What are they doing with mud?"
The young orc scratched his head. "I don’t know either. I guess they must be using the mud to build a cave. As there are no hills on the flatlands, they have nowhere to live."
The Clan Leader scoffed, "A cave built with mud will collapse once it rains, won’t it? Ge Xing has clearly aged and is becoming more foolish."
The young Orc nodded casually, sharing the same sentiment.
Meanwhile, the so-called unintelligent Chief Ge Xing was directing the orcs to burn the green mud models which had been drying out for several days.
The plain, now cleared of weeds, was covered with many bonfires. In front of each fire, orcs were tending to the flames, adding firewood, collecting burnt clay bricks and tiles, and placing more mud models into the fire.
As days passed, the towering city wall began to take shape, wider, higher, and thicker than those of the old tribal settlements.
Looking at the gradually forming majestic city wall, the Watson Tribe’s orcs were filled with pride and joy.
"Tribal Chief, the prey in the forest has been gradually decreasing in the past few days. Even the occasional ones seem to disappear quickly." Lei Er, who was in charge of hunting that day, brought back the unpleasant news which furrowed Ge Xing’s brows.
"How could that be? There should be more prey now, not less." Ge Xing muttered to himself. After a while, finding no explanation, he finally waved his hand, "Without game to hunt, go and help with the construction of the city wall. I’ll go ask the Shaman."
Having spoken, he first went to the river to cleanse himself of the dirt before calling Ji Nuan from his tent. Together, they headed to Grandma Shaman’s tent.
Grandma Shaman was busily arranging the herbs that the orcs had gathered for her over the days. Seeing Ge Xing and Ji Nuan coming together, she looked surprised, "Why are you here at this time?"
Ji Nuan shrugged perplexedly, "I don’t know either. Uncle Ge Xing said he had something to discuss with us and dragged me over."
Having said so, both orcs turned their gaze towards Chief Ge Xing.
Without beating around the bush, a serious expression on his face, Chief Ge Xing said, "Lei Er went hunting today but didn’t encounter a single prey. I wonder what is happening."
Ji Nuan’s heart skipped a beat. Animals are highly sensitive to disasters and dangers. Once a threat looms, they quickly flee to safety. Could it be that some danger is about to strike here?
Grandma Shaman paused from arranging the herbs and looked deeply at Uncle Ge Xing, "Not a single one?"
Ge Xing shook his head, "There was an Elk, but it dashed away as if it had been scared."
Instantly, Grandma Shaman sat up straight, "When you were very young, there was once a great shaking of the earth occurred in the Eneru Forest. The ground shook violently, rocks fell from the mountains, and caves started to collapse."
