Chapter 272: Chapter 271, Wilted? _1
By the time Ji Nuan and the others returned to the tribe, the sky had darkened considerably. The tribespeople were anxiously waiting on the city walls because Xiu Yan and the others had never returned this late from a hunt before.
Chief Ge Xing led a group of orcs forward to relieve them of the game animals they carried. Qi Mo, Little Pipi, and the other females gathered around Ji Nuan, peppering him with questions. Their concern was palpable.
Feeling the concern of everyone, Ji Nuan’s heart filled with warmth, "No worries, we ran into Ying Da from the Dashi Tribe on our way back. We helped him hunt a snake beast, and that’s why we are a bit late."
Seeing Ji Nuan saying so, the straightforward orcs who weren’t good at lying quickly bobbed their heads in agreement. Their expressions were very serious, confirming that Ji Nuan was telling the truth and not lying.
Seeing that the orcs were fine, the tribespeople seperated to prepare dinner.
Ge Ye and the other females opened the baskets brought back by Ji Nuan and were surprised to see the wilting seedlings within
"Anuan, are these the seedlings of the crispy sweet fruit?" Ge Ye’s voice wavered with an indescribable excitement, for she loved to eat crispy sweet fruit.
Ji Nuan nodded his head, "They should be. The Orcs of the Gray Bear Tribe value these seedlings a lot. They’ve even cleared the weeds and trees around them."
Qi Mo and Little Pipi were eagerly looking at the delicate seedlings with their mouths watering. Although they had only eaten the crispy sweet fruit a few times, its flavor was deeply ingrained in their stomachs and hearts.
Little Pipi took out a handful of the wilting seedlings from the basket, "Anuan, these little seedlings look wilted. They’re not going to die, are they?"
Ji Nuan smacked his forehead, cursing himself for forgetting such an important matter.
He quickly asked, "Did you girls finish tilling the soil like I asked you to? We need to plant these seedlings right now, or they might die."
Upon hearing this, the females quickly moved aside, allowing the orcs to lift the baskets of seedlings.
Qi Mo led the way and shared, "We finished tilling the soil early this morning. A few Pangolin Orcs helped us, so it was unbelievably quick."
Ji Nuan raised his eyebrows; this indeed made things a lot easier. He had been worried about tools not being suitable for the job when he left in the morning.
Together, the orcs planted the wilted seedlings and watered them.
After the hustle and bustle, all the orcs were sweaty. However, seeing the neat rows of seedlings in the firelight filled their hearts with joy.
If these seedlings could grow up, they, the Watson Tribe, would have their own crispy sweet fruit.
"Ji Nuan, are you done planting? The food is ready, wash your hands and come have dinner!" Directing the words from the fire, Ge Rou’s voice chimed in.
Ji Nuan and the orcs looked at each other and chuckled, loudly replying, "Done planting, we will wash our hands now."
They then excitedly rushed to the riverside to wash the mud off their hands, clutching their skinny bellies as they ran back to the fire.
Ge Rou had prepared violet fruit rice and stir-fried meat slices. The aromatic meat was served with a rich sauce over the rice. Ji Nuan couldn’t help but salivate at the mouthwatering aroma.
As for the other orcs, they began to wolf down the food as soon as it was served, using their chopsticks with such urgency that the food in their large porcelain bowls disappeared at a speed that the naked eye could perceive.
