Chapter 234: Chapter 233, Worship! _1
Cleaning the dirt off himself after climbing down the city wall, he staggered towards the city gate. From a distance, he could see Bear, who was as big as a mountain, waiting for him. He teased, "Bear, you must have missed me a lot. We were apart just for a short while, why did you come looking for me again?"
Bear rolled his eyes and said, "Stop being so vain. Who would miss you? I am here because I have something very important to talk to you about."
Seeing his serious expression, Ge Xing put on a severe face too, and walked together with Bear towards the tribe’s dwellings.
"Do you guys live in such small huts?" Bear asked, touching the tent made of beast skins.
Ge Xing sighed, "Yes, after migrating here we found out that there was not enough territory in the forest for the tribe to survive. We had no choice but to come to the plains where at least we might catch a few yellow sheep and Green Bull Beasts."
Ge Xing spoke with a tinge of sadness in his voice that touched Bear’s heart.
After thinking for a while, Bear suggested, "What if you bring your tribe and join ours, the Gray Bear Tribe? We have a vast territory and plenty of game. As long as you are committed to hunting, you won’t starve."
Ge Xing shook his head reluctantly, "Let’s talk about that later. Unless it’s a matter of life and death, who would be willing to abandon their own tribe?"
Bear nodded, "Yes, we are all bound by the legacy passed down generations."
Feigning tearfulness, Ge Xing asked Bear, "What’s the matter today? I thought by now you would be at your tribe arranging for the oncoming Beast Wave."
Bear nodded, "Most of it has been arranged. I came here to let you know that Gray Bear Tribe, Dashi Tribe, Guo Tribe, and Vine Tribe have decided to form an alliance. We will gather on Dashi Mountain to fend off the Beast Wave. I also wanted to ask whether the Watson Tribe would like to join."
Ge Xing blinked at the unexpected solidarity among the downstream tribes.
He nodded excitedly, "Of course! Our tribe has fewer beasts, and not enough food. If we can join, that would be the best scenario."
Bear scratched his head awkwardly, "Ge Xing... The thing is, since your tribe has too few beasts, you won’t be able to make much difference in fighting the Beast Wave. So, the other three tribes are a bit hesitant. They think that if they are to protect your tribe, you need to contribute some food."
Ge Xing’s expression instantly turned bitter, "Bear, we’re friends, so I won’t hide it from you. The food our tribe has preserved has been exhausted. We’re only able to eat a bit from the hunts of our Orcs. We simply cannot afford to share anything with you!"
Bear deflated, "If it was only my tribe, I would definitely let you join in. But now..." He shook his head.
Ge Xing patted his shoulder, "It’s okay, I believe we can get through this on our own, even if it’s just us."
Bear took it as comfort words. Since the matter couldn’t be settled, he felt embarrassed to stay longer and excused himself from Chief Ge Xing.
At the gate of the tribe, Ge Xing watched Bear’s figure receding into the distance. He smiled, not knowing who might need whose protection in the future.
