Chapter 65: A perfect toxic match The cave did seem cosier, as he said, and Abrielle knew she might slap herself in the face tomorrow, but that didn’t matter at the moment. Rather, she didn’t think about it. "Magic, may I?" She asked. Her curiosity was tugging the more mysterious he seemed. She wanted to know if he was the way he envisioned him to be. "Of course," he said gently. She nervously gulped and then tried to pull off the mask. This time, it easily moved, and she slowly pulled it away from his face. The original Abrielle never got to see Cedric’s face throughout the novel because he was insecure about his scared face. She was expecting a hideous scar that probably disfigured his face and was curious how bad it was. Her breath was caught in her throat as she anticipated. After the mask was pulled off, she was dumbfounded and completely blown off for a moment. She could not believe her eyes and ran her hands in his face just to be sure it was real. "Not even a single scar, why do you even wear a mask in the first place?" she mumbled and a cheesy grin graced his face that left Abrielle devastated. "I told you before. It’s because my face got me into a lot of problems in the past." He answered, which was not absurd because what was she looking at? How could a man be this gorgeous and he was the villain in the first place? Something was wrong; she knew that. Completely struck she was unable to look away. She clearly remembered that Cedric had multiple scars on his face due to the bullying he suffered during his childhood in the palace and on the battlefield. But the man she was looking at was like he was a gorgeous devil with perfect features and no scars. If he was this looking, he would indeed get into a lot of trouble with the ladies. It explained why his step-sister was head over heels for him. "I thought your face scared," she admitted, and he moved closer, just an inch from her face with his intoxicating breath fanning on her. Her heart could not handle this tease because it was hammering out of control, which didn’t skip Cedric’s attention. "It would have been but I have a couple secrets of mine. I know my face is irresistible and you have fallen all over for me." He proudly said, sounding like a narcissist. Her face turned scarlet but she did not look away because she didn’t want to and wanted to get her eyes filled. If she was superficial and he wasn’t destined to kill her, he would have captured her heart instantly, but this just reminded her of how dangerous he was. His features were like it was sculptured with care; he didn’t look too sharp or gentle. Every part was perfectly balanced, from his thick black brows to his perfect cheekbones and chiselled jaw she was subconsciously running her fingers on. His gold eyes were shining and magnetic. His high, straight nose cast a shadow on some part of his face, and her eyes then subconsciously moved to those perfect full lips. He was dangerously good-looking, even for a villain, she felt her heart beating slowly. Cedric didn’t stop her from touching his face but was amused at her reaction; it was like she was in a dream. He knew he was good looking and it was one of the reasons he got into a lot of problems in his past. The queen had once used a dagger to slice through his left eye to make him seem ugly because she could not stand the fact he stole the spotlight from her son. That night, he had cried his eyes out as blood marred his face, but the next morning, there was no sign of an injury at all, and this left the queen infuriated. She started spreading several rumours calling him the devil’s spun just to ruin his image. Cedric didn’t fight off the allegations because he wasn’t a saint deep down and was even worse than how she described him. An evil incarnate he would describe himself. "If looks alone were enough to make someone fall in love." Abrielle retorted, and it made his eyes sparkle. Her words were a stark contrast to the look in her eyes. "You better look away. If not, you will be hopelessly in love with me, not that I mind, but the longer you look, the more drawn you are. Even my sister could not resist." Cedric mentioned reminding her of the rumours the maids told her of before. He was right, the last thing she wanted was to fall in love with her executionist just because of his looks. She retracted her hand and then turned to the other side. Her heartbeat was still out of control, and now she regretted looking at his face. The more she knew Cedric Von Drakkar the more of a mystery he was. This was slowly making her doubt what she thought but it didn’t change the fact he was a psycho who had tried to kill her twice. Cedric’s dominant presence was behind her; she did her best to ignore it, but it seemed close to impossible. His arm wrapped around her waist pulling her closer against his body. There were no blankets here, so they had to share each other’s warmth. At that, she froze, uncomfortable by their closeness, but she dared not complain about him. Cedric felt her stiffened in his hold but he did retract his hand. She had no choice but to get used to it because he had no plans of sparing her from the hell he called his life. She would have tried harder to run that day. His actions were puzzling to him but he didn’t let himself dwell on the fact he considered her an exception and tolerated her more than anyone. In his defence, he was just a good husband, a perfect toxic match for her.
