Chapter 20: She requested for his head It was like a puzzle was presented to Hanes and Cedric was not patient for his answer as his gold gaze stared keenly at Hanes. Hanes swallowed hard as his throat had gone dry. "Option 1," he barely says. There was a slim possibility his family might escape the guide, but there was nowhere for them to run if Cedric was coming after them. The royal might in Darconia was no joke. "At least your brains are still functioning." Cedric spat at Hanes, but he could not be angry. There was no point in being. "The sex trafficking chain is mainly controlled by the headquarters. They relay information about our victims if there is a specific target, but most times, we just kidnap random girls. They give information about the ships and location and all we do is relay those instructions to the people involved." Hanes started explaining further, but the majority of the things he mentioned were information Cedric was already aware of. "Let’s skip the long grammar and go to something I don’t know. Where is the headquarters?" Cedric asked, that was what he needed to know the most. "Unfortunately, that is information I am unaware of. That’s all I know." Cedric didn’t know if Hanes was telling the complete truth, but this was an outcome he suspected. "How unfortunate that is." Cedric sighed then turned away to leave. One of his men unsheathed his sword to end Hanes life. He closed his eyes, waiting for the death to come, but the blade didn’t slice through his neck. It just stopped on his skin cutting him lightly with blood trickling down Cedric stopped in his tracks as a thought popped into his head. Then he gave a sign to the knight to stop just in time before the blade could cut further. Hanes stared curiously at Cedric’s tall figure. His broad back exuded power that made one weak to their knees. "One last question: why did you kidnap my wife to sell her to the trafficking operations?" He asked as his eyes darkened, but his back was against them, so no one saw the look in his eyes. Hanes was a bit thrown off; when did his men kidnap the first prince’s wife? Only a fool would do that. "I don’t understand. When did we ever kidnap your wife?" Hanes honestly said, and Cedric’s brows furrowed. "I am talking about the lady in the royal maid outfit." He explained further, he was a bit more patient than regular. Hanes’s eyes went wide like a saucer. He remembered the person in question but couldn’t believe it was the prince’s wife. Was he so much of a monster his wife wanted nothing to do with him? "She was kidnapped because her request was absurd, and we came to the conclusion she was a spy," Hanes explained and now Cedric was the one left speechless. Abrielle had snuck out of the shop to contract the shadow claw guide. He had several questions running into his head like why did she need their service? How did she know about them and where to find them? He might not know all the answers but he had a bad feeling about it. He turned around to look back at Hanes with his sharp eyes. "What was her request?" Cedric demanded but Hanes was reluctant to answer. "She requested to have the first prince of Darconia head at whatever price." Hanes hesitantly said, and before he could blink, his head was already rolling on the floor close to Cedric’s feet as blood splattered all over his severed neck. Cedric’s eyes flickered between black and gold as he tried to hold his raging emotions. He sheathed the sword after he whipped off the blood back into the scabbard. Then, he walked away from the mess; he didn’t know why, but the news of Abrielle trying to commission assassins after him made him mad. Everything was confusing; he just didn’t understand why the Duke’s daughter, who had a crazy obsession with someone like him, who was a figure of hate, suddenly wanted him dead. **** Abrielle had demanded to see Sarah, but as she expected, Cedric’s words were the law. Her request was denied and her guilt started to eat her up. Sarah might be a side character with little or no relevance to the story, but to Abrielle, she felt like an actual person. All she knew was that Sarah was imprisoned somewhere on the ship she had no idea of. She had to beg Cedric to let her go but she held no value to her husband. Her plan backfired because of poor planning and strategy. The most annoying part was that she was followed everywhere and every second. The night got dark, and flames continued to raze over Moonstone Harbour, and there was no sign of Cedric. In the end, she retired to her room. Her eyes were locked on the glass roof, watching the moonless sky as her thoughts wandered until she eventually fell asleep. A couple of minutes later, the door of her room creaked open, and Cedric came in with his entire outfit dripping with blood. After killing so many, his blood was still boiling. He has been careful his entire life that was how he was able to survive in the royal place amidst all the scheming. If anyone was a threat, he got rid of them immediately. He unshielded his sword, and his gold eyes, which were pitch black, were staring at her figure as she slept under the night lights. The room was dimly lit with candles which made her skin look golden. She was beautiful without a doubt but had a vicious heart. He thought she was all game and fun, but her heart was vicious; she went far enough to drink her poison and even approached a dangerous group like the Shadow Claw just to kill him. He wondered how far she was ready to go to achieve her plans. Cedric pointed the edge of his blade at her neck; it pricked her lightly, and blood trickled down. All he had to do was cut off her head and kill her. She was so vulnerable before him and yet she wanted to claim his life.
