Chapter 25: Challenge him Waking up and being harassed by Cedric was the perfect way Abrielle could start a bad day. As Cedric said, no maid directly attended to her; a little bit of water was sent to her to use to wash up, and her breakfast was the hardest bread she had had in her life with plain soup. She was left to cater for herself. Not that it was very difficult, but dry bread and soup, that man was after her life. She could barely eat anything but this level of punishment was better than whips or death. Cedric was a short circuit tempered.... ’ Ahhhh, this is frustrating.’ Abrielle wanted to scream but she could not. She thought her punishment was going to be just a day but Cedric got to be kidding with her. She couldn’t stand another day eating just dry bread and soup. The soup was disgusting. Tears formed in her eyes as her hatred for Cedric got renewed. She could not believe she was even craving his touch. He was a monster. "At this rate, I might die from malnutrition." She mumbled looking at her breakfast. The same dry bread and soup she was given thrice yesterday. Even the maids don’t eat this. She had been so busy she forgot about Sarah. Yesterday, after having this disgusting excuse of food in the morning, she had sought out Cedric to maybe apologize, but he refused to see her. Then she thought maybe it was for a day, but no, she had underestimated the devil. The chair screeched against the floor as she got on her feet, leaving the mini table she had been using to have her meals indoors. "This is enough. Whether he likes it or not, he will have to see my face." She declared then stormed for the door to find her husband. The door was abruptly pushed open, startling the guard at the door. Soon, the ginger-headed princess burst out of the room, storming away. He was dumbfounded at first but followed after the princess he was assigned to look after. Abrielle had no idea exactly where Cedric was or his bedroom here but her instincts told her he was on the deck. Since she was the one who solely attended to herself. Her outfit was minimalistic and easy to move in. It was a simple sky-blue gown, and her hair was packed into a messy bun. It was a bit challenging styling her long ginger hair. Her shoes clicked on the wooden floor as she made her way to the deck. From a distance, she already heard the clanking sounds of swords blades against each other. On arriving at the deck, Abrielle was caught up in a heated spar between Cedric and Elias, the head of his elite knight. She was barely able to avoid being cut by Cedric’s sword because she was between him and Elias. Elias had to pull her out of the way since it was too late for Cedric to stop his sword. In the process, Elias was badly injured while Abrielle was behind Elias with her eyes wide like saucers. It was indeed her fate to die by his blade. "What are you doing here?" Cedric asked her with his eyes solely on her. He scoffed at her pitiful expression and how she clung to Elias like her life depended on it. She was vicious enough to think about hiring assassins to kill her newly wedded husband but was scared about the same blade cutting her neck. Abrielle was too stunned for her mouth to form words; her mouth parted and then closed. Her gaze was on Cedric, whose face was dripping with sweat as it seemed like he was sun-kissed in his all-black training attire. Even when he was about to kill her, he was still good-looking. Elias hissed in pain as he watched blood dripping down from the wound in his arm to the floor. He was still holding Abrielle protectively in one arm; he knew Cedric’s bloodlust was too much that he could have Injured the princess severely. Abrielle’s eyes darted from Cedric to Elias, who was seriously injured. The flesh wound was very bad, and if Elias had not pulled her away in time, the blade would have targeted her neck. "Are you alright?" She asked Elias with her eyes wide in horror ignoring the question Cedric asked her earlier. Cedric didn’t like the sight of her clinging to Elias. He grabbed her hand, pulling her away from Elias’s back she was clinging to. "I asked a question, Abrielle. What are you doing outside your room?" He asked her in a threatening low tone. He didn’t know if he was mad because she was clinging to Elias while ignoring his question or the fact she left her room. Abrielle was snapped out of her dumbstruck state by Cedric’s angry voice. "Huh," she stuttered, taking a while to remember what she was doing as she looked at his angry face. "I, I, I came to talk to you." She finally answered while stammering. Cedric clicked his tongue because he knew exactly why she wanted to talk to him. "The answer is no." He replied, then his eyes went to Elias, who had tied his arm above the injury to reduce the bleeding. "Go get yourself treated. You are dismissed." He dismissed Elias who bowed then left. "How can you say no before even hearing what I have to say?" She argued back at him not caring that her voice was high and attention was being drawn to them. "You should have thought about your actions before you tried to fool me and insult me. " Cedric deadpanned walking away. Abrielle didn’t stop and continued following him. "I am very sorry. It will never happen again." She pleaded but he scoffed at her. He was sure she was probably scheming about the next method to kill him. "How believable." He sneered as he sheathed his sword. Abrielle could not give up just remembering the taste of the stale bread and soup on her tongue gave her the urge to throw up. "What can I do to make you believe I am serious?" She begged him, running behind to catch up with his long strides. A smile got on his lips, "If you can beat me in a spar I might consider." Cedric made the most ridiculous suggestion ever. That was impossible for her to beat him, but to his shock, instead of her giving up, she replied indeed. "When do we start?" She asked instead. Cedric stopped and then glanced at her with a quizzical look. "You want to spar against me." He repeated. "Yes if that is what it takes not to eat another dry bread with soup." Abrielle firmly said, not giving up.
