Chapter 152: Can’t afford falling in love Cedric’s face was stoic, making it hard for Abrielle to know if he was joking or not. "The best remedy will be to get you out of the dress. It must be hard being in that corset all day." He casually stated like it was no big deal saying she should strip in a carriage. "You must be joking. Right?" Abrielle chuckled, brushing off his words. Finally, a smirk graced his words. "Not really, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea, but I understand that you would rather endure the discomfort than get out of the dress. " He answered. A black smoke-like particle started leaving his fingertips while he continued rubbing her feet, and the pain slowly disappeared. Abrielle was surprised at his healing techniques. It was different from what she had envisioned. "Why is it black instead of green?" She curiously asked. Her head was even getting clear, and her stomach upset recovered. He had definitely used healing magic, but it was different. "Because it isn’t healing magic," Cedric answered. "Then what is..." Cedric shushed her, placing his thumb on her lips. "You ask a lot of questions. curiosity killed the cat, remember."Cedric answered. He obviously was hiding something from Abrielle, the true nature of his abilities, which she was unaware of. It was something Cedric didn’t want to share with her yet. "My lips are sealed." "You didn’t have a choice either in the first place." The carriage continued its journey, and soon, they arrived at the seaside castle where the couple resided. The door was open and Cedric stepped out first to give Abrielle a hand. Her little hand was completely covered by his larger palms. Abrielle was puzzled, wondering if she was going to walk on the snow barefoot since Cedric already pulled off her shoes, yet she didn’t resist and accepted his hand. She dared not refuse. Cedric grabbed her hand, yanking her off the carriage. The next thing she knew was that she was in his arms, close to his chest. She could even hear his heartbeat. She yelped, surprised at his actions, and justified that he was doing it because her shoes were off. She stared back at his strong jawline, biting her inner cheeks. Cedric had never carried the original Abrielle like this before. To be honest, she realized there were slight changes in his attitude from the original Cedric, but she doubted it was enough to change the plot. This Cedric made her scared of the one thing she feared the most, which was to fall in love with the man destined to end her. She had to steel her heart for the goal; she could not have any fondness for him. It would be her end. She was still in his arms with her head against his chest. They both didn’t say a word to each other, Cedric’s head was filled with his own thoughts. A lot has been happening lately, from the warning to let Abrielle go, the sorcerers, the food scarcity, and then there was the problem of his brother picking up Interest in Abrielle. It was an annoying thought but he was sure Abrielle wasn’t dumb enough to fall for Alfonso’s sweet mouth. The door was pushed open, making a slightly creaking noise. Cedric walked into the dimly lit room illuminated by the faint lights of the fireplace. It was already very dark outside. He placed her on the bed and leaned forward to place a peck on her forehead. The voices in his head were silent but he was sure they would soon come back to haunt him. "Good night, Aby." He said, causing her eyes to go wide. Did he just call her a nickname? "Aby," she replied in disbelief. "Isn’t that your name?" Cedric pulled back, arching a brow at her. "No one calls me that. The only nickname I have is Elle, which my parents call me by," she answered, which was true based on the memories of Abrielle she had. A smile tugged Cedric’s lips. "I guess that it is special between us then. Try to rest after a long day. "Cedric’s voice was fleeting as he made his way to the door. He closed the door behind him and a long groan escaped his lips while he raked his fingers through his hair. "Meow," he heard Yuki meow from the ground. Cedric stared at the sneaky cat that wanted to go in. He didn’t like the cat and only tolerated it because of Abrielle. "Don’t you get sick of pretending?" He scoffed at the pretentious little fellow who acted like a harmless kitten. Yuki’s eyes were glaring at Cedric. The dislike between them was mutual only if he was stronger than him. Cedric’s attention was drawn from Yuki to a group of maids that were heading for Abrielle’s room. "Good evening your Highness." They simultaneously greeted Cedric before entering the room, leaving him and Yuki once again. "Nothing better happens to her or I will skin you alive. " The tyrant prince threatened an innocent-looking cat before walking away. On his way down, he came across Elias, who had been waiting for his master. "The horses are ready to leave," Elias informed Cedric. His towering figure emerged out of the castle into the cold night. His horse was already waiting in front as Elias said. He mounted the horse without sparing a word he rode off. Elias followed behind understanding his master. Cedric’s horse rode like the wind, and in no time, he arrived back at the Silver Crescent Palace. "Are we here to see the king or Ryker?" Elias asked Cedric while getting down from his horse. Cedric’s face was dark, he was pissed but he managed to spare Elias an answer "I just want to pay my dear father a night visit since he decided to be smart." He answered, then made his way inside the palace, heading straight for the King’s study. The Banquet kept on running in his mind, and he almost lost control because of Lucian’s shunt. He didn’t want to imagine what might have happened if he had snapped. This was all because of some dumb plan.
