Chapter 195: The masked ball The original Abrielle found out about the letters when her whispers of it reached her ears. The letters were not love letters and were just plain describing the trip, but it meant a lot for someone like Cedric to even bother writing back to Callista. "He is so annoying. Why can’t he just be a little different from the novel? Why can’t this be like those transmigration books where he likes me instead because I wasn’t obsessed again?" Her hand froze stunned by what she said. She laughed, "I guess I am crazy to say something so stupid. I don’t care who he writes to or what happens to him." Yuki meowed at Abrielle drawing her attention to the white fur ball. "That’s right, I have you here." Abrielle humphed "It’s unfortunate that I might have to part with you too." Abrielle sighed; her gaze was on the fireplace that was burning lightly. ***** The Silver Crescent Palace was bustling with several carriages rolling in and out. The loud music could be heard from outside, and several guests dressed magnificently from all over came filling in. Without a doubt, they were all opulent figures. A white carriage stopped in front of the main entrance, and the footman rushed to open the door for the guest. A lovely lady with a slender figure and bright ginger hair stepped out. She was dressed in a lovely purple dress and her face was half covered under a matching purple mask. Her outfit screamed money, and the tiara made with sapphire on her hair explained her background as royalty. Our dear villainess stepped out of her carriage wearing a mask and started to follow the crowd to the grande hall. It was a masked parade or ball, Whatever suits to celebrate Queen Eleanor’s birthday. This year Eleanor’s birthday was even more grand than what was written in the novel. She most likely decided to go all out after she almost died in the fire attack. It was a celebration of life. Although it was hard to recognize some of the nobles as soon as they had their faces covered with masks, Abrielle still stood out with her ginger hair and the Tiara she had to wear because this was an official function that demanded she wear one. The tiara was cute although a bit itchy on her hair. Abrielle condoled the slight inconvenience since it looked great on her. Eleanor’s birthday was a major dramatic event in the novel for Callista of course. Abrielle just hoped she would survive tonight’s drama. The doors swung open and Abrielle made her way inside. Her presence was not announced since this was a masked ball but she was sure a lot of people recognized her. The grand hall of Silver Crescent palace shimmered with golden light; the chandeliers hung high in the crafted ceiling, casting a warm glow over the masked guests gathered to celebrate Queen Eleanor’s birthday. An event many look forward to. It was the highlight of the winter for all socialites. Being invited was considered more than an honour to many, but to Abrielle, it felt like a burden. She wondered why Eleanor bothered to invite her when the queen wasn’t particularly fond of her. The exotic Flowers from the Queen’s GreenHouse used for decorations and spiced wine filled the air as laughter and music swirled through the vast space. Eleanor always used her birthday as an opportunity to show off her year work more like her servant’s year work. Abrielle wanted nothing but to be far away from her, but her wishes were never respected. She was never going to get used to the gossip or the fake smiles, even less so for the nobles who whispered behind their masks, pretending they did not recognize her. But they did. Of course, they did. Even in disguise, she was unmistakably the infamous talentless daughter of the Nightshade family known to be obsessed with the fearsome prince Cedric Von Drakkar. Now she had a new title. The cursed wife who had a miscarriage on holy ground. With slow, deliberate steps, she entered the hall, the train of her sapphire gown gliding over polished marble. Her silver mask concealed half her face, her gaze darting around the room. There was no sign of Queen Eleanor yet. ’I guess I am early.’ Abrielle signed. Amongst the crowd, another figure whose presence skipped Abrielle’s attention sensed the shift in the room’s atmosphere. Curious, he followed everyone’s gaze and soon recognized Abrielle at first sight. She had a fiery presence that was hard not to recognize and could not be imitated by anyone. A soft smile graced his lips, and he immediately bowed. "Excuse me, I have to take my leave." He chimed, placing a soft kiss on the lady’s hand who had accompanied him earlier. The lady was displeased by this because she was enjoying the presence of the third prince. She parted her lips to complain, but before her words escaped her lips, he was already gone, mixed up in the crowd. She humphed, annoyed that he left so suddenly. Alfonso weaved through the crowd ignoring the whispers about Abrielle as he found her figure. Then, he finally had a full image of her, and for a moment, he could not breathe. The silver mask decorated with sapphire and purple topaz made her more alluring. She was radiant in her dress; her look was a perfect blend of silver and blue, and he could not see anyone who looked better in that colour tonight. Abrielle had a glass in between her fingers close to her lips as she was taking a sip. She didn’t have people around her; it was more like they were scared to approach her due to her reputation for having a nasty temper, yet they preferred speaking behind her back. They were all spineless hypocrites. At least they had their brains not to offend Prince Cedric’s wife but it seemed his family didn’t fear him as much as the outsiders. A voice smooth and fashionably annoying as ever sneered drawing her attention from her drink. It was early to have one but her nerves were all over the place. Here she goes again.
