Chapter 198: Unwanted guest at the ball Callista’s fingers curled into a fist, Abrielle’s words were provocative. Honestly, Abrielle never understood why this heroine always bothered her. It was getting on her nerves. Callista understands the meaning of Abrielle’s words. The princess wished it was enough to get Callista to buzz off but it wasn’t. "It doesn’t mean a servant can never be a princess." Callista retorted. "But it doesn’t change the fact she was always a servant. You and I can never be the same. That’s just the fact, and honestly, I would never be jealous." There was a loud silence issued between them. Abrielle’s gaze was sharp. "We can never be the same, which is true. We are different in every way, also true, but if I have everything you do, I can be better. After all, I am the one who possesses magic, and you don’t." Abrielle was amused, it was hilarious how these people thought their words could offend her. "And how exactly can you have everything I have?" Abrielle sneered. The sweet female lead was not as sweet as she acted. Callista had a sharp tongue when provoked, this was something Cedric admired about her. She was different from Abrielle, who always hid behind a pretentious smile. "Who knows," Callista chimed, her gaze flickering with mischief. "Take care, Princess Abrielle, Cedric would be worried, and I wonder how he will react to the news that his wife got cosy with his brother as soon as he travelled. He had a rather difficult journey, you know. His letter was rather detailed." Callista added. Abrielle laughed, her voice rather melodic. She was angry but it wasn’t targeted at Callista. The sassy female lead was not worth her anger. "I am glad he wrote to you and will appreciate it if you write back. He must be expecting your reply." Abrielle snickered. Cedric never disappointed her expectations; after acting like he cared, he still decided to write to his lover. Callista was angered, which Abrielle found weird and fishy. Abrielle smirked at the priestess, then walked past her, leaving her on the balcony. She had to keep her distance from Callista. She had survived the exchange with minimal damage. In the original plot, Abrielle had overheard Callista speaking to Lucian, expressing her genuine worry about Cedric. She had mentioned that they had exchanged letters which, of course, it pissed off the wife that was expecting a letter. Abrielle had lured out Callista, and they got into a disagreement. This marked the beginning of the rivalry between Abrielle and Callista because during their argument, Abrielle had gotten injured, and she accused Callista of harming her. No one believed her, of course, which increased her resentment for Callista. The highlight of the night was that Callista got poisoned tonight and Abrielle was the one that got accused. Abrielle was not the one, as a matter of fact, but there was no way to prove her innocence. No one stood by her side and made Abrielle realize how alone she was. Abrielle knew she had to stop Callista from getting into a major fight with her. That way, she would be free from every suspicion. Walking away from the balcony, Abrielle’s arm was suddenly yanked, pulling her away. Her heart jumped to her throat. Before she could register what was happening, the sound of glass shattering on the floor followed. Stunned, her eyes went wide, drawn to the chaos, same as many other eyes. The hall came to stand still. A waiter had lost his footing, falling on the floor along with several other expensive glasses filled with wine. She was in the way of the glasses someone had saved her. "Are you alright? You should be more aware of your environment." She heard a strange baritone. He had a strange accent Abrielle recognized as Heliosian. "I am fine, sorry I was a bit distracted," Abrielle blurted, turning to have a glimpse at her saviour’s face. She was disappointed to realise his face was covered with a mask, but his sharp blue eyes stood out, and they were oddly familiar. The man, who seemed to be in his youth, took a step back, giving Abrielle a subtle nod. "It’s fine. Be careful next time." He said then turned to leave. Abrielle’s gaze followed him. She had no idea who he was, but he had her gratitude. The man was soon approached by Kaiden, Abrielle’s brows knotted, wondering if he was an influential figure, one she had no idea of. She could not inquire more because she was suddenly pulled away from the scene. Her eyes glanced at the waiter, who was being harshly reprimanded by a superior before going to the Auburn hair prince that had been bothering her all night. "I take my eyes off for a second and you are already in the middle of some drama." Alfonso snapped, pulling her hand. He sounded worried; weirdly, it gave her a bitter taste in her mind. She could not help but compare Cedric to Alfonso. Why was the plot messing with her head? She yanked her hand from his hold. Luckily, he wasn’t holding her too tightly. "Your grip is too tight " she barked at him. She wasn’t wearing gloves, the reddish mark on her wedding was easy to see. It was annoying how fragile her skin was. "I am sorry I didn’t mean to hurt you. I was worried." Alfonso admitted. "There is no need to worry; I am fine. Someone saved me." Abrielle rubbed her wrist, which was aching. She glanced back at the crowd trying to find the man that helped her earlier. "That is what even makes me worry. You really have a talent for getting involved in people you should not, " Alfonso sighed, brushing his hair with his slender fingers. He was worked up over nothing. Abrielle’s eyes sparkled, "Do you know who he is?" She asked, genuinely curious who the man was. Alfonso clicked his tongue. "You ask a lot of questions. Forget he exists and present your gift to Eleanor so that you can leave. This party has unwanted guests." .
