Chapter 151: Almost human "Lucian," Callista’s voice was trembling, there was something in Lucian’s gaze that made her scared. Lucian glanced at Callista, confused as to why her voice was shaking. Abrielle cleared her throat thinking of a way to leave this sticky situation. "Thank you for helping me," she extended her gratitude then stepped back from Lucian. She tried to act as natural as she could. Lucian nodded, not sparing a word; he naturally walked towards Callista. "Why are you crying? Did something happen?" Lucian asked Callista, her lips quivered touched by his tenderness. Abrielle rolled her eyes behind them, then turning away, she scoffed. They are already giving dog food despite not affirming their relationship. On her way back to the banquet Abrielle could not shrug off the strange feeling she had. Who was the person Callista was talking to? She clearly doesn’t remember a scene like that happening in the novel. The doors opened, and she got into the lively hall; despite the argument earlier, both parties seemed to be enjoying the banquet. The musicians were entertaining the guests while chatter went around the room. Her gaze darted around the room until it fell on Cedric who was sitting idle drinking from his glass. The room was a bit rowdy making it hard to determine who was missing. She wondered if the person was a member of the royal family. Abrielle took her seat beside Cedric. He didn’t glance at her, placing his wine glass on the table. "What took you so long?" He asked while his gaze was fixated on Ophelia who seemed to be hitting off with Ryker. It seemed like they might be the match. Abrielle signalled a server to pour her a glass of wine, his gaze watching the red liquid slur into the glass. After the glass was filled, the server bowed and then excused herself. She reached out for her wine glass, her gaze following the direction Cedric was looking at. She was not surprised that Ophelia was conversing with Ryker. They did end up together in the original plot, but it wasn’t a love marriage. Almost all unions in the royal family were arranged. Lucian was the only one who ended up with the person he loved in the end. She brought the glass close to her lips taking a moment to enjoy the wine aroma. Cedric finally glanced at her a bit puzzled by her actions. He truly wondered what was going through that brain of hers. Abrielle parted her lips to sip the wine, it was indeed one of the best. It tasted as good as it smelled aged and strong. "I didn’t know you missed me. If I did, I would have come back earlier." She chimed, finally replying to him. She took light sips of the wine because of its strength. "I did tell you to be back early. This banquet was rather boring when you left." Cedric mentioned causing Abrielle to smirk. "I didn’t know I was so entertaining to my dear husband." She sneered taking another sip of the wine. She didn’t bring up what happened earlier while she was straying. "You have no idea dear." ******* The night drawled and the banquet slowly came to an end. Cedric walked Abrielle to the carriage. She was a bit lightheaded from taking a couple of drinks. Her footsteps were a bit clumsy; she almost tripped a couple of times. The footman opened the door then., Abrielle in her slightly drunk stare, could barely climb up with assistance. As soon as she sat down, Cedric followed behind, sitting by her side. The door closed and the carriage started to move. Things turned out smoothly tonight compared to the original plot, where Cedric created a mess during the confrontation, and to appease the siblings, Ophelia was given out instead. Abrielle sat at the end of the couch, giving him some distance instinctively, her gaze focused on the window as the carriage rode away. She could barely see anything in the dark combined with her throbbing head. "You should not have drank so much." Cedric’s voice said from behind her; he knew she was obviously tipsy but was trying her best to hide it. Her red cheeks and clumsiness said it all. "I barely had more than three glasses," she answered. Her stomach was already twisting and the swaying movement of the carriage was not helping. It felt like she would throw up any moment from now. Cedric moved over, then placed his palm on her forehead, a small frown etched in between his elegant brows. "You don’t look too good." He said, as a matter of fact; her eyes stared blankly at his face which seemed concerned. "I don’t feel good either." She admitted. "Where do you feel discomfort?" He asked her; hearing his question, she started ranting out everything on her mind. "My feet hurt like bad, my stomach is in a complete mess, and I feel like throwing up. This carriage is too stuffy and this dress is killing me." She whined complaining to him. Oddly Cedric didn’t find her complaints annoying. Instead, he bent over to carry her legs, placing it on his thighs which left her dumbfounded at what he was doing. "What are you doing?" She asked, trying to adjust her position and move her leg away from her thigh. She could not move it an inch due to his firm hold. He did not verbally answer her but his actions did. He pulled off her shoes exposing her red feet. Her toes were bruised from wearing shoes the entire day, her skin was really fragile and easily got injured. Cedric’s frown deepened, wondering how she was able to bear the pain. "This looks bad," he mentioned, then started massaging her feet. Abrielle felt so relieved as soon as the shoes were taken off that she swallowed back all her complaints. She just sat back to enjoy rare moments like this. He seemed human. Her eyes were locked on his side profile, watching him judiciously massaging her feet; he was completely focused on the task, and it made him look a bit cute. "Does it feel any better? Sorry if my acting is sloppy, this is my first time." Cedric said his eyes matching up with her. Abrielle’s heart skipped a beat and she immediately darted her head away. "Yes, it feels much better, but the discomfort from my feet is nothing compared to the torture I am going through to fit into this dress." "Maybe I should also get you out of that dress." Cedric casually mentioned causing her to snap her head back to him. "Pardon me."
