He asked, sounding pretty serious about the conversation, which made Abrielle more uncomfortable. How did asking about her finances turn into a topic of having children? She didn’t want to answer that question because either she escaped her fate or not, they wouldn’t be together long enough to have children. To her, it was a rather sensitive topic. "How have your investigation with the sorcerers going? I find it odd the king chose you and Lucian to work together." She changed the topic quickly. Cedric scoffed at her, he expected as much. Nothing had changed from her side she was still interested in killing him. That was rather hilarious, no matter how he thought about it, and he wondered what method she was going to use this time around. "I guess it’s because I don’t satisfy you enough." He answered, ignoring her earlier question; Abrielle almost choked on her spit at his brazen statement. Her face went completely red, the craziest part was that he had a neutral expression on his face No smirk on his handsome face. She tried to evade the topic, focusing on the report in front of her, but his unsettling gaze didn’t leave her for a second. "We are the only one here so I see nothing wrong about it. She abruptly stood up interrupting Cedric before he said whatever was on his mind. He was probably going say something that would leave her speechless for the wrong reasons. Abrielle didn’t give him a chance to say any other thing while she stormed out of the study like her life depended on it. Cedric arched his brows at her, a small smirk playing on his lips, watching her leave. As soon as the doors closed, his eyes dulled just like the person from earlier was non-existent. The rest of the day Abrielle spent her time in her room petting Yuki. It was better this way knowing Cedric was around. Her cheeks kept on burning thinking about the conversation earlier. It was getting harder each day to stay around him. **** There was a light knock on the door, drawing Cedric’s attention from the documents he was going through. "It’s Zoltana, Your Highness." Cedric heard the maid’s voice from the other side of the door. "You can come in." Cedric’s deep voice boomed from the other side of the door. Zoltana pushed the door open, her eyes falling on Cedric, who had a gold mask on his face. There was always something dark around him she could never decipher. He had this mysterious vibe around him that made her chill to her bones. Subconsciously, Zoltana knew the ill fate of Abrielle was associated with Cedric, but she dared not voice those thoughts to him. She would rather not be here, but she had to inform him about her findings. "Good afternoon your highness," she said with a faint bow. Cedric nodded at her, and then she rose, her silver eyes meeting those sharp gold eyes that struck terror in her. "Is anything the matter?" Cedric asked her waiting for her to talk. He had a tired expression on his face, Cedric saw the way Zoltana trembled even though she did her best to control. He was used to people acting like this around him. The only person he had met who never trembled in fear was Abrielle, who shockingly was way weaker than him. Even when he could sense fear in her eyes she never trembled like she was challenging him. "Not at all; I wanted to inform you that I have been able to complete the arrangements for the unsealing and even got a more experienced seer to handle it." She explained to Cedric. His eyes flickered, remembering the fact that Abrielle was being drained by the mark he put on her. The mark itself was a mystery to him, and even in the condition she was in, he still didn’t hold back. That gave him a faint sense of guilt. "When do you plan to go ahead?" He enquired. "The next moonless night when the moon goddess is weakest and the holy magic suppressing her is as its weakest." Abrielle’s magic was sealed and suppressed by holy magic, which comes from the moon goddess Nyxoria. To avoid any complications during the unsealing, it was best to do it on a moonless night, which is why Zoltana suggested it. "I understand," Cedric answered then his eyes started to keenly observe Zoltana. She still had something to say. "Just say what is on your mind." Zoltana was taken aback at how Cedric was able to read him. She avoided his gaze. Not only was it rude to meet his gaze for long, but he had a very intimidating presence around him. He was getting colder. "May I ask a question, your Highness?" She requested. Cedric Expression remained stoic, but he allowed her to say what was on her mind. "Go ahead." Taking a deep breath to gather her confidence, she didn’t know why she was asking this question on prying into what she should not, but the visions she had from the day she tried to see through Abrielle had been hunting her. "By any chance, does the mark on the princess’s neck have anything to do with you? Like a bound of a sought." Cedric’s aura went cold, shaking Zoltana to the bones. Cedric instinctively felt protective of the mark. "Why are you interested if it is related to me or not?" He asked; the pressure was so much that Zoltana lost her footing, falling to her knees, yet while she trembled, she still said what was on her mind. It felt like if she didn’t she would be haunted forever. "I don’t know how to explain it but the princess has a tragic fate tied to it. The only way she might avoid it is if you let her go." Just like being poured a pail of cold water, Cedric’s aura immediately disappeared for a moment then doubled.
