Chapter 48: Call me Cedric

Chapter 48: Call me Cedric "Huh," Abrielle stuttered, why did he suddenly bring that up? "I said you should call me Cedric. That’s my name and not your highness." He added taking a bit of his food into his mouth. He had refined manners for someone who spent his entire teenage years on the battlefield "Your Highness I..." "Cedric, it’s not hard to pronounce and it’s least expected we address each other by our first names since we are married, Abrielle." He sharply cut her off. Abrielle was stunned by his insistence, where was this coming from? She wondered. "Okay, Cedric. I will prefer it if we have different rooms. It is a common practice." Abrielle said. "Did your parents have different rooms?" He asked instead, leaving her tongue tied. Where was this coming from? That was what was written all over her face. "Pardon me, Your Highness, sorry I mean Prince Cedric... " "Just Cedric is fine, my name isn’t a curse." He mentioned it with a flat tone. "Fine, Cedric. For starters, we are not my parents and if you want to use that excuse do your parents share a room?" She argued back. "My mother is dead," he deadpanned which left her speechless..what was wrong with her that she forgot the tragic backstory she gave him. "I am sorry about that," Abrielle said then the room went quiet. She still had a lot of say but had ruined the atmosphere. After waiting long enough for the steam to blow off she continued. "Why did you lie about Sarah being dead?" She asked Because she clearly remembered him saying she was dead. "I love the look of horror in your eyes when I informed you she was dead. I didn’t kill her, it didn’t mean she wasn’t punished for her actions but that’s none of your concern." His tone was a bit aggravated but then again he left her speechless. What did he mean by he loved the look of horror in her eyes? "That is an uncanny thing to say, Your Highness but can you reconsider the sleeping arrangements?" She brought up the issue again this time Cedric groaned because she was giving him a headache. He needed her close not only because of her safety but also because of the saying ’Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.’ "Why are you so repulsed by the idea? I did stay 2 weeks by your side, if you are scared of touching you without your permission it’s the last thing I will do." He asked her although he had an idea why. "Your words are not promising remembering what happened on the ship but I understand honestly I don’t mind if you have a mistress but I am not comfortable sharing a room with someone who almost killed me twice on our wedding night." She explained and Cedric almost had the urge to say at least we have something in common. "You don’t mind if I take in a mistress," Cedric emphasized; that was not something he was expecting from her. "Yes, you are of Royal descent and it isn’t weird to have multiple partners so I see no problem in it as long as she stays out is my way." Abrielle quickly answered but from the cold pressure she felt on her shoulders she soon regretted it. That was an odd thing for her to say considering the rumours he heard about her. He took a sharp inhale and the suffocating aura dispersed. "That’s nice to know but my decision about the sleeping arrangements is final, Abrielle." He vaguely mentioned then dropped the cutleries. Cedric reached out for his drink which he took a sip of before dabbing his lips with a napkin. His seat screeched against the marble floor as he got on his feet. "Have a lovely day dear wife." He stated with the intention of leaving the dining room but Abrielle quickly pushed her seat back and then got up to follow behind him. Cedric pulled his brows together not understanding her enthusiasm this morning. She had a lot to say and with how sharp her eyes were she looked like she was ready for a fight. What happened to the fake sweet wife’s appearance? He stopped in his tracks making her walk straight into his back. "Ouch," she whined, rubbing her nose. He turned back to look at her smaller frame as she rubbed her hand on her nose. "Why are you following me?" He asked, sounding tired of this pointless argument. She should hate him and want nothing to do with him. "I still have something to talk about, it’s important." She quickly replied, staring back at his gold eyes, not scared by them most slightly. Cedric didn’t reply so she took it as a chance to continue. "Winter has already started, have the winter hunt invitation been sent?" She asked and Cedric narrowed his eyes on her. "We are not going, if you can excuse me, I have some important matters to handle." He said, there was still the investigation of the Khaos appearance that he hadn’t been paying much attention to as he was by her bedside. "What other important matters can you be handling during our honeymoon?" She scoffed at him as she quickly ran to block his way. A mischievous smile graced his lips then he bent his head as he tilted her eyes to gaze at her. "I have to keep myself busy since I have a reluctant wife." He said then leaned towards her ears to whisper. "Who isn’t ready to share the bed with me or fulfill her marital duties?" "That’s not true and don’t change the topic." Abrielle blurted as her cheeks went red. His lips were still close to her ear with his warm breath fanning against her skin. "Then do you prefer we spend the day cuddling under the sheets together? There are a lot of fun things we can try." He shamelessly said, what happened to modesty she used to describe this world because his character was lacking it. "Let’s not talk about private things here." Abrielle gulped as her throat suddenly went dry for a weird reason. "The location doesn’t matter to me." He added, his thumb gently running over her red lips. "I can teach you more interesting things to do with your mouth." He mischievously said. Abrielle nervously laughed trying to step away but his arm was already on her waist as he pulled her back. "Quit running away, you can’t outrun me." She was very close; she was pressed against his chest; she had to press her hands against his broad masculine chest; she could feel his toned muscles from underneath the fabric that didn’t reduce the heat growing between them. "Can we talk about the winter hunt?" She tried to change the topic. "You have a low resistance to cold and just recovered from a life-threatening situation. The hunt is obviously a bad idea."
