Chapter 21: A game for two Abrielle was so exhausted and deep in sleep that she didn’t sense something on her neck or the blood trickling down. She slowly turned to the other side of the bed and mumbled some rubbish. She was completely vulnerable in her sleep and had no idea of the danger by her side. The voice in Cedric’s head kept on whispering to his ears. "Kill her!" "If you don’t end her she will end you." "No one stands against you and lives." The words kept on echoing in Cedric’s head; his grip on the hilt of the sword tightened, and he raised his hand to cut her neck. He was so close to ending her life because all his senses were telling him that ending her was the best option. How was he going to live with someone who might poison him in his sleep or strangle him to death when he was unaware? He was a monster, but he had never done anything to her before she met him, and yet all she thought about was to kill him. Just before the swords touched her skin, an image of her mischievous scheming smile, when she was bold enough to poison him with a kiss, popped into his head, and his hand froze. He withdrew her hand, and the heavy sword fell from his hand, making clunking sounds on the floor as it fell. Abrielle’s brows furrowed hearing the sound with her eyes fluttering for a short while. In her sleep trance, she was blurring the images of Cedric standing before her bed, but she soon fell asleep again, not caring much about her environment. After the sword fell from his hand, his knees lost strength and he sat on the ground with his bloodstained hands raking through his hair. Her guts never failed to astonish him; after attempting to kill him twice, she was sleeping peacefully on his ship without a care for the world. An evil smile reached his face, one so sinister no one had seen him smile that way. A game was no fun if only one person was to play, she thought she could be the smart one that could kill him when he least expected. He has bad news for her because he was the one best at spilling blood. If she thinks his death could stop this marriage and make her escape from him then she should never have married the devil himself, a monster as he was called from birth. His eyes turned dark as he gazed at her sleeping ever so peacefully. He knew the perfect punishment for her since she wanted to kill him to leave him so bad he wouldn’t grant her wish to him, but the only way to leave this marriage was by death, and it would not be his death. She was still of use to him. The moment he had gathered all the support he needed to get rid of the crown prince and king, his sassy wife would follow after them, and he would make sure she was stuck with him until then. The only one with the right to end her was him. In this killing game of two, he was going to be the winner because she had no idea that she had chosen the worst opponent ever. His eyes fell on her; some of her hair was scattered on her face, with some stuck into her mouth. It seemed like she was eating her hair. Why would someone this weak and fragile think she could end him? From what he knew, the pampered daughter of the Nightshade duchy only had beauty and grace with a vicious heart and no talent. Abrielle was the only descendant of the Nightshade family who was unable to weld holy magic. A fool born from a family of geniuses. ***** A harsh groan left Abrielle’s lips as she slowly woke up. Her entire body was aching from the injuries she obtained due to her failed plan. At least she had learned a very key lesson from yesterday. "Bloody hell." Abrielle cussed as the pain in her body was driving her crazy. "You are a weird one to wake up and the first thing on your mind is a cuss." She heard a deep Baritone voice say from her side, which made her jolt. She sat up, and her eyes fell on her graceful husband, who was leisurely sipping wine with his chin leaning on his palms supported by his elbow on the coffee table. Who drinks this early in the morning? He still had his gold mask on with that annoying cheesy smile that could fool anyone except her. If he thinks Saving her on his whim was enough to change her mind, he better think again. The only reason Cedric needed her alive was because of her family’s support to fight for the throne. Although the king was still alive now and had appointed a crown prince, if, after his death, another member of the royal family got rid of the king and crown prince, the throne would naturally fall into one of the greatest forces from the royal bloodline. The first prince of Darconia, Cedric Von Drakkar. Abrielle ignored the pain in her body and immediately adjusted her sitting position with her eyes glaring at Cedric. She didn’t know what he had done but her guts were warning her he was up to no good. "What are you doing here?" She barked at him. Her hands clutched her bed covers; how could she be so careless to fall asleep when a bloody demon had access to snap her neck at any time? "Admiring my wife’s peaceful face in her sleep while enjoying a bottle of wine." Cedric shrugged, bringing the glass to his lips to sip. Abrielle’s jaw clenched with her hold gripping the covers until her hand turned white. "You can’t just enter my room without an invitation." She said through her gritted teeth, which only made Cedric’s grin widen. "I had no idea that I was forbidden to enter my wife’s chambers when, naturally, we were meant to share the same chambers during our honeymoon period." Cedric casually mentioned while twirling the glass of red wine in his hand. He didn’t care about her glare and was having the time of his life as he gazed through the glass to look at her blue eyes that were glaring fiercely at him. A little kitten with claws thought she could challenge a dragon. "I am unable to share a chamber with you because of my bad sleeping habits " She came up with an excuse because there was no way she would sleep by his side when he could sever her head on a whim in her sleep. "You mean how you chew your hair and kick your feet in your sleep while saying rubbish about how handsome I am. I watched you sleep the entire night, and it was more entertaining than watching an opera." Abrielle’s face went red completely scarlet. She knew she was capable of doing that, but there was no way she praised his looks in her sleep. "I didn’t do anything of that nature. There is no way I will say you are handsome." She lashed out at him, and a strong breeze hit her face as Cedric, who was a few feet away from her, was now in front of her with his gold eyes staring keenly at her and his intoxicating sandalwood scent overwhelming her senses. "Are you trying to say I am not handsome?" He asked her with his face crooked on her neck and those weird sparks spreading all over her skin. His voice was seductively low and her toes curled to control the sensation.
