The carriage got to a halt; a short breath left Abrielle’s lips as she muttered something incoherently; she was feeling nervous all of a sudden. The door was pulled open making the cold mountain breeze blow inside the carriage. Her teeth gnashed against each other as she subconsciously hugged herself; even with the heavy, thick layer of winter coats she was wearing, it was still freezing. "May we?" She heard Cedric chimed, giving her his hand. Abrielle’s heart skipped a beat at his tender tone, and then she was reminded of the sad reality. He was doing this to maintain his appearance. She forced a fake smile which could not be told apart from the natural one. Her gloves hand entered his grasp; there were no sparks, something she was subconsciously looking forward to. Unknown to her it was only through direct skin contact. "Be careful, watch your step. The snow might be slippery," Cedric cautioned her, still keeping the tender tone as he helped her get off the carriage. Sapphire, who watched the entire thing, did her best not to roll her eyes. "Thank you," she expressed her gratitude to him earning a simple nod. "Be careful where you step, the path is a bit slippery." He mentioned as her hand grabbed his arm leaning in. They acted so naturally you would not sense anything off. The footpath was cleared from the snow, but the stones were a bit slippery despite her wearing winter boots. Ignoring the existence of Sapphire, they proceed away from the carriage; Abrielle is extra careful with her steps on the slippy path. From ahead she could already see a young man around the same age as Cedric with silver hair and similar blue eyes as Abrielle. It was her cousin Sebastian Nightshade, the new priest in charge of Mount Lunarias temple. Sebastian smiled softly, approaching the couple. He was the only one waiting, and Abrielle was a bit surprised he went through the trouble to even wait for them. Abrielle’s attention was caught on Sebastian trying to remember something important about him that seemed to have slipped her mind that she accidentally missed a step on the slippery floor. Her heart jumped to her throat, and a short shriek left her mouth. She was yanked forward slamming against Cedric’s chest with his arm wrapped around her waist protectively. "Why is your head always in the clouds?" Cedric scoffed at her, Abrielle’s heart was still beating wildly, her cheeks completely flushed from embarrassment. How could she make sure a silly mistake in front of Sebastian? She was already seen as the family’s disappointment. "Please tell me Sebastian didn’t see me make a fool of myself." She muttered clutching Cedric’s shirt. Next followed a soft baritone but it wasn’t just Cedric that was laughing. "There is no need to be embarrassed, I know the ground can be a bit slippery." Abrielle heard Sebastian chirp, it was different from the voice she remembered from the original Abrielle memories. The last time she saw Sebastian was a couple of years ago when he was a teenager before he was sent to Mount Lunarias to serve as a priest. Sebastian was one the few characters Abrielle got along with in the book; they were playmates as children, and he was the one going to inherit the Nightshade family duchy Vesper due to the fact Abrielle lacked holy magic. She broke apart from Cedric’s hold, her eyes meeting Sebastian’s eyes. "It has been a while," she cleared her throat, giving Cedric some space, clearly still embarrassed about what happened earlier. . "Yes, it has. I am glad you made it safe. The storm yesterday was unexpected." Sebastian mentioned. "Did the others make it up safely?" Cedric asked the priest, his hand reaching out to hold Abrielle. "Some people did go missing including princess Ophelia. Last night, a small group led by the crown prince went to find them, but there is no word yet."
