Chapter 32: He killed her The path was brown as it was covered with several fallen brown leaves. The servant had raked it earlier on, but this was Autumn when they shed their leaves. Cedric held Abrielle’s little hands in his hold as they strolled towards the stables; it would have been a quiet, romantic walk if it wasn’t for a psychopath who was holding her hand. His hands were rough evidence of his experience on the battlefield. After all, he was tossed to survive the gruesome world of war at the tender age of 14. Walking with Cedric at this moment seemed peaceful, but Abrielle was on her guard; this psychopath could flip at any moment without the slightest indication of why. How she wished divorce was possible, but in this world, the only thing that can separate a marriage is death, especially a royal marriage. Most royals who get sick of their wife normally frame them with treason to get them executed. So if Cedric found the slightest evidence of her attempted murders her head would be gone. He asked her which caused her to frown. "Nothing," she quickly answered. There was no way she could say. ’ I was dreading my fate that I am married to the ruthless villain of the book I wrote with the only way to survive the plot was to kill you, the villain I wrote has a very tragic backstory. I am the reason your life is fucked up.’ "I have been talking to you for a bit now and your head was up in the clouds. I even asked you a question." Cedric mentioned and her brows pulled together. He was talking to her, but when? She could swear she didn’t hear him. "Sorry, I was lost in a daze. What did you ask about?" She inquired. Cedric released a tired sigh; why did he have the feeling she was probably thinking about the next way to kill him? "I asked which horse you would ride on," Cedric answered her and her eyes went wide. That was when she realized they had gotten to the stables. "I don’t know if any of them would like me," Abrielle mentioned as her eyes darted around the stable filled with horses. Her nose scrunched up as the pungent smell of horse droppings assaulted her nostrils. "Bring the most gentle horse you have for the princess," Cedric instructed the stable boy who was already by their side, eagerly waiting for instructions. The stable boy, who was in his teens, quickly left to carry out the instructions given to him. Shortly, the boy returned with a brown horse; it was a young horse, from her guess. A pretty mare. "This is Belinda; she has been here since birth." The stable boy introduced Belinda to Abrielle, who was wary of the horse, but she gently reached out to her head, and Belinda was as gentle as the stable boy described.. While she was petting Belinda, another horse as dark as the night. It was a very tall horse, and as expected, it was Cedric’s. At first glance, the annoying horse didn’t like Abrielle as he snorted at her face, making Cedric laugh. "Sorry for his behaviour, he doesn’t like a lot of people," Cedric mentioned that Abrielle was stunned, one, he apologized, and two, he had a tender gaze in his eyes while looking at the horse. "It’s fine," Abrielle said dryly. Cedric mounted his horse while waiting for Abrielle who had some issues mounting Belinda but was too stubborn to ask for help. In the end, the stable boy tried to help her under Cedric’s sharp gaze. "Let’s go," Cedric said as he kicked his horse to sprint away leading the way. Due to the previous memories of the owner of this body, Abrielle didn’t have any issues catching up with him, although it seemed like he was running a bit slow. They rode to the nearby woods close to The Castle, racing each other, although Cedric was moving slowly so that she would not be too far off. Everything was brown due to autumn but the air was refreshing. Abrielle followed behind Cedric until they arrived at a cliff. Just the sight of the cliff gave her a bad feeling. Cedric was close to the edge as he looked back at Abrielle, who didn’t want to come anywhere close to that cliff. Cedric and a cliff didn’t seem like a good combination. "Are you scared?" He asked me. It was obvious she was scared. "I am scared of heights and you. That’s an awful combination." Abrielle admitted which made Cedric smile. "If you feel uncomfortable we can head back. There was something I wanted to show you but you wouldn’t dare come any closer. " He sighed then pulled his horse towards Abrielle. Abrielle reluctantly followed him blindly, she had to be obedient to be able to ask him about Sarah. "Come on Belinda." She urged her horse to run and follow behind him. "Cedric, can I ask you a question?" She asked him. "No, I know whatever it is I won’t like it." He deadpanned before finding out what she wanted to know but she wasn’t going to give up so easily. "Please, can I find out about what happened to Sarah, the maid I swapped places with?" She pleaded, ignoring how he refused to agree to her question. Cedric stopped his horse and then drew in a sharp breath before glancing over his shoulders to look at his vicious wife. Why did she have to bring that up and remind him that she attempted to get him assassinated? "She is dead; anyone who goes against me only has one fate. Death." Cedric replied, and Abrielle’s face went pale. What did she expect? There was no way he would keep Sarah alive. He was a tyrant for a reason. This reminded her of the reason she had to escape him by all means.
