Chapter 155: Brazen maid A crescent moon hung up in the sky, casting a slow glow on the never-ending stretch of white environs covered with snow. Cedric’s horse stopped in front of the castle after crossing the gates. It has been a long night, way past midnight; the sun would be hitting the sky in a few hours. He got off his horse and handed the reins to Elias. Cedric’s eyes darted around taking notice of the guards patrolling the perimeter. From his face to his clothes was smeared with blood, some dripping from his fingertip. "Is there any other thing you require my assistance for, your Highness?" Elias asked. Cedric was too exhausted to even answer that question, he was spent after having a long night. It was a long killing spree. He was sure he looked like a monster that rose from the depths of hell. "See you in the morning." The sounds of horses’ hooves galloping away rang around, and he stood alone there. He was about to continue inside when he felt someone’s gaze on him. Instinctively, he looked in the direction of a window leading to the attic. A small frown etched on his brows as he caught the sight of someone running from the window. It was far away and a blurred image, so he didn’t see who it was. He was in doubt, wondering if it was an illusion because the attic wasn’t accessible, so why would someone be there? His curiosity was tugged, wondering who it was, but he was too exhausted to embark on any adventure in the dark. It might even be a ghost and he wanted to get himself out of these bloody clothes He shrugged off the feeling and then headed into the castle, his footsteps leaving bloody marks as he made his way inside his chambers. He ran into Evelyn, who was still awake, roaming the castle. "You should go to bed," Cedric suggested seeing the assassins who served as the personal maid of his wife. Evelyn was startled to suddenly hear Cedric’s voice from behind her. She was completely endorsed in what she was doing with her guard down. "Your Highness, you are back." She stuttered, almost falling the lantern in her hand. Cedric’s brows furrowed at her actions, she quickly straightened up. "Sorry about that, I was investigating something. That maid Zoltana, who is particularly close to the princess, seemed to have disappeared into thin air again, " Evelyn mentioned with her eyes narrowing suspiciously. "It is weird for people to skip your radar, Cassandra," Cedric mentioned; Evelyn stiffened hearing him address her by her birth name. No one had called her that in ages after she was sold. She took in the image of Cedric and realized that he was covered in blood. There was the strong metallic smell of blood coming from him. She wasn’t affected by his look; Cedric does have bad days. He comes back like this, but it has been a while since he got married. "Do you need me to send some wine to the bathhouse?" She asked him. Cedric nodded. The wine did sound great, although he craved something better;r; unfortunately, his greed could not be fulfilled tonight. "Maybe you can send someone else to send it while you continue your search," Cedric mentioned walking past her; he wasn’t bothered by Zoltana because he knew Zoltana wasn’t dumb enough to do something stupid. Evelyn stood a bit, watching his back disappear after he took a turn at the end of the hallway. Her nose cringed up at the bloody trail he left behind. She felt bad for the maid designated to clean these parts. "Something must have happened at the banquet." She muttered saying the obvious. ******* Cedric pushed the door open, walking into the bathhouse that was filled with steam as the water continued to circulate in the pool. He walked closer to the water’s surface, stripping off his clothes until he was bare. He washed off the blood stains on his body using the water left in a pail before he took a dip in the pool, his muscles relaxing as the soothing warm water helped his muscles release. He didn’t know how long he stood in the pool, resting against the edge with his eyes closed, until he heard the doors open. Cedric didn’t bother to check who it was because he was expecting a maid to send over some wine to him. "Drop it and leave immediately," Cedric instructed his back against the entrance. His black hair, as dark as the night, was completely wet and sticky to his body, some on his face, but he didn’t care to move it while his body glistened with water drops, at least from the parts above the water. His stomach region downwards was underwater. He was indeed a masterpiece for seduction. He didn’t have his mask on at the moment but it would be hard to see his face from that distance in all this steam. There was a rule in this castle: never look at the prince’s face if he didn’t have his mask on. The person stepped in and carefully closed the door so as not to startle the prince. Her eyes were drawn to his figure, his broad masculine shoulders and back that were exposed to view. Despite the low visibility, she was sure he was gorgeous. A shy red tint glowed on her face thinking about it. "Here is your wine, your Highness," she said, dropping the bottle and glass close to Cedric while bowing her head. He didn’t answer her. She stepped back and then glanced at the door; a crazy brave thought popped into her head that she should not have. "Your Highness, may I fill your glass?" She requested; Cedric frowned, his eyes slowly opening. He was confused as to why she was still there. His back was still against her as he answered. "I can pour my wine myself. Your services are not needed." She should have taken the hint and left but she brazenly wanted to push her luck. "I find it hard to leave Your Highness this way. You are drained and need the touch of a woman; please let me serve you tonight, and I am ready to give my first time to you."
