Chapter 164: Good or bad news? The storm in the mountains was not showing any sign of stopping any time soon. Being late to the winter prayers was the least of worries to the group from Cedric’s household. Princess Abrielle had lost consciousness with no clue of what was wrong with her and the physician was taking forever. Zoltana was wracking her brains trying to remember if she had sensed anything wrong with the princess recently. There was nothing in particular that came to her mind. Abrielle always had this strange energy around her Zoltana linked to being related to Cedric. She never understood why. She felt Abrielle’s condition was related to Cedric, but she didn’t want to jump to conclusions yet. It was better to wait for the doctor. The door finally opened its creaking sound drawing everyone’s attention. An elderly man with a short beard stepped out, and under normal conditions, Cedric would not have let him attend to Abrielle, but the situation did not let him be picky. The physician walked up to the prince with a stoic expression, but from his calm eyes, Cedric knew something was wrong. He released a sharp sigh before his lips parted to speak. "The princess’s condition is now stable, but I advise her to keep away from any situation that will cause her stress, anxiety or shock. Those were the factors that catalysed her condition. " His explanation even made Cedric feel more uncertain knowing there was something the doctor was not mentioning. "What is the true cause? This is the first time I have heard those factors causing someone severe abdominal pain to the point of loss of consciousness." Cedric might not be a physician, but he is a prince who was also a scholar and had an idea about several things that might even be irrelevant to him. The physician cleared his throat, feeling nervous standing in front of Cedric. "Well, that is the bad news. Unfortunately, we were unable to save the baby. The stressful conditions led to a miscarriage that caused the princess to..." The physician felt his words go back to his throat sensing the atmosphere of the room. Cedric looked horrified like he heard something dreadful combined with shock. "Baby, which baby are you talking about?" Sapphire, who was in the room down the hallway leaning close to the door to eavesdrop on the conversation, was beyond shocked to realize that Abrielle just had a miscarriage, but soon, a soft smile graced. There was a belief the people had that once a woman’s first pregnancy is a miscarriage, the chances of the next one being a miscarriage were high. "You had no idea the princess is roughly a month to 6 weeks pregnant?" The physician enquired; Cedric took a step back, too stunned to react. That was roughly the time of the winter hunt; he didn’t know if he should be sad, mad or happy about the fact she lost a pregnancy he had no idea of. "Will it be safe for her to travel anytime soon?" Cedric asked knowing they had to go to the mountains for the winter prayers. "Yes, she can travel. Just make sure the carriage is stable. You mentioned something about motion sickness; by tomorrow, she will be strong enough to travel. Just make sure she gets enough rest and eats enough nutrients, and in no time, you might be expecting another baby." The physician went ahead to explain more details to Evelyn and Zoltana whose task is to take care of Abrielle. Cedric had a lot on his chest and needed to cool off a bit. He didn’t even get noticed when he left the inn. The prince had rented the entire place for the night. He disappeared into the storm, the only one that seemed to have noticed was Sapphire from her window. The members of Cedric’s household were on the edge, wary of how this news would affect them. Cedric was a switch that was hard to predict. Hours later the storm seemed to have calmed down a bit with the sky clearing up. A lone figure was seen approaching the busy inn. The innkeepers were excited offering their best to the guests that paid a fortune. Sapphire stood close to the entrance wearing a coat. It was freezing outside, but she stood strong, waiting for him. Her red eyes sparkled once she spotted the prince’s tall figure. "I thought you wouldn’t return tonight," Sapphire chirped, stopping Cedric’s, whose gaze was indecipherable. "Why are you waiting here?" He asked her. His voice was exhausted. "What do you think? I never expected the Tyrant of Darconia would break over the loss of an unborn baby." Sapphire scoffed, folding her arms under her bosom and giving Cedric a challenging look. She was a sassy one. Cedric actually chuckled, finding her actions amusing. "I don’t need a foreign princess waiting for me. I have a wife who can do that and I don’t have to explain my actions to you. I advise you to avoid me as much as you can." He snickered, then walked past her. Sapphire was an adamant one she followed behind. "I know why you are worried, and honestly, there is no need to be. If Abrielle can’t carry your heir I am more than willing to be a second wife." Sapphire offered, she knew no man could refuse her. She was powerful and beautiful. Men were all the same, keeping women as tools. "You are a brave one to think I would want you to carry my baby. The storm is cleared out. You should rest because we are setting out before the sun hits the sky." Cedric answered, brushing her off. Sapphire’s hands curled up into a fist, and she barked at him. "Why are you pretending like you don’t care? I know you want a child, not just a child but someone who is truly yours, a true family, and not a talentless noble daughter who can’t handle the task. Stop refusing me. Not only will I sire your heirs but I can make you king. I can give you both a family you can trust and a kingdom where no one would want your head." Sapphire bravely said. Honestly, it was a lovely proposition and part of the reason he married Abrielle for what she could offer, but having a family was never part of the plan. Cedric’s original plan was to get rid of the rebellious wife once he had his goals. "Brave of you to think I am sad because that monster died. It was barely two months and was draining her. You are smart, Sapphire, but at times, beinoo smart is not an advantage."
