Chapter 12: Suspiciously too nice Abrielle's hands were indeed shaking in Cedric's hands. She was scared of the devil, she tried her best to control her facial expression but her body gave her out. "I didn't do anything wrong, it is freezing out here." She came with the first lie her head could think of leaving Cedric a bit stunned. She was a good liar because the weather was a bit cold but she should be warm under all the layers she was wearing. "I am sorry but you just have to bear with it. The trip will not be too long." Cedric replied, giving Abrielle the illusion he believed her, but her guard was still up. There was no way she would believe him. Cedric personally pulled a seat for Abrielle. She narrowed her eyes at him as she took her seat. He was suspiciously nice for someone she attempted to poison. Cedric smiled charmingly at her as he took his seat opposite her on the circular table they were set for breakfast. The dishes were already piping hot. The kitchen probably thought they had a long night yesterday. "How was your night? You look like you didn't have any sleep." Cedric started a conversation. Abrielle pursed her lips from being left horny to bumping her shoulders on the bed and having a long sleepless night. Her night was horrible. "The night was cold, and I felt lonely after your Highness left and couldn't sleep because I was worried about you." Abrielle lied so naturally that the goddess would collapse from her lies. The next plan is to act like a caring wife so that he would be less suspicious of her while she thinks of ways to get rid of him. Cedric smiled at her. She didn't know if he believed her or not, but it was a good sign. "I am glad you missed me during the night, it makes me glad that my runaway bride now has a change of heart." He replied the maid was helping them serve the first course on their plates. Abrielle gave a wary look at the meals. Although they looked appetizing, what if they were poisoned? After all, he was the devil. "I realized after you almost snapped my neck that we are stuck together so we should at least make this marriage bearable for each other," Abrielle replied, half laughing with her sharp tongue. She could not say straight forward that Cedric choked her to death. Cedric picked up his Cutleries and started cutting his bites while Abrielle stared at the food. She was famished, but she didn't trust him. He should have suffered the gruesome side effects of the poisons, but instead, he was smiling at her. "Are you trying to accuse me of attempting to kill my wife?" He shot Abrielle with an accusatory look. His eyes looked hurt and everyone would think that he was being wrong. Her hands subconsciously clenched, but she tried to keep a fake smile; this was a battle of words. "I would never say that. Your Highness is such a wonderful person that he left our wedding chamber early in consideration for me." Abrielle gasped speaking like a virtuous wife while hinting Cedric was impotent. Cedric's face changed into a dry smile. He understood what she was hinting at. Her sharp tongue was fascinating, she was saying he was impotent. "I had to leave because something felt weird with the wine, didn't you sense something was odd." Cedric acted oblivious and Abrielle was the one with a nervous expression now. He knows of the poison. So that was why he left halfway. In the end, her poison saved her. "I didn't sense anything off about it." "I guess it was just me then. " He nodded and then glanced at Abrielle; she shrank under his sharp gold eyes. "Why are you not eating? You don't have to be suspicious about it being poisoned, you have more value to me alive than dead." He pointed out and Abrielle's eyes went out. "I will never think that you will poison me. I have bad shoulders after hitting against the bed frame." Abrielle lied smoothly picking up her cutleries. Cedric observed her movement and observed her shoulders were indeed stiff. Last night was strange, and he couldn't stop thinking about what happened, and it was all because of his wife. Each second, she got more interesting, but she was just to pass the time before he would eventually kill her and the Nightshade family, who are the King's supporters and his biggest nemesis. The meal was pleasant, and Abrielle enjoyed almost every part of it except for the fact that Cedric barely ate and was staring keenly at her like his new amusement. Was he immune to poison? She wondered because her poison was one in which she was the only one with the antidote even in the original plot when she poisoned the female lead. Cedric and the male lead had to force her to release the antidote when they found out she was behind the poisoning. Cedric didn't even bat an eye to point a sword at his wife's neck because of his obsession with the female lead. Halfway through the meal, Cedric signalled a male servant to get something for him. The servant arrived shortly with an ivory box he placed next to Abrielle's plate, then politely withdrew. Abrielle dropped her cutleries and then dabbed her lips with a napkin before picking up the box. She opened it to find out it contained a couple's wedding rings. In Darconia, rings are exchanged privately between the couple after their first night, and Cedric left last night on short notice. It turned out he didn't forget. "They are beautiful." Abrielle honestly said Cedric rose from his seat and worked up to her side. "Yes, they are beautiful, but it doesn't hold a candle to your beauty." He complimented her again for the second time today, making her blush. He was acting too nice for someone she had failed to kill. "May I?" He stretched forth his hands for her. Abrielle's placed her left hand that had a tattoo on it due to the wedding ritual. The ring was golden encrusted with red spinels and a very rare red diamond in the middle. It has a narrow band for hers, and Cedric's band was wider. Cedric slipped the ring on her finger covering the ring tattoo on her hand. "It is a perfect fit." Abrielle chimed admiring the ring. She requested his hand and also slipped the ring on his finger according to the costume. This was another painful reminder she was married to the villain. Cedric's voice chirped from beside her breaking her line of thoughts. "We will make a fast stop at the town of Moonstone Harbour. You should enjoy your breakfast." Cedric mentioned then walked away. Abrielle was thrown into thought, what was his plan? Was he trying to assassinate her on shore? She could not afford to let her guard down for a second around him.
