Chapter 173: Little mouse The halls were quiet, the time was already past midnight. The sky had cleared up a bit since the storm, and the moon could be seen, although it was not completely full. It will be in a few days. . Abrielle didn’t know exactly where Callista’s room was, but she overheard Evelyn when she was talking to Elias that the priestess’s room was on the royal wing because she was a guest of the crown prince. Well, there was a short story for that, Callista was receiving death threats which Lucian suspects to be from the castle but later in the book it was a grander scheme related to her roots from the temple but that isn’t Abrielle’s story so who cares definitely not the villainess that was walking aimlessly down the halls. "It should be around here," Abrielle muttered; it seemed like she had done what she was best at: getting lost. But she was sure this was where Evelyn mentioned. The east wing then make a couple of turns, or did she miss a turn? Regardless, she still continued; she didn’t want to return to her room yet. From a distance, Abrielle heard voices she found familiar coming from the next turn. It was the queen, and Normally Abrielle would not want to get involved with anything related to Eleanor, but the villainess’s interest was intrigued when she heard Cedric’s name being mentioned. "This is getting harder than I imagined. I should have gotten rid of the mouse when it was still a baby." She heard someone say in a hushed tone, which Abrielle recognized to be Eleanor. She was whispering to her ladies about how Cedric had blatantly insulted her in court earlier and the fight that happened today. They were coming closer, and Abrielle was certain that it would be trouble if she was seen, so she searched for the nearest door. She reached out for the handle and slowly opened it hoping Eleanor would not hear the creaking sound of the door from afar. She quickly ran in and leaned against the door hoping to hear something important. The voices got closer, and the footsteps and soft clicking sounds of Eleanor’s heels stopped along with someone who was not talking, but from the numerous footsteps, she was sure there was someone else. Obviously, Eleanor was not talking to herself. "I think the best way to get rid of him is by trial; what if we get him involved in an atrocious act and then charge him with treason," Eleanor suggested. Abrielle’s eyes narrowed. This was interesting, but she doubted it would work. "You mean we should frame him? That is brazen, Your Majesty. Up till now, we haven’t openly attacked Cedric. Although his image is already ruined to the public without a doubt, he is considered a powerhouse of the nation." The other person finally said, her voice sounding mature. It was an elderly woman. "I know how strong he is, and I can’t believe the son of that slut is so strong. His presence gives me goosebumps." Eleanor scoffed, their footsteps started moving again and the door handle clicked. Abrielle’s eyes went wide realizing that they wanted to come into the room. Her eyes quickly darted around the room that smelled like an old book. Surprised, her eyes widened in astonishment that it was a library. Quickly she ran away from the door to hide within the shelves. The door was pushed open and the voices became louder. Abrielle tried to peek over to the door and confirmed they were 3 people. Eleanor, one of her ladies in waiting and an elderly lady who was dressed like a priestess. Her eyes narrowed, remembering the plot, Lucian had connections in the temple that tumbled the Nightshade family’s control over the temple. "It is just a matter of time, your majesty, the stars never lie. He might be strong, but all I see around him is darkness, a fate so dark that even the Brightest light can’t help it." The priestess mentioned. This conversation was getting more interesting. They were talking about Cedric’s fate. Abrielle wondered if they had a premonition that Cedric was meant to ruin himself in the end. The small group continued walking forward into the dimly lit library. The priestess took Eleanor to a small sitting area deeper in the library, making it hard for Abrielle to eavesdrop on the conversation, so she had to move closer, hiding within the shelves. She was careful not to make a sound as she approached them; her attention was so focused on her footsteps that she failed to notice she was about to knock something off with her elbow. Abrielle didn’t even know what exactly she knocked out until the loud clanking sounds of metal hitting the floor rang loudly in the library alerting everyone. The priestess froze and then nervously glanced at the queen before approaching the source of the sound. Abrielle ran to hide behind a curtain, holding her breath, hoping not to be caught. "Is anyone there?" The priestess asked as if Abrielle was dumb enough to reveal herself. The priestess got to the spot, surprised not to see anything except an old metal bowl that was knocked off on the floor. "How did you get there?" She mentioned picking up the bowl to place it back in its original spot. Suddenly, the windows rattled as a strong wind blew inside, causing the priestess to shiver. She quickly walked up to the window that was left open, "is anything wrong?" She heard Eleanor ask from afar. "The window was left open so it knocked off an item from the shelf." The priestess replied walking closer to the curtains Abrielle was hiding behind. She closed the window and pulled the curtains to cover it up. Abrielle almost screamed because the priestess was standing in front of her. "What are you doing there little one?" She asked, looking in Abrielle’s direction, who was frozen from the fright. A lump formed in her throat, her lips slowly parting. Something unexpected happened: the priestess squatted down then said. "This is the special wing. If any of the guests see a mouse, they will kill you." She said, puzzling Abrielle, who clearly was not a mouse.
