Chapter 194: She isn’t jealous The room was lit by candles; the sun had already set, and it was dark outside. In a large dining room that could host a large number only two were seated at the table At first glance, it seemed like they were having a pleasant meal. Well, at least Alfonso was enjoying his meal, but the same could not be said about Abrielle. "If your intentions are to make me feel jealous. You have failed greatly at that, Cedric is more than free to take in a mistress or wife. If a princess deems herself low enough to be a second wife, who am I to stop her? I guess you might not understand me since your mother was a princess comfortable with the thought of being the third wife." It was an obvious Jab. This would have offended Alfonso but he found it amusing. She was a bit ticked off by his earlier statement. The more she acted, the more she didn’t care about proof she did. He laughed off, his eyes were a bit dead. His assumption of Abrielle’s and Cedric’s relationship was not how it seemed. It was clear Cedric favoured Callista more than Abrielle, and from how hesitant she was about marriage at first, it was safe to assume this was a completely loveless marriage. There is a chance things were not that way. Did she start to develop feelings after being married for months but still act like she didn’t care? Whatever was the case it didn’t matter to him. He has come across women who were head over heels for their husbands, but yet there was always a crack. It took 2 to love and Cedric didn’t seem like he was going to acknowledge Abrielle’s feelings soon. Alfonso’s reasoning was influenced by his prejudice. He didn’t want to see a scenario where they loved each other for selfish reasons. He knows that just like other royal marriages in public they are forced to put a front that they care about each other. "Only a few women would accept that. Cedric must be a lucky man to have such an accepting wife." He chimed, not sounding offended. Abrielle pouted she was not expecting this reaction. "I am one in a million." She took a sip of her wine to help her food slide down her throat properly. "More like the only one to exist. A Nightshade with no affinity for magic." He jabbed back. It seemed like a retort to her earlier statement. Abrielle hissed at his words, now she was the one chuckling. "I wonder what those ladies see in you. You have a talent for getting under my skin." "Maybe they appreciated my bluntness." ****** The most unappetizing meal Abrielle had ever had since coming to this world finally came to an end. Unfortunately, she knew this wasn’t the last time she would be seeing Alfonso; he was going to keep on blackmailing her with his presence. It was snowing lightly and Abrielle could not wish for spring to come any sooner for a lot of reasons. She was nice enough to walk Alfonso out. He had actually come on horseback. "I hope you don’t freeze to death riding back ." She wished him. "Why does it feel like you mean the opposite of that?" He asked knowing fully well she was being sarcastic. "You are indeed smart. I would love it more than everything if you pay more attention to your several mistresses and get out of my hair. " Abrielle snapped; her tone was low, and the maids were watching at a distance behind. "I would be nicer if I were you. I am not getting out of your hair any time soon and there is nothing you can do about it." He retorted. A knight from Alfonso’s palace who had accompanied him brought over his horse, handing over the reins. It was an ash stallion. The horse neighed, recognizing its owner. "I would also be nicer if you keep your distance and don’t come uninvited again. You are ruining my reputation, I am married to your brother. The last thing I need is to be known as Alfonso’s mistress." Abrielle snickered at him. Alfonso kept his smile as he climbed over his horse. "If I come invited there won’t be a problem." He mentioned earning a sharp glare at her. It was cold and the weather was already catching up on her. Her nose was red and those blue eyes looked like they were going to pop up any time soon. "You won’t agree regardless, I will see you next time. My dear Abrielle." He declared and then drew his horse’s reign. "I am not your dear Abrielle and there can’t be a next time..." Abrielle snapped. He was already gone before she could snap at him. How annoying. His galloping horse hooves hitting against the snow were already distant and fading away. She stomped her feet and rushed back inside the castle. This family was insufferable to handle. The night drew, and it was soon time for Abrielle to go to bed. She was resting her back against her headboard while Yuki was curled by her side. In the absence of Cedric, nothing was keeping the fur ball away from staying in her room and even getting on her bed. Abrielle was going through some notes she took during her last training session with Zoltana. It seemed more like science notes than magic notes. She groaned, closing the book; it was hard to concentrate. She was disturbed by something that Alfonso mentioned. Cedric had sent word back. Why was she bothered that he didn’t send word to her? She picked up Yuki to place on her lap. Running her hands through his fur gave her a sense of comfort. If Cedric had sent a letter to Kaiden, it meant he also wrote one for Callista, just like in the novel. During his journey, Cedric kept in touch with his lover, and this infuriated the original Abrielle. The plot still had a strong influence and this truly troubled her.
