Chapter 36: Waiting for good news Abrielle’s horse arrived at the castle, and she was immediately welcomed by a knight. "There is a Khoas in the forest." She informed the Knights. She had to act like she cared a bit to look like a good wife, at least. "What is a khaos doing in this parts?" Elias muttered as he helped Abrielle off the horse. "Don’t worry Cedric will be fine." He said although he had a feeling Abrielle could care less if her husband survived or not. She nodded at him, and Elias signalled some guards to come over. "Get the princess to safety." He instructed then Abrielle was taken away into the castle. Her thoughts were wandering all over the place. She could not help but think about Cedric. Without a doubt, she knew he was going to die. What was going through that psycho’s head that he decided to face such a monster that was considered unstoppable? Khoas was one of the biggest threats in the novel, which the male lead had a difficult time fighting; he fought the entire night and almost died if the female lead had shown up to save him in the nick of time. Abrielle was taken to the underground safe house in the basement. There were several safe houses within the tunnel, but a separate one was given to her since she was the princess. The got to the basement, and stopped in front of an old torch that was burning. The torch was blown off the twisted making a creaking noise. Dust was falling from the cracks as the wall shook then a secret passage was reviewed. Two guards and a maid followed her to escort her through the dark tunnel that was lit by the soft golden light of the candles. It was cold and dimly lit with their footsteps echoing throughout the endless passage. Abrielle didn’t say a thing and just followed. She was so far away from the surface that she couldn’t hear the deafening growls but the ground was trembling. Goosebumps crawled down her skin, and the ominous feeling of the dark, lonely tunnels. After walking a bit they arrived at an old metal door. "We are here," The guards said, then pulled out a bunch of keys that clanked against each other. He stuck it into the keyhole and then turned it to unlock the door. The old metal door rattled and creaked before slowly opening. Dust was coming out from the cracks. The heavy door was pushed open and Abrielle was ushered inside. "You will stay here until everywhere is safe enough. We will be at the door to stand guard." One of the guards explained then closed the door behind her. "Is there anything you need, my Highness? Although the food might not be enticing they are still some emergency stock kept in the store." The maid explained to Abrielle whose eyes were darting around the dimly lit room. There were some candles and, surprisingly, a fireplace that was burning. It seemed like everything was already prepared before she was sent here. "Is there any wine?" She asked the maid as she slowly made her way to a fireplace. The room was still a bit chilly since it was underground and in the middle of autumn. The winter was very close. "I will check the store." The maid answered and then walked up to some cabinets at the far end of the room. The room was not as large as the master bedroom, but it was still comfortable. The was a large bed, comfy chairs, shelves etc. It was arranged to provide a sense of comfort but Abrielle’s attention was solely on the fireplace. She needed to get herself some warmth. She pulled off her gloves and then rubbed her hands against each other as she sat down. The room was clean and free from dust. It made her wonder if the maids had cleaned this room every day. "Here is the wine you requested." The maid said placing a clean wine glass on the small table beside her. "Should I pour out some? The wine is aged and probably highly alcoholic." The maid enquired, giving a non-verbal affirmation and waving off to her. Her attention was drawn back to the fireplace as she watched the flames crackle; it seemed peaceful for her despite whatever chaos was going on out there. The red liquid was poured out of the bottle into the glass until it was almost filled. The ground trembled, causing the glass to shift and shatter on the floor, pouring out the content. Luckily, none had spilt on her, but shattered glass was a bad omen. What did it mean? Was Cedric going to survive? "Sorry, your Highness, I will quickly clean and get another glass." The maid anxiously left to get rid of the shards. "Don’t think much Abrielle." She muttered to herself. To push back her thoughts. There was no way Cedric would survive. She should be celebrating that her fate was changed without her trying much. She made herself comfortable by the fireplace while she waited for the maid to clean up the mess. It was a shame such good wine was wasted. Abrielle was already imagining how she was going to spend all the money she would get from Cedric when all his estate would be transferred to her as his windowed wife. "I should get a lot of purple dress to celebrate." She muttered half laughing. The maid brought another glass for her, then offered it to her which she accepted. Abrielle brought the aged wine to her nose to enjoy the aroma. The perfect wine to celebrate. Although Cedric had saved her life twice he was a psycho that would have eventually killed her. All she has to do is wait for the good news. ’ I have to practice how to cry.’ she thought. Despite how everything was going great, Abrielle had a feeling things might not go to plan. She sipped the wonderful wine while silently praying. She awaited the news of Cedric’s death, which was unavoidable, or so she thought.
