Chapter 59: Not so weak

Chapter 59: Not so weak This was the first time she needed Cedric not to die, she didn’t know which monster was attacking from the poor lighting but she was sure of one thing: if he died she had no chance of surviving that monster. The arrows were released, and Abrielle had marksmanship, a skill she honed in her early days when her father made her accompany him to hunt. As the only child her parents made sure she was well-rounded. In honesty, she had a perfect life with her doom being that she was involved with a main character. The arrow sliced through the darkest, before it was released she tried to focus on the sound. "Please make my main true Nyxoria." She muttered a prayer to the moon goddess. A loud shriek echoed, the arrow had successfully marked its target giving Cedric enough time to get hid ground. His gold eyes shone in the dark and he could see the monster writhing in pain and Abrielle standing in a corner as she trembled in fear. That was a lucky shot but it only aggravated the monster more. Cedric used the opportunity to charge at it with his blade. It was a serpent-like monster that was several metres long with long legs. Cedric Aimed for the leg. His movements were nimble like a true predator and with one swipe of his blade, the leg was gone. The monster screamed in agony with his large body hitting the narrow walls of the cave. He was about to charge again but realized something was wrong. The walls were shaking and the cave would collapse soon. He changed his course for Abrielle instead who had her ears covered, unable to stand the loud shrieking noise. He pulled her hands urging her to run. "The cave is about to collapse." Cedric pulled and ran deeper into the cave, the wraven seemed to have recovered from the pain of Cedric’s attacks as its leg grew back and it screamed lunging towards them. Abrielle’s feet ran as fast as they could to avoid the rumbles from the cave ceiling while running behind Cedric. The raven whipped its rail at them and Cedric swiftly carried her in his arms avoiding the hit. He jumped over to the other side. The tail struck against the cave wall blocking their way ahead. The raven quickly spun around whipping his tail around as it screamed. "Stay here." He whispered to her as he placed her on the ground because he seemed to be left with no choice. Unshielded his blade again he expertly avoided the rubbles and jumped for the head. With a single movement, the Wraven’s head fell on the floor but it was still alive for a moment. His movements were quick like he teleported towards Abrielle’s side and the last deafening scream of the monster rang and the walls start caving in falling on the monster’s body. The ground trembled slightly and the floor parted causing them including the Wraven body to fall. The fall was high but Cedric was sure they would survive because of the scent of wet soil he perceived there was a river underneath them. "Hold your breath." He warned her knowing she would need it. Their bodies plunged into the cold river that flowed underground along with several debris. Abrielle screamed so loud her throat went sore. She clung onto Cedric like he was her lifeline until they were immersed in the water. She wasn’t a good swimmer which Cedric was aware of so he had to take control to avoid any rocks falling on them. He swam to the surface and let the fast current carry them. They both drew in a deep breath as the river ran fast in the underground tunnels until they were washed ashore by the current. Abrielle was cold and tired with all her arrows lost in the river. It was pitched black indicating they were still in the labyrinth of tunnels. She stumbled on the floor with her legs giving up and her entire shaking because of the cold. Cedric’s eyes darted around the cave, understanding the situation; he had been here before but had no idea of such an underground labyrinth. Abrielle lay on the ground while catching her breath. Cedric’s footsteps approached her just stopping a foot away. He squatted, his palm reaching out for her forehead. There was a slight frown on his face which she couldn’t see. The only thing her eyes caught were his gold eyes. The Von Drakkar family were famed for their descent from dragons making them have exceptional physical and magic abilities. But Abrielle felt Cedric had something to hide after the Khaos attack; he was stronger than she envisioned him. Seeing there were some anomalies different from the plot her instincts told her that he was not the Cedric she wrote in her novel, possibly he was more dangerous. "At this rate, you might catch a cold." He said with a worried tone. "What are we going to do?" Abrielle asked about their situation as she struggled to sit up. "The attack injured me earlier, I am sure there is a way out of the tunnels but we just have to continue but there might still be a storm outside," Cedric explained walking away from her to gather some wood to make a torch. Immediately the torch lit Abrielle could see the labyrinth they were stuck inside This seemed pretty hopeless. "Make sure to not stray away," Cedric instructed, handing the torch over to her as he unshielded his sword. They continued inside the tunnels, the deeper they went the colder it got and it seemed Abrielle could not continue. Her legs grew heavy, she stumbled on a twig almost falling. Cedric sensed her weakened state and stopped to check up on her. "Are you alright?" He asked but it was hard to concentrate on his voice. She was dizzy and burning up at an alarming rate. His nose scrunched as the pungent scent of blood coming from her hit him. "Were you injured from the Wraven attack?" "I don’t think so. We should stop for a while, it’s been hours." She answered honestly. "Fine, I will start a fire we can use to keep ourselves warm, it is freezing." He suggested they had been going for hours without stopping and if his calculations were right it would probably be evening by now and they were nowhere close to the surface. There was a way out to the surface he could sense it. Abrielle turned around to check for twigs and Cedric’s eyes fell on her back, she was bleeding from behind.
