Chapter 162: Denial The first thing that came to her mind was to deny it. She wasn’t jealous, she wanted to know the chances she had and how far his obsession with Callista was. Despite her resentment toward Callista, she would not doubt the fact that the female lead was like a little angel. The warmth Cedric craved in his life, honestly considering the story from Cedric’s point of view, was an emotional wreck. He was a heartless monster that could kill at the slightest provocation she was sure these fingers that gave her sparks at the slightest touch had ended a lot of lives. His hands were completely covered in blood. "It is a simple question, Cedric. It has nothing to do with jealousy. Callista is very pretty and I was wondering who is better." She answered staring aimlessly at his gold eyes. They were beautiful, she wondered if this was how it felt for Callista when she stared back into Lucian’s eyes. "It sounds like you are jealous, Aby, which is a bit amusing that the pompous lady of the Nightshade family is actually jealous of someone," Cedric chimed, a mischievous look lingering in his gaze complimented by the smirk that quirked on his lips. Abrielle was a bit taken aback; she was still adamant about the fact she wasn’t jealous. She didn’t really care; why should she care if Cedric was catching feelings for an angel like Callista? In short, she was the one who had something wrong with her for not liking the angel like Callista. "I am not jealous; it is fine if you don’t want to answer." she sneered at him, her cheeks red from fury. She kind of looked like a chipmunk to Cedric. He could not help but laugh. His deep voice resonated in the carriage. Even the way he chuckled was charming, Abrielle thought but quickly shook off the thought of what she was thinking. Nothing was charming about this monster. She pouted her lips annoyed. "What is so funny? You are indeed a bit unnerving." She muttered bitterly. Cedric’s laugh finally dried off, but a grin remained on his lips. "The more you deny it, the more amusing it is. It makes me glad you are capable of being jealous," he answered and this clearly infuriated Abrielle. She brushed off his hand from her chin, and Cedric was taken off by her reaction to the allegations. "I am not jealous and I don’t really care what you think. I don’t care if you spend the entire day with her or if you are having an a..." The air in her lungs suddenly disappeared and she was unable to finish her statement. Something flickered in his gaze and the carriage felt more chilly than it was. One moment, she was confused as to why he was suddenly mad, unable to understand his mood swings, still sinking in confusion with a strange feeling crawling up her skin. Next, she was thrown into a greater state of shock. Her eyes were left wide open when his cold lips covered hers. They were soft as she remembered, but why did the texture or the feeling of his perfect lips matter? She didn’t understand why Cedric suddenly decided to kiss her and it wasn’t just a regular one but one rather aggressive and demanding it left her weak to her knees. In a state of daze, Cedric was the one doing all the work, nibbling and sucking on her cherry-red lips. He wanted to stop but he could not. It has been long since he last tasted them. A week now, during their last mandatory night, this week was cancelled due to the winter prayer. She was the one poison he didn’t care to drown himself in. He didn’t care she wasn’t kissing him back. At least she didn’t shove him away. Her head was silly and he found it very annoying she thought he had an affair or saw Callista in any special light. Why would he want a girl crazy about his brother when he had an annoying wife who loved ticking him off he needed to domesticate? It was absurd, honestly, and pissing that she saw him so low. She was vexing, and if not for the fact he loved the way her voice moaned sweetly whenever she was squirming and grinding under him, he would have sealed it off. He felt her struggle to breathe, she was running out of breath, and he honestly didn’t want to stop. Abrielle’s little hands were drumming against his hard chest, begging him to stop. It would be embarrassing if she was to die from a kiss. "Don’t fall for her pretence. It is just a scheme to get you to fall for her. Everything she had done was just to trap you." The voice that always whispered in his ears more like rang in his mind, snapping him from his lost state. Abrielle’s punches were growing weaker, he was forced to part away from her lips. As soon as freedom was given to her, she hungrily started to gasp for oxygen to fill her deprived lungs. Her chest heaving rapidly with her slowed heartbeat kicking off. She was leaning on his chest, hearing his calm heartbeat after he had dragged all the air in her lungs. Cedric’s hand hesitantly touched her back, his thoughts trailing to what the voices said. Was it true everything she did was to win his affection by pretending like she didn’t care? He wondered but he was not convinced he remembered the look that lingered in her eyes at times, fear and hatred. It being her plan or not she successfully got him to accompany her. Abrielle’s hands were clutching his shirt she could not understand what had just happened. "To any married man regardless, his wife is meant to be the prettiest in his eyes; I hope my answer satisfies you." His voice was gentle and diplomatic. Abrielle’s face bent over; she wondered about the reaction he had on his face. The mood suddenly swung when a deafening thunder echoed followed by the loud neighing sounds of the horse. The winds howled like a storm, and several lightning struck the sky, frightening the horses that lost control.
