"You look cute when your face is all serious. I prefer it to the fake smile you use as a mask." Cedric said, leaving her stunned; he knew her smile was forced. "There is no need to be stunned; I grew up in the palace where we were taught how to put on a fake smile. Everyone had to hide their true intentions." Cedric said half heartedly, but she could sense a weird, sad tone in his voice. What was wrong with her? Was she feeling pity for this monster? She had to get facts and priorities straight; that was to escape my fate. I was the Villainess meant to die in his hands. "You said you have a question for me." She changed the topic as it was getting too personal. "Yes, I do. Ever since the wedding I could not help but wonder what made you decide to run away. Abrielle was not expecting the question and was deliberating on how to answer it. She pursed her lips into a straight and her eyes went cold. "I guess lying to you is hopeless; I wanted to run because I realized I was wrong all along and getting married to the famous blood lusted demon who has more enemies than the king himself was not a great idea." She replied giving a logical explanation. "More enemies than the king. As sad as it sounds, that’s true." Cedric chuckled at her answer. He knew she was lying. He read it from how composed she was, but he guessed she would rather not share her reasons with him. "You can try running, but it’s futile because, unfortunately, I need the support of the Vesper duchy and Nightshade family for obvious reasons. I have a lot of enemies. Don’t think of joining them, dear wife, because it would cause you more harm than good." Cedric said, pulling his horse from the rivers. His back was against her; he was not scared his crazy wife might decide to pull out a knife to stab him because he knew she was too weak to harm him. Abrielle’s eyes went wide like saucers, but she quickly organized herself and then followed behind him.."what made you think I want to be the enemy of one of the most dangerous men in the kingdom? Plus, my escape was a failed plan, and getting a divorce was as impossible as killing the king, so we are stuck together." Belinda neighed, having had enough water, then made her way from the river. It was about time they got back to the castle. After Abrielle had settled on the horse Cedric got on his mount. "Let me guess the maids gossiped with you about Princess Astrid." Cedric casually mentioned, and Abrielle’s eyes went wide, wondering if it was true. "The truth is that this face is best being covered because it has caused me a lot of trouble. I hope that answer satisfies you." Cedric answered, and of course, Abrielle wasn’t satisfied by the answer. Their quiet moment together was interrupted by a loud growl that didn’t seem to have come from far away. Abrielle shook to her core at the terrifying sound. It was followed by the Loud screeching and cawing sound of birds flying away. "What is that?" Abrielle asked, sounding very terrified. Cedric’s eyes dulled after hearing the sound. "That’s a clue to leave here. Something that isn’t meant to be here just appeared." His tone was heavy and she knew this was something terrifying. They started sprinting away from the river towards the direction of the castle, but the growls got louder, and it seemed whatever abomination it was. The thing was following them. "Cedric, please, what is going on?" Abrielle asked, trying her best to catch up with Cedric’s horse, which was way faster than hers. He has to reduce his speed so as not to be too far off despite the danger. "It’s a Khoas monster that lives deep in the whispering woods of woe, which is Miles away from here," Cedric explained and fear plagued Abrielle as she tried her best not to tremble. Khoas were monsters she once mentioned in the book whose origins were hell. They were beyond terrifying. Another loud growl sounded followed by an earthquake. Those bloodthirsty monsters were capable of magic. Abrielle’s horse lost control immediately after the earthquake started. She was struggling to get her horse under control when she heard Cedric scream. "Watch out!!!" Her eyes quickly darted around and realized her horse was running away from Cedric and heading towards a tree that was about to collapse due to the earthquake. .
