Chapter 185: Trip to Vesper The carriages started to descend the mountain slowly moving through the snow. "Unfortunately, I am in the mood to talk," Cedric replied to her; he was a chatterbox which wasn’t his nature. "When did you turn into a parrot? I thought you loved silence." Abrielle sneered at him. She should have ignored the dark aura around him for longer. "I guess it was after I started talking to you. I find conversations intriguing, as long as you are talking." He answered, Abrielle was a bit taken aback by his answer. It was difficult handling Cedric when he was acting this way. It was like he was flirting with her. "Noted, then I will have to talk less. " She retorted. "Even if you don’t talk, there are still ways I can hear your voice," Cedric said in a low, seductive tone. She didn’t want to ask him what he had in mind but she was sure it was something she would hate. She narrowed her eyes at him, "You will torture me to force me to scream in agony." She answered which amused Cedric. "If you call it torture, it will be the sweet type that will make you beg." A sly thought sneaked into her head. She was forced to stare at the window to hide her blushing cheeks. His statement actually made her embarrassed and a bit annoyed. Her cheek was resting on her face while glancing through the window. She knew he was watching her and couldn’t understand what was so interesting about watching her. Her cheeks were still red as old memories got into her head about the last time he made her beg. He was curious about what was on her mind; she was still clearly upset, but at least the silent treatment was over. "What is the point?" Abrielle asked puzzling him. "What do you mean?" He asked, wondering what she meant; she was still looking at the roadside, which was nothing but pine trees and snow. "What is the point of having sex if you have no intentions of having heirs at least not with me?" She explained herself. Her question did leave him a bit dumbfounded knowing this was related to their last conversation. "We do still have to obey the rule plus it is pleasurable. I am sure you agree with me on that." He answered that the rule was an excuse. They could spend the night together without getting intimate, he knew the reason was because he craved her in ways it felt he should not. "Every action does have repercussions, bear that in mind." It was a warning or, rather, a reminder. There was silence in the carriage before Cedric spoke again. "I have to go on a journey shortly after getting to the capital." He informed her that Abrielle was not surprised because it was expected. He has to travel to Vesper, her home town, to oversee the importation of the grains purchased from Galvia. Sapphire stayed in the capital while an official handled everything at the port because she was busy trying to gain Lucian’s favour. That was what happened in the original novel although Abrielle had an atom of doubt Sapphire might not do the same now. "Where are you travelling to?" She asked despite knowing just to be formal. She seemed a bit concerned; Cedric was glad she cared, or was she interested because she wanted to take advantage of the journey to plan another futile assassination attempt? It could be either reason. "Vesper, I will be gone for a while. Hopefully, I will be back by spring. I need to oversee the import deal and make sure everything is in place. At least my father trusts me enough to handle that." He explained, just as she had suspected. "I guess you will be travelling alone," she mentioned, the sounds of the horse hooves galloping through the path withdrawing the carriage continued. The ride was stable, and Cedric made sure of it because of her motion sickness. "I am not sure but a representative of Galvai is meant to accompany me. I will make the trip with Ryker and Ophelia as they are heading to Galvai but there is a chance Sapphire might join in." Cedric explained to her. There was no change in her expression after he mentioned Sapphire; she wasn’t insecure in the least way. "Okay," she mumbled sounding detached and uninterested. "You don’t seem worried I would be stuck with Sapphire for weeks. " Cedric stated his observations. "Do I have a reason to? You spend more time with Calista so I see no reason to be worried that Sapphire will be included on the trip." Abrielle explained how she felt. "You really don’t feel scared I might take her in as a second wife." "It is natural for royal members to have multiple wives especially since I might not be able to give you children." Abrielle indifferently answered. "I am not interested in having children," Cedric emphasized which Abrielle doubted. He wanted to be king, no king didn’t want to have heirs. "It is fine, Cedric I understand your intentions. You don’t want me to be the mother of your children, which is fine. You emphasized that earlier, but you don’t have to lie to make me feel better. I was ready for this once we got married." Cedric felt bitter inside hearing her. His bile rose, she didn’t seem jealous in the slightest way. Abrielle knew Cedric was not interested in Sapphire in the least way but she enjoyed getting on his nerves. Honestly, she was not scared of him spending time with Sapphire, but if, on the odd occasion, he took her in as a wife, it would be to her own advantage. She needed Cedric to pay less attention to her if she wanted her plan to work. She wasn’t going to die either in the hands of Cedric or Eleanor. The chances between Sapphire and Cedric were as impossible as Cedric falling in love with her.
