Chapter 187: Silent longing She was sleeping peacefully with soft snores leaving her lips. It was a beautiful sight; although Cedric enjoyed her chatter and glare, he still enjoyed moments like this. The voices were wrong, and a smile graced his lips. Although he might never understand her, one thing he knew for sure she truly didn’t like was the fact he said he didn’t want her having children for him. That, of course, might have caused a misunderstanding between them, but it revealed one fact: she secretly wanted children. His children. He just laid on the bed opposite her, watching her sleep; he didn’t want to blink as this might be the last time he saw her sleep for weeks to come. His hands reached out for her ears to tuck a stray strand of hair. "Why can’t we bridge the distance between us?" He asked again knowing she wasn’t hearing him. She shook in her sleep then her lips slightly parted. It looked adorable Cedric could not help but laugh. How can someone who looks this fragile and adorable want someone dead? He wondered. She was making him lose his mind every second and she did not know. The voices told him to blame her for Callista’s injuries, which was crazy when he considered it. If he had left the city earlier, that would have put her in greater danger; he didn’t want to imagine a scenario where he gets separated from her during the storm or worse if she was alone in the case he had left her to travel alone. She would have gone through the entire miscarriage on her own. He knew his actions were insensitive when he left her in the temple to search for the storm victims but he could not stop himself from going. It was not an excuse. It felt like the right thing, but it still felt wrong. A short sigh escaped his lips, and he crept closer to her to feel her warmth. She sensed his presence and snuggled towards him, placing her head against his chest. His smile grew wider Why was he wracking his brain thinking so much? He would figure out everything with time. He just wished he didn’t have to go on this trip or rather take her along but he knew he could not. The road was going to be dangerous and her body needed to rest. Who knew how many assassination attempts Eleanor or Karissa had planned. His little ginger was safer than here. Maybe time will tell. He crooked his head to place a peck on her forehead but was tempted to kiss her lips. Nothing was stopping him so he went ahead to fulfill his urges. It was meant to be a short kiss, but after feeling her soft plump lips against his, it was hard to part with her lips. He literally fought with himself to pull back telling himself she was asleep and should think with his brain and not his member. The prince reluctantly agreed to his reasoning to part with her lips. Now, it was harder for him to imagine this trip. How was he going to stay away that long? ****** A short yawn left Abrielle’s lips; she stretched out her arms, slowly, sitting up. It was bright, she thought as the bright lights from the window made it difficult to open her eyes. It took a minute to adjust her eyes to the light, and she lazily sat on the bed, looking across the wall in front of her. She wasn’t looking perfect this morning. Her hair was scattered everywhere, and it looked like she was carrying a nest on her head. She stretched again and glanced at the side of her bed that was in order and cold. That was weird; last night, she had a strange dream where Cedric slept by her side. He even kissed her expressing how much he was going to miss her. She must be going crazy to be seeing him in her dreams. The only person Cedric was going to miss was Callista; he probably snuck out to her quarters in the palace to pay her a secret visit, just like in the novel. Cedric made up his mind last night to confess his feelings to Callista after his trip. He seemed rather confident but he never had the chance to when he saw how excited Callista was to accept Lucian’s confession. Those were the events according to the novel. It was already dawn and he should be long gone. "I overslept and didn’t get to see him leave." She muttered, looking out the window. It was snowing heavily this morning. She felt a little worried, she wasn’t going to miss him, she thought. She should take advantage of his absence to arrange her escape. She had to escape by spring, and who knows by the time he is back from his trip, she would be long gone. Abrielle got off the bed walking on the cold marble floor. She walked barefoot on the ground to the window she stood by. Maybe having a glimpse of him before he left would have been nice. Why did she oversleep? Abrielle frowned at her thoughts. She had no idea, she slept this late due to Cedric’s spell. "Safe journey and good luck." She muttered looking in the direction Cedric must have left. Far away past the boundary of the capital close to the Ashwood duchy. A group of horsemen raced, and carriages moved through the snow. A particular horseman stopped; he heard the snow whisper to him. It sounded like Abrielle’s voice. He glanced behind, then shook his head. He must be going crazy; he had barely travelled the day and was already hearing her voice. "Is anything wrong, Your Highness?" Elias stopped by his side. Confused why he stopped while the entourage continued. "It’s nothing we should continue." Cedric sighed then continued ahead. In one of the carriages, Sapphire was fuming, annoyed at Cedric. It was annoying how he chose to travel on horseback instead of sharing a carriage with her. Her eyes were staring through the window hoping to catch a glimpse of him. "It is fine my dear prince. Let’s see how long you will stay stubborn once we are alone."
