Chapter 30: Rumours

Chapter 30: Rumours Maids always know everything going on around them. Abrielle didn’t know their main purpose for running their mouths, whether it was for them to gain her favour or they just wanted to run their mouths. She never expected maids working for the heartless first prince to be this jovial and guessed they were probably maids assigned solely to the winter castle. The maid weaving Abrielle’s hair continued her petty gossip. "Astrid was said to be very affectionate to the first prince that she was even when threatened by the queen to stay away but she refused. Back then, Prince Cedric was said to be very handsome. Even the second prince could not compare. No one knows exactly what happened except the royal family, but Cedric’s disfigured face is because of Astrid. After that, he started wearing a gold mask." The maid was truly talkative, and Abrielle’s brows furrowed. Cedric’s scarred face was due to an illicit affair within the royal family. This contradicted her assumptions that he had it due to war. "I thought he was scarred because he was sent to war at a very young age." Abrielle voiced her confusion. This was the problem with gossip. They were never verified accurately, but the affair with Princess Astrid was something interesting. "I don’t know about that; as I said, they are rumours, your highness." The maid explained. Abrielle lips were pulled into a straight smile as if saying. I knew so. She had high hopes for not. "What is the relationship between what you told me and Cedric’s least-like colour," Abrielle asked because she was interested in what that devil hated. The person who replied this time around was the maid who was holding out the dresses. "Princess Astrid loved to wear purple that Cedric declared he hated the colour and never wanted to see it close to him ever again. He always shows his obvious dislike to the colour." Abrielle’s eyes sparkled; now that was interesting. So he hates purple. A mischievous smirk made its way on her lips then she chimed. "Do I happen to have any purple dresses?" Abrielle asked. "No your highness, no purple dresses were purchased because his highness dislikes it." The maid replied. Abrielle made a mental note then to get more purple dresses. "So, which dress will you be wearing, Your Highness?" The maid inquired. Abrielle, in the end, selected the blue dress because of her plans for the day. As much as she didn’t want to do anything to please her husband she had to play the role of the virtuous wife. The dress was a lovely dress that complimented her sapphire eyes. After being dolled up, Abrielle was led to the dining hall, where her meal was already set. Her eyes sparkled immediately, seeing so many delicious foods that her eyes watered, remembering the days she had to eat stale bread and soup. The seat was pulled out for her and the meal was served on her plate. Abrielle picked up her cutleries and started to cut her bites, but her hands stopped, making the maid curious or worried if she was displeased with something. There was something wrong with the room. Her annoying husband was nowhere to be seen. "Where is Prince Cedric?" Abrielle inquired from the maids. "He is out training the knights." The maid replied almost systematically. "This early in the morning," Abrielle muttered, then went back to have her meal but for a weird reason, she was not enjoying it. It was a large room and she was the only one eating in it. After wiping her lips with a napkin, Abrielle gracefully got up from her seat but her eyes fell on the empty seat opposite her. "Did Cedric have anything before going to train?" Abrielle asked once more; she didn’t know why she was bothered in the first place but just felt like asking. "No, the knights have been training before dawn." The maid replied again. Abrielle’s face scrunched up; her husband was indeed the worst. He made his men start training from such an early time with an empty stomach; it was almost noon, and they still hadn’t any food. As her mind was cursing Cedric for being so heartless, she forgot the fact it was how she had written him to be. "Can we have some food to be taken to the knights? It is already late in the morning." Abrielle suggested. She was thinking earlier about how to convince Cedric to release Sarah, that is if the poor maid was still alive. "Yes of course. I will make arrangements immediately." The maid swiftly started to prepare to carry out Abrielle’s instructions. **** This morning Cedric decided to drill his knights early in the morning because they had been too loud while taking care of the assassins from last night. This was after they spent the entire night to clean up the aftermath of the assassination yesterday, which Cedric supervised the entire night. He was not tired the least bit, and neither were his knights because, under this tyrant leadership, they had been through worse. They had no idea the reason Cedric decided to give them this extra drill was because of Abrielle. Last night, after taking her to the bedroom, she started muttering things about how heartless he was for giving her stale bread and soup. Cedric would not forget a particular statement she said in her sleep. She accused him of being unable to get his member up that’s why he was yet to consummate their marriage. He didn’t know what to do with his annoying wife, so he was even tempted to kill her. The knights were training behind the castle. The sound of an incoming carriage distracted them and soon the carriage stopped with the princess coming out with a beautiful smile. Abrielle had the most beautiful smile he had seen that dazzled with his heart, but unfortunately, she wanted him dead. "Cedric." She chimed running towards him while smiling. This startled Cedric and his knights, who were aware of the fact the princess had attempted to assassinate the prince. Abrielle ran straight to Cedric and hopped on her feet to wrap her hands around his neck. Abrielle placed a soft peck on his cheeks that left Cedric. "Good morning my love." She said with a cheesy smile. Cedric was beyond dumbfounded wondering which evil plans she was up to now. She was calling him her love. Did she hit her head against something?
