Chapter 161: Who is prettier? Abrielle bit her lips, being caught red-handed and lost for words. The carriage suddenly jolted as it started to glide in the snow. Abrielle lost her balance, falling on Cedric, her face in between his legs. Her eyes glanced up at him from the embarrassing position they were in. She quickly jolted away to move from the compromising position she was in. The carriage was swaying and lacked balance. Abrielle ended up tripping again, almost falling on the floorboard. Her heart was thudding in her chest over the chaotic situation. There wasn’t any storm yet and it was already this bad, moving in the thick snow. Luckily for her, she never got to kiss the floorboard with her face. It was embarrassing how clumsy she was. Cedric’s arm wrapped around her waist, holding her firmly in place, stopping her fall before he drew her closer. "Moving in this snow is annoying, but fortunately, the main road is cleared. It won’t be bumpy from there on," Cedric spoke. They were too close for comfort. She felt his breath fan over her skin as he spoke from behind her ears. Abrielle’s throat was a bit dry all of a sudden, making her nervously gulp. "Thank you for helping me out, but I can sit on my own. This feels a bit uncomfortable." She blurted, wanting to scramble away from his hold. She had decided it was best to give themselves some space but he kept on evading hers. "The ride is still bumpy; you might slip and hit your head on something. I don’t want your family to think I can’t take proper care of you." Cedric replied self-righteously, leaving her dumbfounded. Her mouth parted and closed, honestly, finding what to answer. The audacity he had was dumbfounding. "That is a bit hard to believe, considering it came from the same man who almost choked me to death and threatened my life on several occasions. At times I do feel safer away from you." Abrielle brazenly said to Cedric clearly forgetting about Cedric’s temperament. At times she really acts like she forgot her brain on her bed. Was Cedric offended? No, he wasn’t; there was no denying he did those things. "What about all the times I had saved you, Moonstone Harbour? You would have drowned if I wasn’t there. Not to forget the winter hunt," Cedric argued back, honestly, just enjoying the feeling of bickering with her while she was in his arms. He didn’t know when he started enjoying closing the distance between them. "If you hadn’t forced me to come along to the hunt, I would not have been in that situation in the first place, and if it wasn’t embarrassing to go around as Prince Cedric’s wife to buy sex drive potions, I would not have been in those situations in the first place." She cleanly shifts the blame to Cedric. He was a bit stunned at how she kept getting consistent about going to Moonstone Harbour to get sex drive potions. He wondered how she would react if she knew he knew the true intentions and reasons she went to Moonstone. She might probably try another reckless move to kill him. Thinking about that, Abrielle had not attempted any silly attempts in a long while. Did she truly stop? Cedric drew in a short breath, sniffing the subtle rose scent that lingered on her. "If my memory serves me right, you were the one who suggested we go for the hunt, and the camp was not any safer. People also lost their lives there. Don’t let me get started at Moonstone. We both know I don’t have any issues performing my duties." He gave her the facts but she was not giving up. She was so caught up in arguing that it failed to catch her attention that she was now on the main road, and as expected, the royal envoy was long gone. "How do you expect me..." She was forced to swallow back her words when he shut her by placing his finger on her lips, shushing her. Then, he slowly started to rub it; he was acting strange again. "I do love hearing your voice but I love it more when you don’t talk. Your tongue is too sharp for your good." He said in a low tone. "How can you love my voice but yet hate it when I talk?" She asked him a bit puzzled. "Some things can’t be explained," he answered. The carriage started to slow down as it approached the drawn bridge, and Abrielle finally realized how close they were all this time. She slowly scouted away to the other end of the seat, and he didn’t stop her either. There was this awkward silence in the carriage as it soon proceeded again. Close to an hour they were close to the city gates and finally embarked on their journey to the mountains. Abrielle’s gaze was stuck on the window. She couldn’t glance in Cedric’s direction because of his gaze. She felt focused on her. "Don’t you get tired of staring? It is a bit uncomfortable." Her silky voice asked him, still refusing to look over. Outside was an endless stretch of withered trees and white snow. This was a different route from when she came to the capital. "How can I get tired of staring at the most interesting thing in the room? At least I don’t pretend to find the snow more interesting." Cedric answered in a beat leaving her speechless. Her breath hitched, and her heart seemed to have spiked a beat. "The snow is interesting and peaceful," "But it isn’t more beautiful than you." Cedric chimed, and Abrielle choked on her spit, trying to process what he said. "Is it really that hard to accept a compliment?" He added. "I thought I misheard." She managed to say after recovering from the choking. Then the silliest thing came to mind. "Can I ask a question, between Callista and I, who do you think is prettier?" She brazenly asks. Cedric went silent, and she suddenly felt nervous at his reply. She knew what it was going to be either way. She felt subtle sparks on her skin when he grabbed her chin forcing her to look at him more like his eyes. He was initially confused, a knot formed between his brows, but soon, a smirk tugged his lips. "Are you jealous, dear wife?"
