Chapter 102: Losing her mind Why did his arms feel warm? Tears welled up in her eyes that threatened to fall but she had to stay strong. He was her nemesis and the last thing she should feel in his arms was comfort. She swallowed hard then took a deep breath to calm herself. She was just drained after last night, but she still knew her goal was not to die, and the only way was to escape the plot. Last night’s incident was a reality check on her; she just needed to strategize because she was going to escape this plot no matter what. "Cedric," she muttered, and his hold tightened; the room was vacated to give them some privacy. He didn’t say anything, and all she felt was his calm heartbeat. It was rhythmic and very peaceful. "Is something the issue?" Abrielle asked; she needed to leave his embrace, or she would not be able to part with the comfort it gave her. Cedric released a long breath that had a ticklish effect on her. "I should be the one asking you that question. What is bothering you? A problem shared is a problem half solved, and I am your husband. You should be able to share your worries with me." His words were tender and her heart quivered. Why was he acting tender? He was a tyrant, he should act as such. "Nothing is bothering me. I am just tired and overwhelmed, you should focus on your given task and don’t mind me. I will be fine." She answered. She still went ahead to lie to him. "How can I focus on any other thing when you are like this? It is my duty as your husband to take care of you. Please tell me what it is that gives you nightmares." Sandalwood mixed with vanilla and a dash of cinnamon was what he smelled like. It was her forbidden paradise, why was he doing this to her? He should ignore her completely so that she could hate him but yet a part of her secretly wished his gaze was on her. Cedric leaned down resting his head on her hair. "What gives me nightmares is not what you can fix? Cedric, I am fine. You are just overthinking things." She answered, refusing to open up. He didn’t know why it felt so important to him that she opened up about her feelings. Maybe it was the vague thought that had been in a corner of his mind about being at each other’s home. He knew, for some unknown reason, he was her biggest nightmare. He spun her around pushing her closer to the table. Her clear blue eyes met with his gold eyes with intense emotion. She raised her hand to put it in front of her chest; her heart could not stand that gaze. She tried to look away, but he didn’t let her. Her eyes were scared but she wasn’t scared of him but herself. She was scared of Abrielle as the fear slowly made its way to her heart. She was Abrielle, a love-obsessed wife; she didn’t want to fall in love with him. Cedric’s hand reached to tuck a stray strand behind her ear. She was beautiful. He thought then pulled her head closer to capture her lips. Maybe he felt kissing those lips that loved to lie would make her stop. Abrielle was dumbfounded as her body pressed against his, and he kissed her gently at first, but it later turned hungry like he was starved. Next thing, she knew she was kissing him with the same fervour, turning from side to side to look for a position that seemed more pleasing. Cedric’s arm wrapped around her waist; he lifted her, not parting with her lips for a second. He made her sit on the table and then deepened the kiss. His arms gripping the sides of the table caging her in between. There were faint kissing sounds in the room. He licked the corner of her lips and then pried them open with his tongue. His warm slippery tongue entered her mouth to tease her tongue. She leaned in, enjoying the kiss; he was super intense and was messing with her mind. Before he knew it, his hand started to crawl up her thighs. He wanted more, and why was it so convenient she was wearing a light dress he could easily get rid of? His fingers on her skin left faint sparks that made her lose her reasoning. A little cute sound left her lips that were swallowed by him. It was like she hummed his name. "Cedric." He stopped reluctantly parting his lips from her. Abrielle was catching her breath and was stunned to see his pitch-black eyes that were staring at her every movement as her chest continued to heave. "I have to stop. If not, I might end up making you take me in right here and now." His voice was raspy, and his eyes were still pitch black. He nervously looked away. What was wrong with her? She thought one thing and her body did the complete opposite. "Take care, I will try returning early." He said placing a soft peck on her forehead before walking away. Abrielle watched him leave before she curled up on the table, hugging her legs. She was about to stupidly give in to him after what happened last night. He didn’t stop Callista then and now he wanted to act like he cared. Cedric’s eyes slowly reverted to their original colour as his fingers curled into a fist. Why was it that he lost every reason when it came to her? A few months ago, they were a complete stranger, but now he craved for her in a way that was maddening. He remembered how hard it was to hold back himself whenever he saw her clear skin with the urge to bury himself completely in her and never part away. She was having a hard time fighting whatever demons were on her mind, and he wanted to take her at that moment. He was acting like a monster. For the first time, he was happy to hear the voice that always judged Abrielle. It screamed in his head telling him not to fall for her schemes. Honestly, he didn’t care about not falling for her scheme. It was a dangerous game he was ready to play.
