Chapter 88: How can you say that when he’s not waking up? They were really taking things out on Jin-Yeok harshly. But it wasn’t his fault. Well, maybe a little bit, it wasn’t entirely his fault. Jin-Yeok’s face crumpled, his voice barely audible as he gave in to their words and said, "I have no excuses. I failed to protect him despite being right next to him... I was careless." His weak and guilty tone made my heart ache for him. What happened while I was unconscious? Wait, since I can hear their voices now, did this mean I had come back to this world? I had mixed feelings about it. I felt conflicted and uneasy. If they were arguing over me, then it must mean they still had feelings for me, but that did not make me feel any better. I was back in this world, and I could never get out. The waves had truly carried me back. How ironic was that? But why wasn’t I waking up, though? I spent two weeks away, so I wonder if it had been two weeks since the accident. In any case, I could not run away even if I wanted to. I could not think of this world as just a novel or a dream. This was my life now, and the way I lived it determined what my ending would be. I refuse to live a life that ends in my demise. I felt someone’s hands holding mine. It wasn’t bare skin. Both hands were gloved, which meant they belonged to Jin-Yeok. "I shouldn’t have let you run off on your own," I heard him say. "But I promise to make it up to you. I... Will not let Su-Yeon go without punishment. So please wake up so that I can make it to you." He bowed his head, pressing my hand on his forehead.. I could feel him trembling. I had succeeded in making this man tremble simply by staying unconscious. What a feat. The next person’s voice I heard belonged to Hyun-woo. Ugh, I nearly forgot we had something similar to a fight where I wished I wouldn’t have to see him for a long time. I guess my wish was granted since I spent two weeks away from this world and didn’t see him. But I guess he came over every day because he was my doctor. How did he feel seeing me lying down unconscious? At least now it was worth his time and money to actually be summoned, right? That loathsome bastard who always had an irritated tone and a disgruntled expression as if the world was his enemy. Well, news flash, the world happened to be ’my’ enemy because it messed with my life. So, if he was feeling shitty about his life that was next to perfect thanks to his skill and job, then he could go sulk in a corner for all I care because if we did so much as a comparison then I’d win because my life was more shitty than his. "He should be waking up," I heard Hyun-woo’s voice. "He hit his head, but it’s not enough to put him in a coma for this long. The wound in his head is almost healed too. So I don’t see what the problem is. He’s completely fine." So, was he saying that I was lying there unconscious on purpose? "How can you say that when he’s not waking up?" I heard Min-Cheol’s voice. It sounded aggrieved. "It’s because that’s exactly what I’m seeing here," Hyun-woo said. "All scans and tests show that there’s nothing wrong with him, so there’s nothing keeping him from waking up." "I don’t understand. There must be something going on," Ki-hoon said with an aggressive tone, and I could feel my surroundings clearly as though I were looking at all of them. Jin-Yeok was not in the room. But I was sure I heard his voice earlier. Was it a different time frame? Am I just hearing the conversations they had during the two weeks I was unconscious? That was the only way to interpret it because I could feel my surroundings, but I just couldn’t wake up. Maybe I’d be able to wake up at the same time I left the other world. For now, I’m just glad I can at least understand how the situation was while I was gone. This is my life now and these people will be a part of my life for a very long time so I had to take more note of my surroundings in order to stay out of danger for the long run, until I’m a hundred percent sure that these men love me and would do absolutely anything for me. There was no waking up or going back as a form of escape because this was reality. And in this reality, those four powerful men held the reins to my life and safety. Yet... Even if they did end up becoming completely fools for me, it didn’t mean I wouldn’t be in any form of danger. The people who were against them and those who were jealous of me would come after me one by one, and when that happens, not even they would be able to block all of it. In the end, had to rely on my own strength. "I can only assume that Hwang Jo-Pil just doesn’t want to ’wake up’ from his unconscious state," Hyun-woo said something that immediately caught my attention. So he did think I was doing this on purpose. "What do you mean he doesn’t want to wake up?" Ki-hoon asked. "It’s exactly as I said it," Hyun-woo answered. "As a doctor, I’ve been able to meet a variety of patients before I started working for the four great families. And among the patients I met, there were some who scaled through a very dangerous condition and managed to survive, while there were some who died despite suffering from only minor wounds." He turned to Min-Cheol and then Ki-hoon. "Do you understand that?" "Finish what you’re saying and stop playing mind games with us." Min-Cheol impatiently barked at him. "It’s not a fun game." Hyun-woo sighed and said, "It’s the will of the patient."
