Chapter 37 - I felt like he was still testing me Yes, he was a gentleman who let things like disrespect slide but that was on the surface. He was a man who knew how to keep 'coins' and made sure to return the 'coins' in double. You get it, right? He knew how to keep a grudge. And I know you'd say there was no need to keep a grudge towards me for simply declining his handshake but think about it like this. This was a test to the one who would carry his child instead of his lover who he cared about. He was angry at my existence but couldn't do without my existence, so I would probably suffer if he decided not to be a gentleman towards me. I know Jo-Pil suffered, so let's not make that mistake. "How long are you going to keep your master's hand hanging, Jo-Pil?" He said, "It's not a good attitude." I gulped. What to do now? Right about now. This would be the best time to get some sort of interruption. I glanced at Min-Cheol through the corner of my eyes but it didn't look like he was going to do anything. Where was Ki-hoon anyway? My heart was racing. This wasn't even a life or death situation but it sure felt like it. I gulped and was about to shake him when he dropped his hand and said, "I was briefed this morning but I didn't think it was true," he said, confusing me. What was going on? What was he talking about all of a sudden and why did he drop his hand? Did I make a mistake I didn't know of? My hands slightly trembled and my lips quivered. "Or are you just faking it?" He asked, his expression looking amused. "It's alright, I won't blame you if you're simply pretending." "Pretending?" I asked, confused as to what he was referring to. He took a long look at me before tucking his hand in his pocket to bring out a handkerchief. "So, it's really a defect." He said and covered his nose with the handkerchief. "In the end, you're still a human with flaws." As soon as he said that, my heart thumped. It was very similar to what he said to the real Jo-Pil in the novel, which means he was unimpressed. What did this mean? "Hyung," Min-Cheol called and I looked back. "You're releasing Pheromones again," he said. "And it's quite a lot. Are you scared of the old man by chance?" I gulped. Did I let my feelings slip with my Pheromones again? This was harder than I thought. How would I get things going if my pheromones always found a way to ruin things for me? "Scared?" I asked and glanced back at the friendly-looking Alpha in front of me with a handkerchief over his nose. I felt like he was still testing me. He was trying to know my inner thoughts without having to ask by himself. I turned to Min-Cheol, who didn't look like he was worried about my Pheromones spilling out, and I gulped. I would have to place my bet on Min-Cheol. I was going to bet that he would help me if he saw that I was going to get hurt. He was a bastard who held only his interest in mind, but I'd like to think, for a moment, that I was part of his interest so he would put me in mind. "Yes," I answered and clutched his arm. "I don't know why but... I'm scared and I... I can't look my master in the eye. I feel like..." I raised my head and locked eyes with Min-Cheol's, hoping he'd see the desperation in my eyes. "...I'm in danger. Did I... Do something wrong?" The Alpha in front of us was Shin Jin-Yeok. He was the master of the Shin family who was in charge of most of the clothing lines in the country. His brand was in every nook and cranny of the country and even beyond, spreading his influence and creativity and expanding his family even more to be on toe with Lee Ki-hoon, who was into oil and gas, as well as raw materials like coal and gold mining. But underneath that famous clothing brand and a very clean record was Shin Jin-Yeok's hidden identity as a mafia Lord. He puts most of his frustration that he hides perfectly on the people of the underworld. (Not the dead, but hidden and illegal businesses). He dirtied his hands and then cleaned them properly before showing himself to the world as a gentleman who couldn't even harm a fly. He wore hand gloves on both hands to hide the roughness of his hands and keep up his image. The reason Ki-hoon wore a glove on one of his hands was related to his, as well as the name 'Castor'. There was so much to dive into this character called Shin Jin-Yeok but the author decided to simply drop the surface for the readers and let our imaginations figure out the rest. Min-Cheol stared at me, surprised by what I said. I mean, there was genuine surprise on his face, and then it turned into slight suspicion, but it was not towards me. He raised his gaze and faced Jin-Yeok. "Old man," he called, his voice sounding a bit spiteful. "What did you do behind our backs?" Hm? What's this? Did he think Jin-Yeok had done something to me and that was why I was scared? Instead of suspecting me of knowing too much by my reaction, he was suspecting Jin-Yeok instead. Wow, this was such a development. But I better clear up the misunderstanding if not, it might come back to bite me. "No, Little Min, don't misunderstand. This is my first time seeing this master," I said. "I was just being too bold by saying what was in my mind. I..." I glanced back at him and saw the eyes that were gazing at me. It suddenly sent chills down my spine and I quickly looked away, terrified. "...was being presumptuous. Forgive me." It looked like I had landed myself in Jin-Yeok's book of woes but I hope I could still play it off somehow. I just needed to get a hint of what he was thinking but that darn smile of his was making it difficult.
