Chapter 164: What would you like me to say, master? "Hah," Seo-Jun sighed, brushing his hand over his neck. "This is hard." Wait, wait, wait, don’t do that. I looked at the single glass of wine on the table and then the bottle that had just been opened. Where was the steak that was supposed to go with the wine? I wondered. Was he planning to simply drink a few glasses and then head up? Was that his dinner? So, this guy was neglecting his meals. Who was to say the others weren’t also neglecting their meals? "Let’s have dinner." I said. Since I couldn’t easily process his words, I decided to eat something first. I mean, it’s hard to think on an empty stomach, and at the moment, his words were just so difficult to process that I needed to at least eat till I was half-filled before I started having such random and draining thoughts. Seo-Jun looked at me. Since he hadn’t gotten a response regarding what he had said to me, he felt uneasy. At least, that was what his face said. His breathing was also slightly off. He was nervous. Now, this was a sight I never thought I would see. Just what had happened while I was in my room? Did they fight? Come to think of it, Min-Cheol punched him before. I lowered my gaze and then my eyes traveled to the maids who were arriving with the steak. "I did whatever I could do so you and I wouldn’t stay on bad terms, but it still turned out ’that’ way." I watched them drop the steak in front of me. I had three layered steaks since one didn’t exactly fill me up. "After that, I decided to give up." I said, my voice and expression soft and riddled with regret. "If I can’t make my master like me or at least get comfortable around me, then what else can I do? I can only live according to their will, right?" I raised my gaze and smiled sadly at him. "So, I don’t understand what you want me to think after listening to you. It... Confuses me." I did not raise my gaze and simply stared at my reflection on the glass of wine that had been poured for me. Whatever expression Seo-Jun had on his face after what I had said, I had no idea. But he was silent. Seo-Jun stood there, silently, his eyes on me. I could feel them. His hands were free, and his heart was racing. But I have the knowledge of books he would never find so I believed my worth, in the world of readers, was equivalent to his. He just needed to see that. "Jo-Pil," he called and I raised my head, chewing on the tender steak that quickly melted in my mouth. The chef had outdone himself again. ’You know, I wasn’t allowed to have meat for a while because of some reason.’ I thought. "Jo-Pil," he called again. ’I mean, I had my back peeled off so I should at least eat more protein, meat especially, to regain my lost flesh, right?’ "Jo-Pil!" Seo-Jun called the third time, slamming his hand on the table and the glass of wine next to my plate fell, spilling on my plate of steak. I stared at my steak, which was now swimming in wine. Just how much strength did Seo-Jun have for him to fall the glass of wine? Well, at least it didn’t spill all over me. I finally raised my gaze and looked at him. He was trembling, his teeth gritted and a desperate look on his face. He looked like someone who was on the edge of a thin rope that was about to cut. What pushed him this far? "I know, I know I’m an asshole." He said. Yeah, you are. No doubt about it. "But I said I’ll try.x he cracked his hands on the table and I glanced at them before returning my gaze to his face. He looked pathetic. "Why do you want to try?" I asked him, causing him to flinch. "You didn’t lose anything when you looked down on me and called me out for being a slave. I mean, you weren’t wrong. So, why the change of heart now?" "It’s because I don’t understand you." He said, and I furrowed my eyebrows. "What goes through your mind even when you’re at the end of your road? What did you do to overcome your trauma? How did you cope for this long without breaking down? How are you not insane?" What was he on about? "I thought about these ridiculous things every day after that day. I thought about it even though it had nothing to do with me. It shouldn’t bother me, but it haunts me. I wake up in the middle of the night, my heart racing and cold sweat dripping down my pores, and a question plays in my mind. ’What would Jo-Pil do?’ but I can’t come up with an answer." "Master, what is your point?" I asked. His words confused me the more I heard them. If he was going to say something then he should just say... "You’re strong." He said and my heart skipped a beat.
