Chapter 143: Jin-Yeok looked exhausted -If you’re looking for perfection, take a look at your reflection- That was a quote I found in the book in my hand. The book Min-Cheol had gotten from me. I finally got the chance to read it after spending the last four days writing as if my neck was on the line. I wrote a lot but that bastard- I mean my master, was just too much of a fast reader. I will be done with it soon, thankfully. And once that was done. I would be free. After reading that single sentence about perfection, I raised my head and looked towards my balcony window. How right was this? It was very right. Since no one was flawless, if one was desperately searching for perfection then they could start by looking in the mirror. The person they saw in the mirror, if they believed that that was the definition of perfection then I would definitely call that person a narcissist. I laughed at the thought. Seo-Jun was a good example. Yes, it was a good thing to think positively and call yourself a perfect being instead of looking for perfection in others, but there was a limit to how much you should stare at your reflection in the mirror if you didn’t want to become a narcissist. Who knows, you could become the next ’Narcissus’. "Jo-Pil." I suddenly heard Jin-Yeok’s voice and raised my head to find him at my door. "Master," I called softly. "You’re here." I said but paused as I noticed his eyes were fairly darker than it was the last time I saw him. He must be suffering from withdrawal symptoms. It had been five days since I asked him to stop taking the drug and it looked like he stopped right away. That was good and while trying to stay away from the drug, it looked like he was putting up quite the fight to stop himself from throwing a fit in the middle of the day. I wondered why he hadn’t shown himself since he left to take care of some business four days ago and now I know why. He needed something to take his mind off things, so he substituted taking the drugs with more of his night raids. That was my speculation though. There was no other way to take his mind off things otherwise. Jin-Yeok looked exhausted, like someone who hadn’t slept in days, but it was just him fighting the urge to take the medicine again and seem normal on the outside at the same time. There was a faint smell of blood lingering in the air around him. He had killed someone. Or rather, people. I sighed. What was the use of analyzing all of that? I should just give him a place where he could lay his head without having to worry about anything. "Master, take a seat." I said, patting the space of the bed next to me and he sat down after taking off his coat, leaving his gloves on. He dropped his head on my shoulder and I smiled, patting his head softly. "You’re working hard, master." I said to him. "I’m so proud of you." Yes, if I said this to him maybe he would feel better. He was struggling to keep his sanity and I couldn’t believe how well he was doing. "I’m sorry, Jo-Pil." He suddenly apologized. "I wanted to follow your advice and stop at ten but I... I got so frustrated and made a mistake." So, he killed more than ten. Well, it wasn’t like I expected him to limit the killing right away. He surprised me by stopping the drug as soon as I told him to stop. "It’s alright." I said, stroking his hair. "It’s not like you can get rid of your habit in one night. I believe you’re doing your best. Baby steps, okay?" He went silent and I felt his shoulders relax. He was finally at ease with his eyes closed and his heart beating normally. I didn’t do much. I just stroked his hair softly and encouraged him but it looked like that was all he needed to calm down. Nah, it couldn’t have been that easy. Then, was I releasing Pheromones to calm him down? How should I know? I wouldn’t even know if I wanted to. But it could be the case. I heard Pheromone helped to relax the nerves of one’s partner so I guess that was true. I sighed softly. ’It seems he’s fallen asleep. Did he not sleep in these few days?’ I wondered and closed my eyes. I wonder... Did he decide to stay away for these few days just so he wouldn’t suddenly lose control in front of me? Maybe he knew he would make a mistake and didn’t want to make it in front of me, repeating the scene of the story I told him and having him regret it. He was scared. At least, that was what I liked to believe. It wasn’t like I could open up his head and check the happenings that were going on in his mind. "Just rest for now, Master. You deserve it." His breathing was soft and at ease. The time was five in the evening, and dinner would be ready in an hour or two, but I was contemplating whether to wake him up when that time came. No, it was probably a bad idea. Jin-Yeok hadn’t slept properly for a while, so it was better to let him sleep longer. Maybe this time... I would have dinner in my room. But was he comfortable with sleeping while sitting up? His neck would hurt when he woke up. Let’s get him to lie down properly. I tried to lie him down but then he held my hand, interlocking our fingers as he mumbled, "Don’t go." Jeez, I wasn’t going anywhere. He could ease up. "It’s alright. I’m not going anywhere." I said in a low tone and this caused him to ease up once more. Just then, the door opened and I looked up. April and May walked in and bowed their heads. Why were they in my room, though? It wasn’t bath time yet, right? Well, never mind that they came at the right time. I was just thinking of how to summon someone. "April, May, I’d like to have my dinner in my room today." I said, and they looked at me, wondering what my reasons were, but then their eyes fell on Jin-Yeok, who was sleeping next to me, and nodded. "Yes, master." They never said why they were there and simply left. Strange, right?
