There was a table between us, but I was sure that table wouldn’t be able to stop this man if he decided to leap towards me and try something funny. And I wouldn’t be able to run because my butt was throbbing. I bit my lip in anger as I glared at him. Well, let’s not give him the chance to act funny. "You look cuter when you’re mad." He said, and I could tell he was loving this. Him loving this situation made me even more mad, and I hissed at him like the serpent he was and opened the book. "I’ll start," I said, picking up the pen. He was waiting for me to say that all along so he could ask his own question. "How do you know the books aren’t in this world when you haven’t even read all the novels in this world?" He asked, and I rolled my eyes away. "It’s a trade secret." I think that was going to be my new watchword. "Okay, let’s take it that it’s indeed a trade secret and that there are really other worldly books that you’ve read and are now stored in your head." He said and unfolded his arms from on top of the chair. "But let me warn you. I’ve read all the novels in this library, and the novels are all up to date. You can’t trick me." I paused, stunned. I turned to look at the library. He had read all the books in this huge library? Maybe the history books weren’t included, I’d like to think so, but it was still... "What?" He folded his arms again, and I turned to him. "Having second thoughts about deceiving me?" He asked. "It’s just... You’re amazing." I said to him, which caught him by surprise. "It’s truly impressive that you’ve read so many books. I mean, I have read a lot of otherworldly books but..." I looked him in the eye and genuinely said, as a fellow book lover. "You’re really extraordinary." I smiled. "I’m impressed." Oh, snap. I lost control of my emotions for a moment and smiled. I promised not to smile at him, but I did. And all for the love of books. Did he notice? I peeked at his expression to find him staring at me, frozen like a piece of art. He looked... Handsome. But then he broke out of his frozen state and said, "I certainly am impressive." Tut, that narcissist. But from the looks of it, by the way he suddenly paused, staring in shock after I said my piece, it was as if no one had told him something like that. As if... It was the first time.
