Chapter 40 - You can count on me "Hwang Jo-Pil," Jin-Yeok called and I snapped out of my anxiety. "I don't know how you've been doing since you arrived here or how you were able to take that stubborn child," he said, referring to Min-Cheol on my shoulders and Min-Cheol bared his fangs out at him. "But I'd say you're doing quite better than I expected." Hm, he was probably expecting me to be torn to shreds by either one of them by now. I mean, I was sure he knew of Jo-Pil and Ki-hoon's 'history'. He worked an amazing information network being a Lord of the underworld so this little detail shouldn't evade him. It was also that lover of his that brought up the fact that Jo-Pil had killed an Alpha in other to cause conflict between Jo-Pil and the Alphas who were starting to show interest in him. That information was definitely gotten from one of Jin-Yeok's secret folders of Jo-Pil that he kept to himself. Me killing someone didn't have anything to do with him anyway. He had killed tons, after all. He just needed an heir and that was it. But with the way things are going now, I think I can strike out that incident from the plot unless that lover of his never knows that they are all aware and that the misunderstanding has been settled and tries to pull that stunt in the future. It will end in utter failure, no doubt. "Come," he said with a tone that sounded like a command despite his gentle smile. "Do you like gifts?" "I... I do." I said as I walked forward with Min-Cheol still holding on to me. "Do you have any in particular?" He asked but I shook my head. As long as it was valuable, I'll appreciate it. That was what I wished to say, but it would be too brazen of me, so I answered politely and humbly. "Not at all, master." I said. "I'll appreciate anything my master gives me." For sure, the presents they have to offer wouldn't be too shabby, right? After all, they were very rich and powerful. Don't tell me they'll be stingy with their pockets. In the novel, they didn't hold back on the good stuff so I don't think I have to worry about that. "That's good to hear." Jin-Yeok said, beaming a smile that I had to take cover to avoid getting blinded by it. "I was almost getting worried about what to get you on our first meeting. You see, I'm the kind of person who would treat those on my side to nice things and vice versa for those who bare their fangs at me." He said, his gaze speculating that as long as I didn't do anything that would go against him, he would be good to me. That's good 'cause I didn't plan to go against him from the start. "And from what I've seen," his gaze changed into something lighter and he smiled. "I think you're quite a good guy so I'll treat you well. You can count on me." He said that but, why do I not believe this guy? I keep feeling uneasy each time he smiles with his eyes and tells me nice things. "Thank you, master," Nevertheless, I have to act as respectfully as I can until... Well, there was no telling if he would ever open up to me, this sly bastard. "But..." I looked at all the numerous boxes. "Are these all for me?" "Yes," he answered. "While the majority of them were ordered by Lee Ki-hoon, the rest were carefully handpicked by me." "Ah, I feel honored." I said. The most cringe thing I had said all morning. "I will definitely accept them thankfully, master." "There are mostly clothes and accessories so feel free to try them out whenever you wish. But for now, can you follow through with a request of mine?" He asked and I paused. Ah, so there was a catch after all. Not like I didn't expect it. The Ki-hoon part was understandable since he was already swooning over me but for Shin Jin-Yeok to suddenly get me gifts, something he didn't do in the novel, it made me feel like he planned out something just for me. As I anticipated what he wanted to request of me while calculating how to get out of it if it was something I could not afford to do, he clasped his gloved hands together and said, "Will you try out one of my gifts first before anything else?" He asked and I, who was expecting the worst, was taken by surprise. "Huh?" Wait, was that the request? Something so simple? Wait, he didn't mean I had to strip there and put it one, did he? If it was that then it was plausible. There was no such thing as a simple request from this man. Only, there was. He did not want me to strip there and put it on, because he said, "Once you're done taking your bath, please wear one of my gifts first. I'd really love to see it." Okay, now I was confused. When I felt I needed to keep my guard up more than anything, this man would suddenly act so... 'Pure'. And then when I let my guard down just a tiny little bit, he would become my worst nightmare. "Is that too much of a request?" He asked. Gosh, now he was asking for my opinion? At this rate, I would really fall under mental stress because they were killing me with overthinking. "It's not, master." I said. "I... I can do that. As soon as I take my bath, I will wear your gift. But..." I looked around. All the boxes looked similar. "Which of them is yours?" "Oh, don't worry. I already picked out the one you'll wear." He said and randomly picked out of the boxes. "Here," he handed it to me. "Wear this." Now, I was feeling skeptical. This 'thing' that he wanted me to wear. It couldn't be that it was some sort of sketchy outfit, right? You know, like a bunny or maid costume. If it was, would I be able to get out of it now that I've accepted it? I began to sweat. This was so nerve-wracking. "Alright master, I'll quickly have my bath and..." I paused as I watched him lean towards me. He moved to my ear as if trying to whisper something and brushed his lips on my ear causing me to flush. "W-wear what you got me." He smirked and said, "That's a good boy," And this was supposed to be someone who had a lover.
