Chapter 65: Pampering Her The evening breeze brushed gently against her as Lethia stood in front of the mall entrance. Renar had told her to wait at the lobby since the parking lot was quite far. Her eyes caught sight of an empty bench where the valets usually waited, and she dragged her aching feet toward it, letting herself slump onto the seat. She hadn’t expected that just an hour of shopping would make her body crave a full massage. Doctor Rue had mentioned earlier that her pup’s heavy energy would start draining her own, making her tire easily. Still, she hadn’t thought that a body used to working all day at the ranch—milking cows, making cheese—would fall apart this quickly just because she was pregnant. She frowned and blinked with a rising anxiety, wondering how she would survive the upcoming physical test if her body was this fragile. Lethia pouted, glancing down at her hand clutching a paper bag, the one holding the marble cake Renar had bought for her. Something uneasy floated in her chest as she stared at the cake box. She remembered using her heightened hearing earlier to pick out Renar’s voice... and she heard the teasing tone from the shop owner, asking if he was buying the marble cake for his girlfriend’s good luck. She should’ve been happy that someone like Renar cared so much for her... But what if he knew that everything she did with him, she would also do with Caelum? Lethia gritted her teeth, unable to shake off the guilt gnawing at her gut. When she tilted her head up, her eyes caught Renar’s car already parked in front of her, the door swinging open automatically. Lethia quickly got inside and spotted her shopping bags, carried earlier by Renar, on the back. She pouted as she adjusted her seat, the memory of their earlier bickering over who should pay for her clothes still lingering. She shot him a sulky glare. "Anyway, I’ll pay for dinner later, alright! I don’t like—" "You don’t like to have debts." Renar cut off her tantrum without blinking. "I didn’t pay for your clothes for you. I did it for me. I need to maintain my image, can’t let the shop manager gawk at me like some useless bastard just standing there while you’re paying." ’Too prideful!’ After buying the cake earlier, Renar had rushed back into the clothing store and whispered to the cashier, ordering them to swipe anything Lethia picked out onto his card. Lethia clenched her fists, groaning inside because she didn’t want to tell Renar about her hearing ability. "And what about this cake? We’re supposed to eat dinner, aren’t we? Why the hell did you buy this cake then?" Lethia snapped, shooting him a searing glare. Renar fell silent for a beat, chewing on the corner of his mouth, looking like he was struggling to come up with an excuse. Lethia smirked inwardly, feeling victorious, seeing him squirm for once instead of playing the cold image game. "That’s... the salesman offered it... and, uh, I felt bad for him, so I just bought it," he muttered. "Pfftt..." Lethia immediately averted her gaze, her shoulders trembling slightly as she fought to keep her laughter from escaping. She found him adorable for lying like that. But she found herself even funnier, knowing she could never truly hold back whenever she caught someone lying to her. Still, for the sake of saving Renar’s pride, she decided to restrain herself this time. After driving for thirty minutes, they finally arrived at the restaurant Lethia had been dying to visit. A few days ago, she had stumbled upon a short video on social media of a streamer eating roast duck, and the sight had been haunting her ever since. "So this is the restaurant that made your baby growl?" Renar asked while glancing around, searching for an empty table. "Hmm..." Lethia nodded, her eyes drooling at the massive hologram screen ahead, flashing a slideshow of various duck dishes drowned in different sauces. Renar’s gaze landed on an empty table near the indoor artificial garden. Without a word, he gently grabbed Lethia’s wrist, guiding her like a hypnotized kitten—her eyes still locked onto the roasted ducks, carried swiftly by servers and laid out across customers’ tables. Renar smirked to himself, never imagining he’d one day end up babysitting a pregnant woman in the middle of a craving spree. After they finished ordering through the sliding panel embedded in their table, Lethia tapped her fingers idly, watching Renar, who was busy fiddling with his phone. "If you’re that busy, why did you even say you could accompany me shopping?" she huffed. Renar frowned briefly, then chuckled, "Of course I’m busy. But can’t a busy man still accompany a pregnant woman he likes when she asks for it?" Lethia cleared her throat in a very much not-hoarse manner. "You’re getting way too comfortable around me nowadays. Does my scent not trigger you anymore? I guess that omega fragrance did its job, huh?" "I increased the dose of my Unbonding pill, and..." He glanced at her cautiously, "Looks like your scent is just too strong when your body’s in heat." Lethia’s gaze flickered; she could feel the heat rushing to her cheeks. "Doctor Rue said I’m in heat because of the baby’s energy. It’s beyond my control." "Hm... just like all omegas in heat, it’s a natural thing for them. So yeah, in your case, it’s natural too. No need to be ashamed." "I’m not. It’s an honor to be different," Lethia said firmly, praying her face wouldn’t turn into a boiled lobster. No matter how much Renar’s words jabbed at her pride, she would swallow it whole and maintain her composure. A faint smile curled on Renar’s lips as he remained focused on his phone screen, making Lethia sigh, frustrated that she couldn’t read what the hell was running through his mind. Didn’t the development of Unbonding Pills happen because you guys wanted to deny fate?" Renar froze, his sharp gaze slicing across the table. He drew a long, slow breath. "I regret telling you that out of emotion. But since you’re too clever to forget anything, seems like I need to clear that off." He put his phone down on the table and scanned their surroundings, checking if anyone might be close enough to eavesdrop. He rested both arms on the table and leaned in closer. "What do you think you know about Lycans?" he asked, his tone low and serious.
