Chapter 100: Between Them Moments later, Renar suddenly turned around and slid his arm beneath Lethia’s head like a pillow as he pulled her into his embrace. The closeness of their faces made Lethia gasp and hold her breath. She tried to pull away, but Renar only held her tighter, until her face was buried in the crook of his neck. "Just like this... Let’s stay just like this. I think I can get better just like this," Renar whimpered. Lethia couldn’t say no. She just couldn’t. Because when she felt his body, it wasn’t as burning hot as earlier when she first checked his fever. She wondered if Renar really ended up like this because of his fox bead. She shut her eyes and let herself sink into his warmth. "What the hell are you two doing in this broad daylight?" A man’s angry voice cut through the air, making both Lethia and Renar turn their heads to find Caelum glaring at them with fiery eyes. Lethia moved, about to get up, only for Renar’s arm to stop her, holding her in place like he didn’t give a damn about Caelum’s furious stare. Now, it was Renar who back-hugged her from behind. "Renar... let me go," Lethia tried to pry his arms from her waist. "You said you would hug me. My fever hasn’t gone down completely yet." He buried his face even deeper into her soft, fluffy hair. Her baby wasn’t even born yet, but here she was, babysitting a full-grown one. And another big baby, standing by the bedroom door, suddenly dropped to his knees. "I came here to check if Renar was in pain or not, because my body felt it. But..." Caelum chuckled, lowering his gaze. "Caelum, whatever you’re thinking right now, don’t believe it! I was just hugging him to bring his fever down," Lethia explained, hoping to stop Caelum from jumping to conclusions. In moments like this, she really wished Whisney would take over her body and be heartless for once, because Lethia was stuck feeling guilty toward both of them. She’d realized lately that she used her empathy much more than usual. "Renar!! Please let me go! I’m not going anywhere, but this position is seriously awkward, don’t you think? And Caelum... something’s wrong with him too. Look!" Lethia tapped Renar’s hands, still locked tight around her waist, urging him to look at Caelum, who stayed silent, head bowed, still kneeling at the door. "Let him be. Let him feel what I felt when I saw you with him," Renar murmured, tightening his grip on her even more. Lethia rolled her eyes, trying to figure out how to escape Renar and his stubborn arse. Then, with a reckless spark, she reached out and tried to tickle his waist. Nothing. The big boy didn’t flinch. ’Is his skin made of cowhide? not sensitive at all,’ she cursed internally. But then—she gasped. Her brain lit up with a wicked idea, one she wasn’t even sure she should do, but what choice did she have? Especially when Caelum had now collapsed facedown on the floor. Closing her eyes, biting her lower lip, she slid her left hand to the side. Guided by pure instinct, she carefully—not too hard—squeezed Renar’s balls. Renar flinched instantly. The moment his grip slackened, she yanked herself free and turned to see his face. His mouth agape, eyes wincing, not a single sound coming out like he was swallowing the pain. She figured—yeah, that did the trick. She patted Renar’s arm while sliding off the bed. "You’ll be fine, you’ll be fine..." Lethia rushed over to Caelum, who was lying dramatically facedown on the floor. "Caelum... please, not you too. Hey... are you okay?" She shook his body gently, trying to get a response. Lethia flipped him onto his back, only to find his eyes blank and distant. "Cael—" "When I said it didn’t matter what happened between you two, I lied," he said, voice flat. "I knew you first. I should’ve found you first." To Lethia, it sounded like he was about to recite a melancholic love poem. She grabbed his hand and helped him sit up, pressing her palm to his forehead. There was a slight fever—but not nearly as hot as Renar’s earlier. "You can stand, right? Please get up and sit on the bed." But Caelum yanked her wrist, pulling her off balance until she landed right in his lap. "Do you know how many women would kill to be in your position right now?" Lethia flustered, her cheeks warming a bit, but she was too annoyed to entertain it. She wasn’t in the mood to play. "Must be so many. But do you think I care?" she shot back. "Now stop being like this and just get up." She pushed herself off his lap. "I need to talk to both of you. Seriously." Caelum stayed where he was, frowning at her like a sulky child who just got told no. Lethia let out a long sigh. "Please..." She softened her tone, hoping it would get through his pride. Was it because they grew up without mothers? Somehow, the thought brought back a memory. How spoiled she used to be around Teressa whenever things didn’t go her way. Finally, Caelum dragged himself up and shuffled to the bed, where Renar was already seated, massaging his thigh like the pain still lingered. But Lethia was sure that whatever pressure she’d applied earlier wasn’t going to ruin his future. Once Caelum and Renar were seated on the bed, Lethia paced back and forth in front of them like a mother about to scold her unruly sons. "What do you want to talk about?" Renar’s hoarse voice broke the silence. Lethia clenched her fists. "Listen, I..." she hesitated, "I enjoyed our foreplay. And I’ll admit, I played with both of you. I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can take responsibility for your feelings. Can’t we just consider it a fleeting lust?" She exhaled sharply. "It wasn’t even real sex, and none of us marked each other yet either." "You’re saying we shouldn’t see each other again?" Caelum yelped, voice rising with disbelief. "What if the test shows we’re fated mates?" Renar asked, eyes narrowing.
