"I need to finish something in the research lab." From the way he moved, the way his gaze avoided hers like poison, she could feel it; he didn’t want to be anywhere near her tonight. She caught the tight pull of his brow. The stiff line of his jaw clenched so hard it looked like he was holding back pure rage and irritation. Well... maybe Lethia did deserve that. "Be careful then." She stepped out of the car, the door having swung open by itself for a while. She wanted to say it—that he didn’t have to avoid her like this. But she held it back. Saying it would’ve made it more awkward and felt pointless. Dragging her feet, she headed toward Renar’s private penthouse lift and tapped the access card. The second she stepped inside, the cold air wrapped around her like steel, made her shivered. Her mind flicked back to what Renar had told her about Lycans—how they needed fated mates. How they could even create them. He hadn’t explained it clearly. When she asked, all he said was that he’d tell her everything once her test results came out. But briefly, he had admitted one thing—the image of Lycans being against the idea of fated mates wasn’t entirely true. They quietly craved for it. The elevator doors slid open, and Lethia was greeted by the butler robot, Muffy, his golf-ball-sized eyes blinking at her. "Welcome home, Miss. You’ve arrived quite late." ’Home?’ It had been a while since she’d heard that word. "Yeah, time flies fast for sure. It’s already past ten." She tossed her bag on the couch and twisted her body left and right, trying to stretch out the stiffness that had taken over her muscles. The foreplay she had with Caelum earlier had definitely left her worn out and aching. When Tuffy, the robot chef, handed her a glass of orange juice, Lethia took it with a relieved smile. Then her gaze caught it. The white wall separating the dining room from the living area had cracked, and thin, veiny lines trailing up to the ceiling. Her jaw dropped. Worry washed over her. "Muffy, what happened here?" Lethia stepped closer to the cracked wall. "Was there an earthquake or something?" But as she looked more carefully. With squinted eyes, she noticed a faint red smear between the fractured lines. ’Is this blood?’ she asked inwardly. "No, Miss. That crack appeared after Master punched the wall when I finally managed to trace the CCTV from Lykon Haven, which showed you being carried by a hooded man wearing a mask, into Caelum’s car," Muffy replied matter-of-factly. He then continued explaining how Renar had gone frantic with rage, ordering Muffy to track Lethia’s whereabouts when her phone went unanswered, and the CCTV footage only captured her leaving the written test room. "Several parts of the footage were missing or appeared to be skipped. But Lykon Haven’s security team couldn’t restore the corrupted data quickly.
