Chapter 60: Pheromone Bonding The warm gold of sunlight streamed in through the penthouse windows, trailing behind Muffy as he ran a flying vacuum cleaner over the curtains, up to the very top near the ceiling. "Muffy, when’s the repairer coming?" Renar asked, seated on the couch while sipping his coffee, eyeing the crack on the wall that was an eyesore to his view. "We had an appointment around eleven, Master. It should be done before sunset." "Good then. I don’t want some stranger still here when we come home later. And Tuffy, we’re eating dinner outside." Renar didn’t lift his gaze from the tablet screen as both robots processed his commands, already knowing what needed to be done. His eyes flicked back to the cracked wall, and he could still feel the ache from punching it at full force. Not the physical ache, that was just a fleeting sting, and did nothing to his fast-healing body. It was when he watched the restored CCTV footage that had mysteriously gone. That was when the blood in his veins surged, his breathing turned ragged, and instinct took over. He lashed out at the wall in pure rage. Seeing Caelum carry Lethia’s unconscious body had sent him mad. Not because he believed Caelum might’ve done something inappropriate—no, he knew Caelum wasn’t that depraved. Renar had already predicted Lethia would faint more often the moment he learned she was a wolfless pregnant woman with a strong energy of fetus. So, in theory, he should be thankful someone found and helped her during a moment like that. But why the fuck did it have to be Caelum? Why could Caelum smell her scent too? Why did it have to be him getting obsessed over someone Renar cared about... again? Renar let out a long breath in frustration when his eyes caught Lethia walking out from the hallway, giggling as she stared at her phone. Instantly, the frown on his face melted away, replaced by a faint smile curling at the corner of his lips. For the past two weeks, they’d been living together, and Lethia had rarely smiled. But looking at her giggling like that, it warmed his chest like taking a hot bath on a freezing morning. ’Is this feeling growing deeper? Why does the air feel fresher when she’s around?’ Renar let the thought shimmer in his mind, neither accepting nor denying it. "Why are you giggling first thing in the morning?" he asked. "I just got the notification that I passed the writing test," she said, still drawn to her phone. "You must be very happy then, all your hard work paid off." Lethia turned to him with a sudden cold stare. "That’s not why I was giggling, though." "Then?" Renar raised an eyebrow, curiosity flashing across his face. Lethia quickened her steps toward him and sat down beside him, showing him her phone eagerly. "This! I just made allies—or, well, they call themselves ’Devotees.’" Her smile widened. "All because I told them they’d absolutely pass the writing test—and now they’re basically swearing loyalty to me." Renar chuckled. "So you’re all happy this morning, not because you passed, but because now you’ve got friends?" Her smile faded, and she threw him a sharp glare. "First, of course, I passed the writing test; it wasn’t even that hard. And second, we’ve only known each other for a few days. So allies is the right term for them." Lethia grinned inwardly, silently thanking Whisney for her help. And she decided to hide the other reason why they wanted to become loyal to her—the promise of getting under Renar or Caelum’s party once they became Executive Aide. Renar let out an amused laugh. "Just be careful of how you use them." The wide grin Lethia flashed at her phone made Renar reach over and gently pinch her cheek. "C’mon, we can’t be late for your appointment." Lethia blinked, stunned, watching as Renar stood up and walked toward the elevator. Her hand instinctively rubbed the cheek he just pinched, now growing redder with embarrassment. Flustered, she trailed after him as they headed to Terenian Hospital. Upon arrival, Lethia refused to walk with Renar into the OB-GYN clinic. She had no idea when someone might approach her claiming to be a fan from that stiletto video. Worse, if they saw her with Renar—and later found out she worked as his Executive Aide—Lethia feared it would stir up gossip she didn’t want to deal with. The waiting area corridor was packed with pregnant women, some accompanied by their husbands. Lethia felt awkward, unsure where to sit without drawing attention to herself. Her eyes had been locked on the hologram display board, waiting for her number—twenty-three—to flash. Just two more patients left, and then she could finally be free from this stifling boredom, from the anxious twitch of her fingers that had been fidgeting so hard, she feared her nails might leave marks behind. Lethia sighed in relief when her number finally lit up on the panel, and she immediately stepped into the doctor’s office. After a series of examinations, she sat quietly, watching the doctor—who looked shockingly young and ridiculously pretty—with anxious eyes, waiting for the results. "You’re seven weeks pregnant, Miss Lethia. And... your baby looks incredibly strong and healthy. Honestly, it’s amazing it survived that stabbing." The doctor, a woman named Rue, read through the examination chart on her tablet. It looked like her medical records from the assassination attempt were shown there too. The accident that Lethia had almost forgotten, with so much happening after that. "Yeah... my father’s good deeds are finally bearing fruit," Lethia replied flatly. Rue glanced up from behind her sunglasses and looked Lethia over from head to toe, making Lethia squirm slightly in her seat. "Your sudden fainting during heat is completely normal for someone wolfless. Your metabolism can’t handle the pup’s energy in heat. And it’s only going to get stronger from now on. I’ll prescribe something for it." "Will the medicine be safe for the baby?" Lethia’s brow furrowed deeper, the concern was obvious in her voice. Doctor Rue smirked. "Generally, it’s safe. But there’s another option that works even better—especially once your pregnancy gets closer to its due." "What is it?" "As your doctor, I’m supposed to give you the boring, long medical explanation," Rue said, one brow raised, clearly toying with Lethia’s patience. "But... as a woman myself, I could offer you a friendly, more applicable answer. Which one do you want?" "Just give me a blunt answer that’s easy to digest, please..." Lethia muttered. "Pheromone bonding with the father," Rue said, her smirk curving into a full-blown, wicked smile. "Through good sex. And knotting."
