Chapter 105: The Meeting Caelum and Renar locked eyes, sharp and unflinching, as if both were already brawling without ever lifting a finger. "I do hope it ends with just a glare-off and not blood decorating this room," Callista muttered, trying to break the ice-cold tension in the air. "I’m not as childish as he is," Renar scoffed, cutting sharply. "At least I did something instead of just all talk," Caelum shot back. "And left someone else to clean up your mess?" "That someone sure as hell ain’t you though!" "Oh, for the hell’s sake, can’t you two just quit it already? Renar, I’ve scolded him enough, you can back off now. It’s not like we can rewind time and undo what he’s done, right?" Callista stepped in, exasperated, trying to douse the flames flaring between the two men who clearly lost their minds over the same woman. She was drained enough handling the mess from Caelum’s post—the last thing she needed was full-blown domestic violence between the wild Tuffin boys. It crushed her chest, that pressure of being the eldest daughter, when she wasn’t even part of the Tuffin family to begin with. "Scolding him isn’t nearly enough!" That velvet bass voice silenced the room. Every head turned toward Zeran, who stormed in with heavy, firm strides like thunder had just walked through the door. But what he did next made everyone gasp. Zeran clutched Caelum’s collar in one sharp motion, and with the other hand, he threw a strong swinging punch that everyone was sure would crash straight into Caelum’s face. Wham! "Zeran, no!" Callista shouted, eyes wide in panic, terrified he would leave bruises on Caelum’s perfectly handsome face. But to everyone’s shock, the punch slammed into the sofa, landing just past the side of Caelum’s face. Caelum had instinctively shut his eyes the moment Zeran grabbed him, but when no pain came, he slowly blinked them open, only to find Zeran’s icy blue stare boring into him, sharp and cold with lethal intent that made his skin crawl. "Behave. Or next time, that punch lands where it fucking should," Zeran’s clipped voice stabbed straight into his ear like an arrow.. Then he let go and dropped onto the sofa beside him, tension still humming in the air. "Fuck," Caelum muttered under his breath, trying to calm his hammering heart. "You are all behaving like bloody kids over a woman. How special must this woman be?" That hoarse but commanding voice rolled through the room like thunder, snapping everyone’s attention to the man stepping in—Damian Tuffin. And just like that, they all stood, reflexively straightening like soldiers caught off guard. The weight of his presence made them behave. As soon as Damian sat down, Renar stepped forward and presented Lethia’s energy graph—data he’d received from the lab a few days earlier. The room shifted into something heavier. Everyone’s face sobered. "Hmm..." Damian cleared his throat, studying the results. "This energy pattern... it was nearly identical to your mothers’ when they carried the three of you." "It’s more massive than that," Renar clarified. "And judging by the chart, the baby must be a lycan. We’ve no idea what kind of power it’s going to carry." "But she’s not a Lycan. She’s wolfless," Callista pointed out, frowning. "Would the curse apply to her too?" "But the curse is... anyone who gives birth to a Lycan will die," Renar stated firmly, his breath sharp, like he was choking on his hatred for it. The air in the room turned heavy, silence thick with the weight of his words. "Well, we’ve been carrying curses one after another because the Moon Goddess despises Lycans so much. From screwing with our sense of smell so we couldn’t even detect our fated mates, to ensuring every woman who births a Lycan dies during labour," Damian’s low chuckle cut through the tension, bitter and dry. "All of it, forced upon us, to drive us into extinction." Everyone fell silent, Damian’s words hanging heavy in the air like the grim thought of their own extinction sinking deep into their bones. "Didn’t you say she should be weak? But instead, she’s still strong, physically at least. Isn’t that strange? What if she’s immune to the curse?" Callista asked while sipping her tea, curiosity lining her voice. "But we can’t gamble her life just to find out if she’ll survive giving birth, can we?" Caelum added, his tone sharp, only to be met with a shrug from Callista. "How’s the fate mate test result?" Damian asked. Renar slowly shook his head. "The result came back abstract. It gave an invalid reading for chromosomal compatibility. It should’ve been a simple output—match or unmatch. Not invalid." "And the root of the problem’s been sitting there silent, acting like everything’s fucking fine," Caelum didn’t hold back as he blatantly threw shade at Zeran. "Zeran..." Damian called his name calmly, "You must know something, don’t you? How did this whole mess even start?" His tone was wise, but his gaze was searching. The tension crackled as every eye locked onto Zeran. He could feel their pressure. "First of all, it’s already happened. Even if I knew how it started, I wouldn’t tell any of you," Zeran said coldly. "Second, what do you think we should do, Renar?" Renar raised a brow, hesitation flickering in his eyes before he said, "It’s better to let the baby go, for her safety." "Kill the baby, save the mother?" The question came out dripping in disgust. Renar only gave a lifeless nod. "I won’t allow that," Zeran snapped. "We’ve tried every damn test, every fucking procedure to stop the Lycans from going extinct. We even developed artificial wombs just to place the embryo, hoping the mother wouldn’t die during childbirth—and still, we failed. This is the first time our sperm actually worked with IVF, and more importantly, the baby is strong. Healthy. Aren’t you the least bit curious about what kind of child that might be?" His voice grew hard as he laid it all out. "So you’re saying it’s fine if she dies for it?" Renar shot back, locking eyes with Zeran in a cold, intense stare. Zeran let out a low chuckle. "You’re the scientist. Aren’t you supposed to keep your emotions out of this?" "Crazy bastard," Caelum muttered, not bothering to hide his distaste. Zeran rose from his seat, his presence dominating the room in an instant. "Do you all think she’ll let you kill her baby? She’s under my protection now. Her safety is mine to bear. And I forbid any of you to even mention this shit to her." He ended his words with a tone sharp enough to cut before striding out of the room, leaving the tension crackling behind him.
