Chapter 16 - She-Wolfless Lethia stiffened. 'What the hell was that?' She wanted to kick Lana, sure—but she was certain that the kick voice hadn't come from her own mind. Confusion still clouded her mind as her hand moved on its own, trembling as it clenched and unclenched. The same damn feeling. Just like before—when she lost control during that kiss. Then, Lethia's gaze darkened. Her pupils dilated, swallowing the light, as if something had snatched her awareness away. Before she could even question it, her body moved. Lethia snatched the flower vase from the cabinet near the window and hurled it at the CCTV camera in the ceiling's corner. CRASHH! The sharp shatter echoed through the room—Lana's startled scream followed a second later. "What ARE you DOING?! Are you crazy?!" Lana shrieked, hands flying to her head as if she'd been the target. Lethia smirked. "Kneel, you said?" Smack! Her foot shot out—slamming into Lana's bad knee with pinpoint accuracy. "Aarrgghh..." The scream that tore from Lana's throat was deafening. She collapsed, her injured knee giving out instantly. 'What the hell just happened? Why did I kick her? No—how the hell did my foot even move?!' Lethia's mind reeled, panic clawing at her skull. But her body wasn't hers anymore. Her foot pressed down—hard—onto Lana's twisted, trembling knee. "STOP IT! You CRAZY BITCH! STOP!!" Lana howled, desperately pushing at Lethia's leg—but to her surprise, she couldn't budge it. Lethia only scoffed, her voice dripping with something sickeningly amused. "Tch, the crazy bitch who should be kneeling is you. Ha ha ha." Lethia heard the words that left her mouth and the sharp, clear laughter that followed—despite never intending to laugh. And no matter how much she willed her foot to move, to pull away from Lana's knee, it wouldn't. And yet, it remained, pressing down without mercy. She felt like she had superhuman strength, seeing how Lana couldn't even push her foot away. A flicker of satisfaction curled in her chest—power like this was exhilarating. And yet, she could also imagine the sickening pain radiating from Lana's crushed knee. 'What the hell is going on? Ugh... I need to move. Wait—what if someone comes? Oh, gosshh...' Lethia's mind screamed into the void. "Does it hurt?" Lethia murmured venomously, a smirk tugging at her lips. "Oh, such a fragile little thing." "Lethia, le–let go... you fucking bitch. Do you think you'll get away with this? Aaarrgghh..." Lana whimpered, still shoving at Lethia's leg with trembling hands, her eyes reddening as she fought the pain. "Tsk, tsk, tsk... Still running that filthy mouth, huh? Isn't this pain enough for you?" Lethia pressed down harder, grinding her heel into Lana's knee. Another agonized scream tore from Lana's throat. "Lethia... Plea—" Her voice hitched—caught between her ragged breaths and the sheer unwillingness to plead. And yet, she couldn't lift Lethia's foot. A shudder of confusion ran through her. How? How could a wolfless like Lethia have this kind of strength? "What? You want to beg?" Lethia's voice dipped into something soft, sickly sweet with mockery. "Go on, then. Beg." 'No way. No way in hell would I ever talk in a cringy, soft, melodic voice like that!' The real Lethia's mind seethed in frustration. 'But what do I do? Arrghh... should I pray? But how?' "You... you'll regret this, you wench. Argh—!" "Huuu... ding-dong-deng, wrong answer." Lethia ground her heel in deeper, twisting it with a smug smile. "Aaarrghh—No... no... AARRGGHH! STOP IT!! Pleaaseee—No... STOP—!!" 'Am I really this heartless? Dear Moon Goddess, is this the power you granted me for my suffering?' ["No, dear. The Moon Goddess abandoned you long ago, left you to rot in this wretched world."] 'What—wait, that voice... Fuck, who are you? Where are you? No—give me my body back! Fuck off! GO! JUST LET ME GO—!' A sharp, piercing ring exploded in Lethia's ears, shattering through her nerves. The pain was unbearable, deafening. Her foot jolted back from Lana's knee as she stumbled, squeezing her eyes shut. A splitting ache seared through her skull, forcing her hands up to clutch her head. She hunched over, gasping for breath. And the second she opened her eyes—her pupils shrank back to normal, her gaze clearing. The way she could move her body at will proved that she was back. Her gaze snapped to Lana, who was struggling to stand—but failing. Lethia took a step closer, only to be met with a look of pure horror in Lana's eyes. The chaos, the loss of control—it rattled Lethia just as much. She exhaled sharply, noticing her phone lying on the ground beside Lana's fallen bag. Without a word, she picked it up. "You should call someone to help you." Her voice was steady as she abandoned the thought of offering Lana a hand. "Crazy bitch!" "I know. I admit that. So, let's talk again when I've cleared my head and feel a little less crazy." Lethia strode toward the door, pausing at the threshold before turning back to Lana. "Tell me... was it you? What happened to my father and the attempt to kill me that night, was that your doing too?" Lana's face stiffened, her breath coming in sharp, uneven gasps. She fought to steady herself before answering. "I am an Ashenhold she-wolf. Violence is not part of our culture. Watch your mouth." Lethia smirked. "Really? Well, I don't believe you anyway. But, if you are involved, you'd better hide it well, so I never find out. Because if I do, it won't just be your knee. I'll make sure to break every single bone in your body, little by little, then feed them to the stray dogs in the woods. I am my own she-wolfless, after all." She turned and walked out, her pace quickening as she reached the stairs, desperate for air. Her chest burned—tight, suffocating. She clutched at it and panting. By the time she reached the rooftop, her legs gave out. She collapsed. Weakness seeped back into her limbs, the pain in her skull still blinding. She gasped for air, lungs straining, as if she couldn't take in enough—her grip tightening over her burning chest. Lethia tried to stand, but her legs buckled beneath her. Her arms and legs trembled as she fought to push herself upright, only to collapse again. She kept trying—again and again—cold sweat dripping down her skin, her vision blurring with unshed tears. But no matter how much she struggled, she failed. She gave up. Lying flat on the rooftop, she stared up at the sky—blindingly bright, painfully clear. The scorching sun bore down on her, its heat biting into her skin like sharp little pinches from clawed fingers. She closed her eyes, willing her mind to go silent—to just exist for a moment.
