You’re smart enough, darling." Lethia squinted, rubbing the back of her neck as she tilted her head side to side to stretch. "Yeah, I hope so too... because this sore body better be worth it." Callista looked at her with a faint trace of worry. "The real problem is your stamina... once you hit the third phase, the physical test." "Like I said, you don’t—" "I’m not worried about you." She cut her off sharply, making Lethia freeze. "But you should be. For yourself. And... your baby." Callista stepped into the elevator, holding the door open as she kept her eyes on Lethia. As they walked down the corridor, Lethia’s breath came ragged, like she’d just finished a cardio workout. She couldn’t believe she’d managed to bluff that hard. First, the whole making friends thing? Definitely not her daily routine. Second, saying with full confidence that both of them would pass the writing test? That was pure impulse. And she just prayed they’d all pass without needing any of that nepotistic rescue. Not long after she entered the testing room, the writing test began. Lethia breezed through the first and second parts with ease—the study guides Callista had given her aligned perfectly with what showed up. Nailed it. The problem came in the third section. This one hit special knowledge—Ashenhold’s history and geography. It wasn’t that Lethia was too lazy to memorize things. But growing up in the countryside, she’d never imagined herself living in Ashenhold, let alone needing to know it down to the damn rivers and founding dates. And with the ridiculously short study time? She’d already thrown in the towel on those stacks of printouts Callista had shoved her way. But this was Lethia. Giving up wasn’t part of the equation. She dragged Whisney into her mess. The lewd fox was a walking history archive, and Lethia knew well her pride couldn’t accept nepo-help from Callista. Fair play?
