Chapter 15 - Kick Her! Lana's cold voice made Lethia felt every nerve in her body lock into high alert. That feeling—it was the feeling of standing before a predator, knowing full well she had no choice but to move forward because the only exit lay beyond it. "Lana, th—that's because we... we're cousins." "Second cousins," Lana corrected with a sneer. "Our fathers were cousins. And yet, when we were on the brink of bankruptcy three years ago—your father didn't lift a damn finger to help. So tell me, Lethia, why should I help you now?" "La—Lana... why are you acting like this?" "You always think you're so smart. That you could outsmart everyone, don't you? But look at yourself now. Where are you now, Lethia?" Lethia had always admired Lana. With her blonde hair and soft lilac eyes, she looked like a fae plucked straight from a storybook. But now, those once gentle, mesmerizing eyes had sharpened into jagged shards of amethyst—ones that could slit her throat without a second thought. Her fingers curled into the hospital blanket, her heartbeat hammering against her ribs. A sick, twisting nausea crept into her stomach—one she knew too well. When Lethia asked why Lana was bringing up their fathers, she already knew where this conversation was headed—those damn family revenge plots that conservative countryside packs never shut up about. She watched as Lana smiled out the window like a champion fresh off a long, exhausting tournament. Countless possibilities raced through her mind. Lethia connected the dots between Lana's words and the string of events that had shattered her life since that dreadful inauguration night. Lethia wasn't stupid. Well, maybe she looked like an idiot right now, but she wasn't stupid enough to miss the fact that the sheep had no way out from the wolf. Unfortunately, she refused to become a sheep even though she was wolfless. "Why? Because he needed to manipulate me, take everything I own, and hand it over to you? And what's next? Are you two screwing behind my back? Or—are you his real fated mate?" Lana's smile faded. Her lips twitched, her sharp gaze snapping to Lethia. And in that fleeting moment, a pang struck Lethia's chest—her gut screaming that something was going terribly wrong. Then, she laughed. "Oh, fucking hell—did I actually guess it right? Look at you startled like that. Really, Lana?" "You're so arrogant," Lana scoffed. "Laughing at your own stupidity like that after losing so badly." 'She didn't even try to deny it.' Lethia's mind reeled. Lethia chuckled. "So, do you think you've won? How does that feel?" Lana's expression hardened. "Are you seriously this dumb? Don't you—" "Oh, my bad. Let me rephrase—how does it feel to have a delusional victory?" "What are—" "I don't need to hear your cliché, pathetic excuses to know why you did what you did. But if you think stabbing me in the back and stealing everything from me makes me the loser... well, then, you must be completely out of your fucking mind." "Aren't you the one drowning in delusion right now? I won this game." "Your game. I haven't even played mine yet." Lethia chuckled. "A victory can only be justified when all the players start on equal ground." She scoffed. "Now I see why my father despised those lackeys from the capital. Even in the countryside, we settle things within a pack with fairness." "Fairness?" Lana sneered. "Do you think there's fairness in the Obsidian Pack?" "No." Lethia paused. "That pack is rotten to its core. So honestly? I'm grateful for getting kicked out." Her tone was flat, steady, absolute. Lethia's blunt response made Lana frown in confusion. "Your twisted mind is exactly why your life has fallen into this pit of desperation." Lethia lowered her head, letting out a small, breathy chuckle. "Is that so? I won't deny my mind is twisted sometimes. But, that's not why I'm in this miserable state." She lifted her gaze, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes. "This—this is because of cowards who wouldn't stand a chance if they faced me head-on." Lana burst into laughter—poisonous, mocking, dripping with scorn. Lethia felt her blood boil. Her stomach twisted violently, sending sharp pulses of pain through her stab wound. She knew she had no way out of this. Not yet. But her pride refused to let her lose in a battle this unfair. "So, what will you do now? All your assets have already been transferred to Varrel. And thanks to your coma, your divorce was finalized too. Ah, and since you committed adultery and the child in your womb isn't his, the law gives him the right to decide whether you get alimony or not." Lana tilted her head mockingly. "Lethia... you're done for. But maybe—if you kneel before me and beg, I might show you a sliver of mercy." The way her face twisted, stretching into a sickening grin, peeling away like a snake shedding its skin, made Lethia's stomach churn. She threw the blanket off and swung her legs over the edge of the hospital bed. The moment her feet hit the cold floor, a wave of dizziness washed over her. Strange.
