Vacuse saw reddish liquid cut through the air towards him, and he twisted to the side as the whip-like thing passed through where he was, slicing the ground roughly. Lyra and Harkon drew their weapons, moving towards him as they faced the enemy together. A woman stood there. She wore a red robe that reminded Vacuse of solid blood. She smiled at them. "Where are you lovely running to?" Vacuse realized then. He had miscalculated so much that he didn’t even know where to start from. He had relied on the past, that the assassins tonight would only target Lord Ragna. But he was wrong. So wrong. He was the target. He should have known. His actions had been changing the future so much. Already he was an heir, something that didn’t happen in his past life. Why wouldn’t his enemies also change their strategy? The oppressive aura that was coming from the woman filled the area around them with a red taint. She raised her hand, a hand that looked as if it had been stripped of flesh, leaving only the muscles behind. Vacuse’s eyes narrowed. Just what type of pathway was she using? "Who are you!" Vacuse demanded. At the same time, his eyes flickered around the room for a possible escape method, but the chaos in the room was simply too much that he couldn’t even tell who was fighting who. The Dragon Guards were engaging the intruders, but more intruders seemed to have joined the initial. What the hell is going on? The intruders didn’t want those outside to know what was going on. There were different attendants waiting outside. Vacuse gritted his teeth. Right. There must still be numerous Dragon Guards waiting in the castle. They could be summoned, and with Zorathian here, it shouldn’t take long. "S ranked! There’s an S ranked here!" The scream cut through the air before it was brutally cut off. But the speaker didn’t need to shout. S ranks had a way of announcing themselves. Pressure slammed into the room like a hammer to the gut, and almost everyone went to their knees as the vicious aura spread. Their soul space trembled as the force rammed into it, most people coughing blood immediately. Vacuse felt his insides tremble, and he knew he, together with a lot of people, was about to be crushed by the sheer force alone. Pain made his bones shake and his blood shimmer as suppressive aura seemed to blanket everything. But just as the pressure was reaching a breaking point, another pressure fell into the room, and the two clashed, removing the force on the people on the ground. Duke Frexon had joined the fight. Vacuse understood that the Duke held back a lot. And that only left Vacuse stunned. Is the Duke also a target? Or was it all part of his plot? Because at that moment, he was the only suspect that Vacuse had in mind. But even as he was thinking about that, his mind was elsewhere—on the woman that was trying to kill them. His blood was boiling, and his eyes flashed with killing intent. Whoever was behind what was happening would pay. Vacuse didn’t run to the chaos of the room. Instead, he turned towards the door and fled. Lyra and Harkon were right behind him. Immediately they stepped out of the door, it was as if they stepped away from an invisible bubble. Vacuse turned to look at the hall entrance, and his mouth opened wide in surprise. "What the fuck?" Instead of seeing the fight going on through the door, what he saw was guests eating and moving about, drinking easily and laughing. Vacuse felt a chill. An illusion. This wasn’t a hastily made operation. It was well planned. Vacuse hadn’t been the one playing games. He’d been played since. "My Lord, we should get out of here while we can," Harkon said. Lyra nodded in agreement, clutching her sword with tight hands.
